Effects of antibiotics on hydrogen production and gut symbionts in the Formosan subterranean termite Coptotermes formosanus （Isoptera： Rhinotermitidae）

Symbiotic microorganisms that inhabit the gut of Coptotermes formosanus enable this termite to degrade lignocelluloses and further produce hydrogen as an important intermediate to be recycled in its hindgut or as a byproduct to be emitted to the atmosphere. Both symbiotic protists and prokaryotes in the guts of termites demonstrated some different roles with respect to hydrogen production. In this study, the effects of two antibiotics, ampicillin and tetracycline, on hydrogen emission and the gut symbionts of C. formosanus were investigated. Hydrogen emission from termite guts was significantly enhanced when termites fed on wood diets treated with either ampicillin or tetracycline. The greatest H2 emission rates, 2 519 4- 74 and 2 080 ＋ 377 nmol/h/g body weight, were recorded with the treatments of ampicillin and tetracycline, respectively, which showed 6-7 times more H2 production than that of controls. Antibiotic-treated diets negatively affected the prokaryotic communities and reduced their abundances, particularly on those ectosymbionts inhabiting the gut walls or in the gut fluid of C. formosanus, such as spirochetes. However, no signif- icant reductions in the cotmts of gut cellulolytic protists, Pseudotrichonympha grassii and Holomastigotoids hartmanni, were recorded; and with a further observation by confocal laser scanning microscopy, the endosymbionts inhabiting P. grassii generally survived the antibiotic treatments. These results suggest that some prokaryotes may serve as the main hydrogen consumers, while P. grassii, together with its endosymbionts, may function as the main contributors for hydrogen production in the hindgut of C. formosanus.

A multiobjective routing model for multiprotocol Label Switching networks with multiple service types and traffic splitting is presented in this paper. The routing problem is formulated as a multiobjective mixed-integer program, where the considered objectives are the minimization of the bandwidth routing cost and the minimization of the load cost in the network links with a constraint on the maximal splitting of traffic trunks. Two different exact methods are developed for solving the formulated problem, one based on the classical constraint method and another based on a modified constraint method. A very extensive experimental study, with results on network performance measures in various reference test networks and in randomly generated networks, is also presented and its results are discussed.

Despite long-standing interest,the mechanisms driving aquatic macroinvertebrate drift in tropical streams remain poorly ***,the objective of this study was to evaluate which environmental metrics drive macroinvertebrate drift in neotropical sky island *** evaluated whether altitude,the abundance of food resources,and variations in water quality influenced macroinvertebrate drift density,diversity,richness,and functional feeding *** hypothesis was developed to test whether increased altitude,lower food availability(particulate organic matter),and discharge would increase the density,taxonomic richness,and diversity of drifting *** headwater stream sites were sampled in the rainy and dry seasons in the Espinhaço meridional mountain Range(EmmR)of southeast *** were collected using drift nets deployed from 5:00 *** 8:00 *** abundance of food resources was assessed through estimates of coarse(CPOm)and fine(FPOm)particulate organic matter,and primary *** availability was an important explanatory variable for Gathering-Collectors and Scrapers,Altitude was important for Shredders and Predators,and Filtering-Collectors were linked to water discharge,suggesting that functional group drift masses were linked to different ecosystem *** temperature,conductivity,dissolved oxygen,current velocity,FPOm biomass and microbasin elevation range exerted little influence on macroinvertebrate *** taxa composition,this study also found that Baetidae and Leptohyphidae(Ephemeroptera)and Chironomidae and Simuliidae(Diptera)were the most abundant groups drifting.

Survival after pulmonary metastasectomy in colorectal cancer patients:does a history of resected liver metastases worsen the prognosis?A literature review

