Effects of small-scale disturbances and elevation on the morphology,phenology and reproduction of a successful geophyte

Aims We aimed to find out how a geophyte,Merendera montana,occupies a wide ecological,elevational and climatic *** occurrence in that environmental array is outstanding not only among geophytes but also in the whole flora of the Iberian Peninsula,where only a very few plants show such an apparent ***,we compared morphological and reproductive traits,and frequency of different types of reproduction in disturbed and undisturbed ***,we have analyzed the phenology of this plant by trying to understand how it manages to spread in an exceptional elevational gradient of 2000 m,with contrasting climatic regimes between the mediterranean and the alpine *** We measured the plant density of *** populations in different types of Pyrenean grasslands either with or without small-scale disturbances at seven sites from the basal to the alpine belt(400–2300 m a.s.l.).In each one of these populations,100 individuals—1200 in total—were uprooted to measure their morphological features as well as type and occurrence of ***(flowering and fruiting dates and leaf lifespan)was estimated using 5 years of records in the studied areas and>200 herbarium sheets from the whole altitudinal rank and collected in the last 30 *** in plant densities were analyzed with non-parametric Mann–Whitney U-test;differences in morphological traits,fruit and seed production associated with disturbance,with one-way analysis of covariance test(general linear model).Finally,linear regression analyses were used to determine the relationships between clonal reproduction and elevation and those between flowering,fruiting and senescence and date and *** Findings In all cases,plant density in disturbed grasslands was significantly higher than in undisturbed *** height and weight,bulb depth,leaf width and bulb and root weight were higher in disturbed *** and undisturbed plots were similar

In this paper,we apply the spatial panel model to explore the relationship between the dynamic of two types of crude oil prices(WTI and Brent crude oil)and their refined products over *** the turbulent months of 2011,when Cushing Oklahoma had reached capacity and the crude oil export ban removal in 2015 as breakpoints,we apply this method both in the full sample and the three resultant ***,results suggest our results show that both WTI and Brent display very similar behaviour with the refined ***,when attending to each regime,results derived from the first and third regimes are quite similar to the full sample ***,during the second regime,Brent crude oil became the benchmark in the petrol market,and it influenced the distillate ***,our model can let us determine the price-setters and price-followers in the price formation mechanism through refined *** results possess important considerations to policymakers and the market participants and the price formation.

Alagille syndrome(ALGS;OMIM#118450)is a highlyvariable,multi-systemic,autosomal dominant disorder,caused by mutations in the Jagged Canonical notch Ligand 1(JAG1)gene(20p12.2)or in the neurogenic locus notch homolog protein 2(nOTCH2)gene(1p13).^(1)It primarily affects the liver,heart,eyes,face,kidney,skin,vertebrae,and skeleton.^(1,2)The JAG1 gene has 26 exons and about 90%of the ALGS cases result from pathogenic variants in the JAG1 and around 7%of cases have deletions in chromosome 20 that include this gene.

Predicting the clothing insulation through machine learning algorithms:A comparative analysis and a practical approach

Since indoor clothing insulation is a key element in thermal comfort models,the aim of the present study is proposing an approach for predicting it,which could assist the occupants of a building in terms of recommendations regarding their *** that,a systematic analysis of input variables is exposed,and 13 regression and 12 classification machine learning algorithms were developed and *** results are based on data from 3352 questionnaires and 21 input variables from a field study in mixed-mode office buildings in *** temperature at 6 a.m.,indoor air temperature,indoor relative humidity,comfort temperature and gender were the most relevant features for predicting clothing *** comparing machine learning algorithms,decision tree-based algorithms with Boosting techniques achieved the best *** proposed model provides an efficient method for forecasting the clothing insulation level and its application would entail optimising thermal comfort and energy efficiency.

When data privacy is imposed as a necessity,Federated learning(FL)emerges as a relevant artificial intelligence field for developing machine learning(ML)models in a distributed and decentralized *** allows ML models to be trained on local devices without any need for centralized data transfer,thereby reducing both the exposure of sensitive data and the possibility of data interception by malicious third *** paradigm has gained momentum in the last few years,spurred by the plethora of real-world applications that have leveraged its ability to improve the efficiency of distributed learning and to accommodate numerous participants with their data *** virtue of FL,models can be learned from all such distributed data sources while preserving data *** aim of this paper is to provide a practical tutorial on FL,including a short methodology and a systematic analysis of existing software ***,our tutorial provides exemplary cases of study from three complementary perspectives:i)Foundations of FL,describing the main components of FL,from key elements to FL categories;ii)Implementation guidelines and exemplary cases of study,by systematically examining the functionalities provided by existing software frameworks for FL deployment,devising a methodology to design a FL scenario,and providing exemplary cases of study with source code for different ML approaches;and iii)Trends,shortly reviewing a non-exhaustive list of research directions that are under active investigation in the current FL *** ultimate purpose of this work is to establish itself as a referential work for researchers,developers,and data scientists willing to explore the capabilities of FL in practical applications.

Expression changes of mi RnA-regulated genes associated with the formation of the leafy head in cabbage

The vegetative development of cabbage(Brassica oleracea ***)passes through seedling,rosette,folding and heading *** that form the rosette are large and mostly *** the following developmental stages,the plants produce leaves that curve inward to produce the leafy *** microRnAs and their target genes have been described participating in leaf development and leaf *** aim of this study is to investigate the role of miRnA-regulated genes in the transition from the rosette to the heading *** compared the mi RnA and gene abundances between emerging rosette and heading *** remove transcripts(miRnAs and genes)whose regulation was most likely associated with plant age rather than the change from rosette to heading stage,we utilized a non-heading collard green(*** ***)morphotype as *** resulted in 33 DEMs and 1998 DEGs with likely roles in the transition from rosette to heading stage in *** these 1998 DEGs,we found enriched GO terms related to DnA-binding transcription factor activity,transcription regulator activity,iron ion binding,and *** predicted the target genes of these 33 DEMs and focused on the subset that was differentially expressed(1998DEGs)between rosette and heading stage leaves to construct mi RnA-target gene interaction *** main finding is a role for miR396b-5p targeting two Arabidopsis thaliana orthologues of GROWTH REGULATInG FACTORs 3(GRF3)and 4(GRF4)in pointed cabbage head formation.

Unraveling the interaction between soil microbiomes and their potential for restoring polluted soils
