Remote sensing techniques are a useful tool for continuous observation of the Earth at global ***,products derived from remote sensing data require a rigorous validation using in situ *** Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MoDIS)is not really a sounding instrument,but it does have 16 infrared bands(bands 20-36 covering the spectral range from 3μm to 14μm)that allow the retrieval of temperature and moisture profiles as well as total column integrated *** this paper we show the results obtained in the evaluation of MoD07 daytime and nighttime products over the Iberian Peninsula during the decade from 2000 to 2010 using nine radiosonde *** MoDIS limitations in comparison with other sounding instruments,the validation provided satisfactory results,with bias(MoD07 minus radiosonde)cm and a standard deviation of 0.5 cm for the total column water vapor,and bias around 1 K on average with standard deviations between 2 K and 3 K for air temperature at different pressure *** average,bias was positive and below 2 K with standard deviations around 5 K for the dew point temperature *** errors were found in this case for pressure levels higher than 50 hPa.

Methionine adenosyltransferases(MATs)are essential enzymes for life as they produce S-adenosylmethionine(SAMe),the biological methyl donor required for a plethora of reactions within the *** systems express two genes,MAT1A and MAT2A,which encode for MATα1 and MATα2,the catalytic subunits of the MAT isoenzymes,respectively.A third gene MAT2B,encodes a regulatory subunit known as MATβwhich controls the activity of MATα***1A,which is mainly expressed in hepatocytes,maintains the differentiated state of these cells,whilst MAT2A and MAT2B are expressed in extrahepatic tissues as well as non-parenchymal cells of the liver(e.g.,hepatic stellate and Kupffer cells).The biosynthesis of SAMe is impaired in patients with chronic liver disease and liver cancer due to decreased expression and inactivation of MATα1.A switch from MAT1A to MAT2A/MAT2B occurs in multiple liver diseases and during liver growth and dedifferentiation,but this change in the expression pattern of MATs results in reduced hepatic SAMe *** of study have utilized the Mat1a-knockout(Ko)mouse that spontaneously develops non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)and hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)to elucidate a variety of mechanisms by which MAT proteins dysregulation contributes to liver *** increasing volume of work indicates that MATs have SAMe-independent functions,distinct interactomes and multiple subcellular *** we aim to provide an overview of MAT biology including genes,isoenzymes and their regulation to provide the context for understanding consequences of their *** will highlight recent breakthroughs in the field and underscore the importance of MAT’s in liver tumorigenesis as well as their potential as targets for cancer therapy.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are an uncommon group of tumors of mesenchymal origin. GIST of the anal canal is extremely rare. At present, only 10 cases of c-kit positive anal GIST have been reported in the literature. There is no widely accepted treatment approach for this neoplasia. Literature is sparse on imaging evaluation of anal canal GIST, usually described as a lesion in the intersphincteric space. We describe the case of a 73-year-old man with a mass in the anal canal, and no other symptoms. Endoanal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging showed a well circumscribed solid nodule in the intersphincteric space. The patient was treated by local excision. Gross pathological examination showed a 7 cm × 3.5 cm × 3 cm mass, and histological examination showed a proliferation of spindle cells, with prominent nuclear palisading. The mitotic count was of 12 mitoses/50 HPF. The tumor was positive for KIT protein, cD34 and vimentin in the majority of cells, and negative for desmin and S100. A diagnosis of GIST, with high risk aggressive behavior was made. An abdomino-perineal resection was discussed, but refused. The follow-up included clinical evaluation and anal ultrasound. After 5 years the patient is well, with maintained continence and no evidence of local recurrence.

obtaining depth of closure(Doc) in an accurate manner is a fundamental issue for coastal engineering,since good results for coastal structures and beach nourishment depend mainly on Doc. currently, there are two methods for obtaining the Doc, mathematical formulations and profile surveys. However, these methods can incur important errors if one does not take into account the characteristics and morphology of the area, or if one does not have a sufficiently long time series. In this work the Doc is obtained from the break in the trend of the sediment with the depth, that is, in general with the increase of the depth a decrease in the size of the sediment takes place. However, at one point this tendency changes and the size increases, and then decreases again. When comparing the point where the minimum sediment size occurs before the increase, it is observed that the error incurred is small compared to other methods. If the Standard Deviation of Depth change(SDDc) method is considered as the most accurate method, the error incurred by the proposed method is less than 7%. In addition, it can be seen that the dispersion of the sediment method always occurs outside the zone of bar movement. Whereas in the methods of profiles survey(using 2 cm precision profiles), sometimes the Doc is obtained within the active zone of bar movement. In addition, where the relative minimum of the median sediment size is found, and the sizes of 0.063 and 0.125 mm predominate in the composition of the sample. Therefore, this new method allows the precise location of the Doc to be obtained in a fast and simple way. Furthermore, this method has the advantage that it is not affected by the modifications that may be experienced by both the study area and the cross-shore beach profile.