Objective: To assess the impact of past liver metastases on the survival duration of patients who are undergoing surgery for lung ***: We conducted a review of literature published from 2007 to 2014. The studies were identified by searching Pub med,mEDLINE, and Embase and were supplemented by a manual search of the references listed by the retrieved studies. The following search terms were used: lung metastasectomy, pulmonary metastasectomy, lung metastases, and lung metastasis. We selected retrospective and prospective studies published from 2007 to 2014 on patients with lung metastases from colorectal cancer and were undergoing surgery with curative intent. We excluded reviews, studies that focused on surgical techniques, patients who were treated non-surgically, analyses of specific subgroups of patients, and those that did not report follow-up of the patients undergoing ***: We identified 28 papers that assessed survival after lung metastases, 21 of which were mostly retrospective studies that identified previous liver metastases to explore their impact on patient survival. In more than half of the papers analyzed(63.2%),patients with a history of resected liver metastases had a lower survival rate than those who did not have such a history, and the difference was statistically significant in eight of these studies. However, data were presented differently, and authors reported mean survival time, survival rates, or hazard ***: A history of liver metastases seems to be a negative prognostic factor, but the individual data need to undergo a meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES Elderly patients show a higher incidence of ischemic and bleeding events after percutaneous transluminal coron-ary intervention(PCI).We sought to investigate outcomes in elderly patients treated with antithrombotic strategy guided by bleeding and ischemic risks after revascularization with last generation everolimus-eluting stent(EES).mETHODS Prospective multicenter registry including patients over 75 years revascularized with EES and antithrombotic ther-apy guided by clinical presentation,PCI complexity and PRECISE DAPT ***-primary safety endpoints were:(1)composite of cardiac death,myocardial infarction and stent thrombosis and;(2)bleeding(BARC 2-5).Primary efficacy endpoint was target lesion revascularization.A matched group of patients revascularized with current drug-eluting stents and no such tailored antith-rombotic therapy was used as *** Finally,1064 patients were included in SIERRA-75 cohort,80.8±4.2 years,36.6%women,71%acute coronary syn-dromes(ACS)and 53.6%complex ***-primary safety endpoint of major adverse cardiovascular events was met in 6.2%,co-primary safety endpoint of bleeding in 7.8%and primary efficacy endpoint of TKLR in 1.5%.The multivariable adjusted model showed no significant association of the prescribed short/long dual antiplatelet therapy(DAPT)durations with any endpoint suggesting a well tailored *** stent thrombosis reported in the subgroup with 1-3 months DAPT *** compared to control group,bleeding BARC 2-5 was significantly lower in SIERRA-75 group(7.4%vs.10.2%,P=0.04)as well as the net safety-efficacy endpoint(14.3%vs.18.5%,P=0.02).CONCLUSIONS In elderly population,the application of this risks-adjusted antithrombotic protocol after revascularization with last generation EES seems to be associated with an improved prognosis in terms of ischemic and bleeding outcomes.

A Single JAZ Repressor Controls the Jasmonate Pathway in marchantia polymorpha

JAZ proteins are negative regulators of jasm onate responses,acting both as repressors of transcription factors and as co-receptors of JA-lle. The high redundancy of JAZ genes in angiosperms has hindered the characterization of a complete depletion of JAZ function. moreover, the recent discovery that dn- OPDA is the jasmonate ligand in marchantia polymorpha demonstrates that JA-lle is not the sole COI1/ JAZ ligand in land plants and highlights the importance of studying JAZ co-receptors in bryophytes? Here, we have exploited the low gene redundancy of the liverwort m. polymorpha to characterize the single mpJ4Z in this early diverging plant lineage. We clarify the phylogenetic history of the TIFY family, demonstrate that mpJAZ is the ortholog of AtJAZ with a conserved function, and characterize its repressor activity of dn-OPDA resp on ses. Our results show that, con sistent with previous findings in Arabidopsis, mpJAZ represses jasmonates biosynthesis, senescence, and plant defenses, and promotes cell growth and reproductive fitness, highlighting the power of studies in marchantia.

HSLA steels constitute one of the main types of steels produced worldwide by Thin Slab Direct Rolling technologies (TSDR).Among microalloying elements,the most widely used are V,Nb and *** elements play different roles during the austenite evolution in *** austenite conditioning before transformation,the limitations in the total reduction that can be applied in TSDR technologies need to be considered when composition/process parameters are *** this context,whereas an important number of studies have been focused on Nb microalloyed grades,a less systematic analysis has been performed concerning the role of vanadium on austenite *** paper analyzes these singularities taking into account different process parameter conditions,such as total reduction and initial rolling temperature.

On the Structure of Graded Leibniz Algebras

We study the structure of graded Leibniz algebras with arbitrary dimension and over an arbitrary base field K. We show that any of such algebras ￡ with a symmetric G-support is of the form ￡ = U-∑jIj with U a subspace of ￡1, the homogeneous component associated to the unit element 1 in G, and any Ij a well described graded ideal of ￡, satisfying [Ij, Ik]= 0 if j≠ k. In the case of ￡ being of maximal length, we characterize the gr-simplicity of the algebra in terms of connections in the support of the grading.
