Breast cancer is the most common type of malignant tumor among women and their second leading cause of cancer-related *** most common method for screening and diagnosis is ***,two main problems have been ***,the dose of radiation received during the test prevents the method from the use on women who are 〈 40 years ***,there can be mammogram failure owing to the lack of tumor contrast with the fibrous ***,there is a need for screening methods that will help to identify high-risk *** developed a biological marker test that can help to identify *** levels of sialic acid （SA） in saliva are known to correlated with breast *** this study,we evaluated the feasibility of Raman spectroscopy as a method for quantification of SA in saliva,using citrate-reduced silver nanoparticles （cit-Ag-NPs） as a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy （SERS） *** of SA was accomplished by measuring its intensity in saliva and comparing it with a calibration curve of SA *** mean SA concentration in saliva was found to be significantly higher among 100 breast cancer patients （18.3 ＆#177; 9.4 mg＆#183;dL-1;mean ＆#177; SD） than among 106 healthy controls （3.5 ＆#177; 1.0 mg＆#183;dL-1）.The SERS test showed sensitivity of 94% and specificity 98% for detection of patients with breast cancer,assuming that SA concentration 〉 7 mg＆#183;dL-1 is a cutoff for positive test *** findings prove the usefulness of this SERS technique as a simple,convenient,and highly sensitive method of quantitative analysis of SA in *** simplicity of this nanotechnological test may help to substantially reduce the mortality among patients with breast cancer by providing women with a simple,noninvasive screening test that can be applied regardless of age or density of breast tissue.

As photovoltaic energy increasingly penetrates in power systems,transmission system operators have started to request its participation in providing ancillary *** of the demanded services is the power ramp-rate control(PRRC),which attempts to limit the power ramps produced by intermittent irradiance *** order to achieve the desired objective,solutions based on storage systems or modifying the maximum power point tracking(MPPT)in perturb and observe(P&O)algorithms are commonly *** starting point in PRRC is the determination of the instantaneous power ramprate,and different methods have been proposed in the literature for its ***,the accuracy and computational speed of existing procedures can be improved,which may be critical in situations with rapid irradiance *** this paper,a decoupled photovoltaic power ramp-rate calculation method is presented,in which the effect of variable irradiance and the P&O algorithm are computed *** proposed method has been theoretically demonstrated and tested through simulation and experimental *** results show that it can improve the previous methods in terms of accuracy and computation *** validation with hardware-inthe-loop demonstrates the suitability of the proposed method for real-time applications,even in presence of noisy measurements.

Deep learning for land use and land cover classification from the Ecuadorian Paramo.

The paramo,plays an important role in our ecosystems as They balance the water resources and can retain substantial quantities of *** research was carried out in the province of Tungurahua,specifically the Quero *** aim is to develop a classification of the land use land cover(LULC)in the paramo using satellite imagery using several classifiers and determine which one obtains the best performance,for which three different approaches were applied:Pixel-Based Image Analysis(PBIA),Geographic Object-Based Image Analysis(GEOBIA),and a Deep Neural Network(DNN).Various parameters were used,such as the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI),the Bare Soil Index(BSI),texture,altitude,and *** classes were used:paramo,pasture,crops,herbaceous vegetation,urban,shrubrainland,and forestry *** data was obtained with the help of onsite technical experts,using geo-referencing and reference *** the models used the highest-ranked was DNN with an overall precision of 87.43%,while for the paramo class specifically,GEOBIA reached a precision of 95%.

Global changes explain the long-term demographic trend of the Eurasian common lizard (Squamata: Lacertidae)

The demographic trend of a species depends on the dynamics of its local populations,which can be compromised by local or by global ***,the relevance of local and global phenomena has rarely been investigated ***,we tested whether local phenomena compromised a species'demographic trend using the Eurasian common lizard Zootoca vivipara,the terrestrial reptile exhibiting the widest geographic distribution,as a model *** analyzed the species'ancient demographic trend using genetic data from its 6 allopatric genetic clades and tested whether its demographic trend mainly depended on single clades or on global *** vivipara's effective population size increased since 2.3 million years ago and started to increase steeply and continuously from 0.531 million years *** growth rate exhibited 2 maxima,both occurring during global climatic changes and important vegetation changes on the northern *** population size and growth rate were negatively correlated with global surface temperatures,in line with global parameters driving long-term demographic *** vivipara's ancient demography was neither driven by a single clade,nor by the 2 clades that colonized huge geographic areas after the last *** low importance of local phenomena,suggests that the experimentally demonstrated high sensitivity of this species to short-term ecological changes is a response in order to cope with short-term and local *** suggests that what affected its long-term demographic trend the most,were not these local changes/responses,but rather the important and prolonged global climatic changes and important vegetation changes on the northern hemisphere,including the opening up of the forest by humans.

