The aim of neoadjuvant treatment in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)is to eliminate micrometastatic disease to facilitate surgical resection.Neoadjuvant chemotherapy(ChT)in localised NSCLC has numerous advantages over other therapeutic modalities and is considered standard treatment in resectable disease.Treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICI)improves long-term survival in advanced disease and has a better toxicity profile than conventional therapies.These immunotherapy agents(anti-PD1/PD-L1),administered with or without ChT,are currently being evaluated in the preoperative setting,with initial results showing better pathological response rates and more long-term benefits.Importantly,these drugs do not appear to increase the rate of severe adverse effects and/or postoperative complications.However,several questions still need to be resolved,including the identification of predictive biomarkers;comparative studies of immunotherapy alone vs combined treatment with ChT and/or radiotherapy;the optimal duration of treatment;the timing of surgery;the need for adjuvant treatment;appropriate radiologic evaluation and mediastinal staging;and the correlation between pathological response and survival outcomes.Here we review the current evidence for immunotherapy from a multidisciplinary perspective and discuss current and future controversies.

Chitosan coatings with distinct innate immune bioactivities differentially stimulate angiogenesis,osteogenesis and chondrogenesis in poly-caprolactone scaffolds with controlled interconnecting pore size

This study tested whether osseous integration into poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL)bioplastic scaffolds with fully-interconnecting 155±8μm pores is enhanced by an adhesive,non-inflammatory 99% degree of deacetylation(DDA)chitosan coating(99-PCL),or further incorporation of pro-inflammatory 83% DDA chitosan microparticles(83-99-PCL)to accelerate angiogenesis.New Zealand White rabbit osteochondral knee defects were press-fit with PCL,99-PCL,83-99-PCL,or allowed to bleed(drill-only).Between day 1 and 6 weeks of repair,drill-only defects repaired by endochondral ossification,with an 8-fold higher bone volume fraction(BVF)versus initial defects,compared to a 2-fold(99-PCL),1.1-fold(PCL),or 0.4-fold(83-99-PCL)change in BVF.Hematoma innate immune cells swarmed to 83-99-PCL,elicited angiogenesis throughout the pores and induced slight bone resorption.PCL and 99-PCL pores were variably filled with cartilage or avascular mesenchyme near the bone plate,or angiogenic mesenchyme into which repairing trabecular bone infiltrated up to 1 mm deep.more repair cartilage covered the 99-PCL scaffold(65%)than PCL(18%)or 83-99-PCL(0%)(pmmatory chitosan coatings promoted cartilage infiltration into and over a bioplastic scaffold,and were compatible with trabecular bone integration.This study also revealed that in vitro osteogenesis assays have limited ability to predict osseous integration into porous scaffolds,because(1)in vivo,woven bone integrates from the leading edge of regenerating trabecular bone and not from mesenchymal cells adhering to scaffold surfaces,and(2)bioactive coatings that attract inflammatory cells induce bone resorption.

Plumage brightness and uropygial gland secretions in barn swallows

The uropygial gland has been hypothesized to play a role in sexual signaling through a "make-up" function derived from the effects of secretions from the gland on the appearanee of the plumage and bare parts of the body. Here we show that plumage brightness of dorsal feathers of individual barn swallows Hirundo rustica was greater in mated than in unmated individuals. In addition, plumage brightness in creased with colony size. Furthermore, plumage bright ness was positively correlated with the amount of wax in the uropygial gland, negatively correlated with time of sampling of uropygial wax (perhaps because more wax is present early in the morning after an entire night of wax production without any preening), and negatively correlated with the number of chewing lice that degrade the plumage. Experimentally preventing barn swallows from access to the uropygial gland reduced plumage brightness, showing a causal link between secretions from the uropygial gland and plumage brightness. These findings provide evidence consistent with a role of uropygial secretions in signaling plumage brightness.

Natural vegetation cover in the landscape and edge effects： differential responses of insect orders in a fragmented forest

Human activities have led to global simplification of ecosystems, among which Neotropical dry forests are some of the most threatened. Habitat loss as well as edge effects may affect insect communities. Here, we analyzed insects sampled with pan traps in 9 landscapes （at 5 scales, in 100-500 m diameter circles） comprising cultivated fields and Chaco Serrano forests, at overall community and taxonomic order level. In total 7043 specimens and 456 species of hexapods were captured, with abundance and richness being directly related to forest cover at 500 m and higher at edges in comparison with forest interior. Community composition also varied with forest cover and edge^interior location. Different responses were detected among the 8 dominant orders. Collembola, Hemiptera, and Orthoptera richness and^or abundance were positively related to forest cover at the larger scale, while Thysanoptera abundance increased with forest cover only at the edge. Hymenoptera abundance and richness were negatively related to forest cover at 100 m. Coleoptera, Diptera, and Hymenoptera were more diverse and abundant at the forest edge. The generally negative influence of forest loss on insect communities could have functional consequences for both natural and cultivated systems, and highlights the relevance of forest conservation. Higher diversity at the edges could result from the simultaneous presence of forest and matrix species, although ＂resource mapping＂ might be involved for orders that were richer and more abundant at edges. Adjacent crops could benefit from forest proximity since natural enemies and pollinators are well represented in the orders showing nositive edge effects.

