Repeatability of in-vitro optical quality measurements of intraocular lenses with a deflectometry technique effect of the toricity

AIM： To evaluate the repeatability of an optical device for measuring the Zernike coefficients of toric intraocular lenses（IOLs） and assess whether its toricity has any impact in its repeatability. METHODS： An experienced technician used the NIMO TR1504 to measure the Zernike coefficients 30 times for an aperture of 4.50 mm for all lenses included. The IOLs included were divided into two group： toric and nontoric ones. The cylindrical powers of the toric lenses included in the present study were 1.00, 1.50, 2.25, 3.00 and 3.75 D. finally, the repeatability of the NIMO TR1504 was described in terms of within subject standard deviation（Sw） and repeatability limit. RESULTS： The Sw was smaller than 0.011 μm for both lens groups and all Zernike coefficients, and the difference between both groups was smaller than 0.004 μm for all Zernike coefficients. Regarding the repeatability limit, this value was smaller than 0.025 μm for the toric lens group, and smaller than 0.031 μm for the non-toric lens one for all Zernike coefficients. furthermore, the maximum difference between both lens groups was 0.010 μm. CONCLUSION： The repeatability of the NIMO TR1504 to measure the optical quality is high and independent of the lens toricity. These results reflect that this system is robust and could be used to measure the in-vitro optical quality of either toric or non-toric IOLs.

Effect of genistein supplementation of thawing medium on characteristics of frozen human spermatozoa

In this study, we evaluated the effects of genistein supplementation of the thawing extender on frozen-thawed human semen parameters. We analyzed the effect of supplementation on sperm motility, capacitation （membrane lipid disorder）, reactive oxygen species （ROS） generation, chromatin condensation and DNA damage. Using this preliminary information, it maybe possible to improve the cryopreservation process and reduce the cellular damage. We have confirmed that the isoflavone genistein （10 μmol L-1） has antioxidant properties on the frozen-thawed spermatozoa. This results in a decreased ROS production that shows a slight improvement in the sperm motility, and decreases the membrane lipid disorder and DNA damage caused by cryopreservation. These results suggest an effect of genistein on sperm functionality that could be of interest for assisted reproduction treatments using frozen- thawed human spermatozoa, but further studies will be necessary to confirm our findings and to evaluate the possible clinical applications.

The ionic liquid(IL) tributylmethylammonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide([N4441][NTf2]) was used as neat lubricant and as an additive(1.5 wt%) in a polar oil to study its friction and wear reducing *** tests were completed for 90 minutes at room temperature and 100 °C in a reciprocating configuration at loads of 30 and 70 N,10 Hz-frequency,and 4 mm stroke *** volume was measured by confocal microscopy and the surface-IL interaction determined by *** main findings were that neat IL showed the best tribological behavior;the IL-containing mixture behaved similar to the base oil regarding friction,however outperformed the antiwear behavior of the base oil under higher temperature;surface-IL chemical interaction was found mainly at 100 °C.

Phasor measurement units(PMUs)are fundamental tools in the applications of modern power systems,where synchronized phasor estimations are *** accuracy and dynamic performance requirements for phasor,frequency,and rate of change of frequency(ROCOf)estimations are established in the IEEE Std.C37.118.1-2011 along with the IEEE Std.C37.118.1 a-2014,where two PMU performances are suggested:P class filters for applications requiring fast response and M class filters for applications requiring high rejection to aliased *** this paper,a methodology to design new phasor estimators that satisfy the P class and M class requirements in PMUs is *** proposed methodology is based on finite impulse response filters,brick-wall filters,and complex filter design concepts,where frequency range,time performance,harmonic rejection and out-of-band interference requirements are considered in its design.A comparative analysis using the reference model given by the IEEE Std.C37.118.1 is *** results show the effectiveness of the phasor estimators under steady-state and dynamic conditions according to the PMU standard,making them suitable tools for applications in power systems.

Non-redundant Contribution of the Plastidial fAD8 ω-3 Desatumse to Glycerolipid Unsatumtion at Different Temperatures in Arabidopsis

Plastidial ω-3 desaturase fAD7 is a major contributor to trienoic fatty acid biosynthesis in the leaves of Arabidopsis plants. However, the precise contribution of the other plastidial ω-3 desaturase, fAD8, is poorly understood. fatty acid and lipid analysis of several ω-3 desaturase mutants, including two insertion lines of AtfAD7 and AtfAD8, showed that fAD8 partially compensated the disruption of the AtfAD7 gene at 22℃, indicating that fAD8 was active at this growth temperature, contrasting to previous observations that circumscribed the fAD8 activity at low temperatures. Our data revealed that fAD8 had a higher selectivity for 18：2 acyl-lipid substrates and a higher preference for lipids other than galactolipids, particularly phosphatidylglycerol, at any of the temperatures studied. Differences in the mechanism controlling AtfAD7 and AtfAD8 gene expression at different temperatures were also detected. Confocal microscopy and biochemical analysis of fAD8-YfP over-expressing lines confirmed the chloroplast envelope localization of fAD8. Co-localization experiments suggested that fAD8 and fAD7 might be located in close vicinity in the envelope membrane. fAD8-YfP over-expressing lines showed a specific increase in 18：3 fatty acids at 22℃. Together, these results indicate that the function of both plastidial ω-3 desaturases is coordinated in a non-redundant manner.

Sex-biased autophagy as a potential mechanism mediating sex differences in ischemic stroke outcome

Geodesic Vulnerability Approach for Identification of Critical Buses in Power Systems

One of the most critical issues in the evaluation of power systems is the identification of critical buses. for this purpose, this paper proposes a new methodology that evaluates the substitution of the power flow technique by the geodesic vulnerability index to identify critical nodes in power *** methods are applied comparatively to demonstrate the scope of the proposed approach. The applicability of the methodology is illustrated using the IEEE 118-bus test system as a case study. To identify the critical components, a node is initially disconnected, and the performance of the resulting topology is evaluated in the face of simulations for multiple cascading faults. Cascading events are simulated by randomly removing assets on a system that continually changes its structure with the elimination of each component. Thus, the classification of the critical nodes is determined by evaluating the resulting performance of 118 different topologies and calculating the damaged area for each of the disintegration curves of cascading failures. In summary, the feasibility and suitability of complex network theory are justified to identify critical nodes in power systems.