Molecular cloning and characterization of a lipid transfer protein gene(PsLTP1) from Pinus sylvestris(L.)

Plant nonspecific lipid transfer proteins (nsLTPs) are widely distributed through plant kingdom and are characterized by the presence of a central hydrophobic cavity, suitable for binding various hydrophobic molecules. Despite extensive research on nsLTP in different plant species, mostly angiosperm, and the great diversity of physiological processes in which they seem to be involved, their exact functions still remain unclear. Also, very limited experimental data are available on nsLTP in gymnosperm. In this study, we report for the first time on the molecular cloning of nsLTP, from Pinus sylvestris L.(PsLTP1, GenBank accession JN980402.1) and the expression pattern of PsLTP1 during ontogenesis and in response to environmental stress conditions. Total RNA from roots of 7-day old pine seedlings was used to isolate the cDNA clone, corresponding to Scots pine lipid transfer protein. The open reading frame of PsLTP1 consists of 372 bp encoding a protein of 123 amino acids. Amino acid sequence alignment revealed that mature PsLTP1 shares high level of similarity with nsLTP from other conifers and with well-studied nsLTPs from angiosperms. The PsLTP1 contains a 27-amino-acid N-terminal signal sequence and presents all the features of a plant nsLTP. Amino acid comparison analysis and 3D structure prediction showed that PsLTP1 is a type 1 nsLTP. The results of the expression analysis of Scots pine PsLTP1 gene revealed that its transcripts accumulate in actively growing tissues. Furthermore, transcription of PsLTP1 was upregulated in response to cold and salt treatments, and downregulated during acidic, osmotic and water stresses.

Quantification of the Mixture of Hydrothermal and Fresh Water in Tectonic Valleys

This study was conducted to identify the origin, hydrogeochemical processes and evolution of groundwater in a tectonic valley. This study was carried out with the aim of quantifying the proportions of groundwater flows contributing to the water chemistry abstracted in a zone of convergence favored by the presence of active faults. The study area is located in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. End members methodology was applied to identify the mixing of hydrothermal with fresh groundwater, where changes in the aquifer geology result in distinct groundwater chemical signatures. Ternary mixing was quantified using conservative elements. Moreover, other evolutionary processes, such as ion exchange and silicate weathering occur due to changes in the geology of the area. In ternary mixing, each of the end members is associated with the lithology through which it circulates. The local flow contributes 70% of the water to the system, the intermediate flow contributes 14%, and the regional flow contributes 16%. Three types of water are produced: Na-HCO3, due to the interaction of water with volcanic rocks of rhyolitic composition, Na-Mg-HCO3, due to the interaction of water with volcanic rocks of basaltic-andesite composition, and Ca-HCO3, due to the interaction of water with sedimentary calcareous rocks.

Developing green super rice varieties with high nutrient use efficiency by phenotypic selection under varied nutrient conditions

The development of green super rice varieties with improved nutrient use efficiency(NuUE)is a vital target area to increase yield and make it more stable under rainfed *** the present study, we followed an early backcross(BC) breeding approach by using a highyielding and widely adapted Xian variety, Weed Tolerant Rice 1(WTR-1), as a recipient and a Geng variety, Hao-An-Nong(HAN), as a *** from the BC1F2 generation, the BC population went through one generation of selection under irrigated, low-input, and rainfed conditions, followed by four consecutive generations of screening and selection for high grain yield(GY) under six different nutrient conditions(NPK, 75 N,-N,-P,-NP, and-NPK), leading to the development of 230 BC1F6 introgression lines(ILs).These 230 ILs were evaluated under the same six nutrient conditions for 13 agro-morphological and grain yield component traits in comparison to four checks and *** trait variations were observed between the treatments and *** correlations were identified for GY with biomass, panicle length, flag-leaf area, flag-leaf width, filled grain number per panicle,1000-grain weight, and tiller number under-N,-P,-NP, and-NPK *** of 230 ILs,12 were identified as promising under two or more nutrient deficiency *** results demonstrated an efficient inter-subspecific BC breeding procedure with a first round of selection under rainfed-drought conditions, followed by four generations of progeny testing for yield performance under six nutrient *** promising ILs can be useful resources for molecular genetic dissection and understanding the physiological mechanisms of NuUE.