HLA B27 as Predisposition Factor to Suffer Age Related macular Degeneration

To research whether specific alleles HLA class Ⅰ （HLA-A and HLA-B） and class Ⅱ （HLA-DR） are risk factors for the development of exudative type of Age Related macular Degeneration（ARmD）, HLA antigens are expressed both in normal and affected eyes with ARmD. We designed a prospective case-controlled study. We recruited 75 patients with choroidal neovascuiarization predominantly classic or occult, secondary to ARmD, and treated with photodynamic therapy. Two hundred and fifty patients over 55 years old, without ophthalmologic pathology who went to hospital for an analytical routine check were used as control. The analysis of the data shows a significant difference between two groups. Allele HLA-B27 correlated positively with ARmD （p 〈 0.0113）. However, we didn＇t find alleles negatively associated. Thus HLA-B27 is an allele predisposed to suffer ARmD.

managing liver transplantation during the COVID-19 pandemic:A survey among transplant centers in the Southeast United States

BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease-2019(COVID-19)pandemic has had a profound worldwide impact.Indeed,it has led to a vast decrease in organ transplantation,including liver transplants(LT).There is little data regarding adjustments made by LT centers as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.AIm To assess the experience of LT centers in the United States during the pandemic.mETHODS We performed an observational survey study from may 11,2020 to June 5,2020.We sent out a 13 question survey to 15 LT centers across the southeastern United States.RESULTS Eleven LT centers responded to the survey.We found that(11/11)100%of transplant centers made adjustments because of the COVID-19 pandemic.At least 50%of transplant centers had at least one transplant recipient infected with COVID-19.To adjust,greater than 50%of centers performed fewer LT,100%of patients were tested for COVID-19,and most centers implemented a virtual platform.CONCLUSION The COVID-19 pandemic greatly affected liver transplantation in the southeastern United States.It was evident that a concerted effort was made by LT centers to protect their patients and employees from COVID-19 but also to continue the lifesaving procedure of LT in this sick patient population.Further studies are needed to assess how LT centers around the world managed the pandemic in order to learn strategies to continue life-saving procedures in this patient population.

The application of novel methodologies to the synthesis of nanomaterials is still a challenge in many different technological and scientific fields.New efficient and reproducible synthetic methodologies,that produce fewer residues and reduce the cost of raw materials must be developed.In the present work,we have explored the attractive possibility to apply the cheap iron (Ⅱ) sulphate salt in the reduction process of the K2PtCl4 to produce colloids suspensions.The synthesis took places in water and was assisted by sodium citrate (SC) using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a surfactant.The adjustment of this novelty process allows obtaining well-dispersed and sub-20 nm dendrimer-type platinum nanoparticles (Pt D-NPs).The nano-dendrimers produced have been characterized using dynamic light scattering (DLS),transmission electron microscopy (TEm),high-resolution TEm (HR-TEm),XRD spectroscopy,inductive couple plasma (ICP) analysis,Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy.Interesting conformational results derived from the size and shape will be discussed.Catalytic application of the Pt D-NPs has been explored in the reduction of p-nitrophenol (p-NP) to p-aminophenol (p-AP) in aqueous media at room temperature obtained TOF value of 253 min^-1.Finally,our Pt D-NPs were tested as artificial metalloenzyme showing catechol oxidase activity for oxidation of L-DOPA.

Implicit Continuous User Authentication for mobile Devices based on Deep Reinforcement Learning

The predominant method for smart phone accessing is conﬁned to methods directing the authentication by means of Point-of-Entry that heavily depend on physiological biometrics like,ﬁngerprint or face.Implicit continuous authentication initiating to be loftier to conventional authentication mechanisms by continuously conﬁrming users’identities on continuing basis and mark the instant at which an illegitimate hacker grasps dominance of the session.However,divergent issues remain unaddressed.This research aims to investigate the power of Deep Reinforcement Learning technique to implicit continuous authentication for mobile devices using a method called,Gaussian Weighted Cauchy Kriging-based Continuous Czekanowski’s(GWCK-CC).First,a Gaussian Weighted Non-local mean Filter Preprocessing model is applied for reducing the noise pre-sent in the raw input face images.Cauchy Kriging Regression function is employed to reduce the dimensionality.Finally,Continuous Czekanowski’s Clas-siﬁcation is utilized for proﬁcient classiﬁcation between the genuine user and attacker.By this way,the proposed GWCK-CC method achieves accurate authen-tication with minimum error rate and time.Experimental assessment of the pro-posed GWCK-CC method and existing methods are carried out with different factors by using UmDAA-02 Face Dataset.The results conﬁrm that the proposed GWCK-CC method enhances authentication accuracy,by 9%,reduces the authen-tication time,and error rate by 44%,and 43%as compared to the existing methods.

Predicting scenic beauty of forest stands in Catalonia （North-east Spain）

Relative preferences of 90 images of forest stands, photos and virtual reality images were investigated by the intemet to develop a quantitative model for estimating scenic beauty preferences at the stand level, The relative priority values obtained from the questionnaire of a total of 259 judges were analyzed using regression methods for pairwise comparisons. Two models were developed based on two different groups of stands. Both models indicate that the priority of a forest stand increases with an augment in the number of bushes and trees, and also with the mean diameter of trees. On the other hand, the priority is low with large number of pines and small trees. Stands represented by photos receive better priority values than those represented by virtual reality images. When the background of the judges （gender, country or occupation） was included into the model as additional predictors, no significant improvements are achieved.
