Introduction: As representatives of prokaryotic beings, bacteria were selected in nature for their very high capacity to adapt to the environment. The human body comprises a vast population of bacteria needed for health maintenance;skin lesions represent a major public health problem involving the nutritional, hospital and illness of the patient. Objective: The objective of this study was to verify the effect of the plasma jet on bacterial species and to correlate it with clinical physiotherapy. Method: This is an in vitro experimental study carried out at FSG University Center. Performed through cultures of bacteria Sthaphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae under the effect of plasma jet. Results: As observed all strains were resistant to penicillin, creating no inhibition halo in any of them. In the plates of the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, in the area where the Plasma Jet was applied there was no microbial growth. In Klebsiella pneumoniae strains microbial growth was achieved in 90 and 120 seconds. Finally, Pseudomonas aeruginosa plates in the 90 seconds were microbial growth compared to the 120 and 180 seconds. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the time of application of the plasma jet has an important role in the antimicrobial action, when compared to Physiotherapy, a new method of treatment for skin lesions may be an option, with the aim of reducing infections and accelerating the process of tissue healing.

Vulvovaginal candidiasis is an infection of the genital mucosa, which involves the vulva and vagina caused by yeast. It is considered a recurrent pathology and a public health problem that causes discomfort by the triggers and that, when left untreated, can lead to health problems. The present study is a report of two cases treated with the MAC® - Scar Acceleration Method - (MAC®) methodology at the Physiotherapy School Clinic of Teaching Center of Campos Gerais (CESCAGE) as a pilot for the proposal to implement the protocol at the Municipal Center for Women’s Health—CMM in the municipality of Ponta Grossa—PR, Brazil. The patients were referred by Basic Health Units in the city with complaints of pruritus, vaginal discharge and local burning with the diagnosis of candidiasis evidenced by culture and antibiogram. Patients were treated with photodynamic therapy using the MAC® method for 14 consecutive days with 660 nm red laser phototherapy, 100 mW of power, 9 joules of energy, photosensitizing the drug Turmeric Long in one of the participants and propolis in the other, using 1% methylene blue dye. Background: The prostate is the site of problems that have great clinical relevance. Beside this, the alterations in their volume can be divided into benign or malignant pathologies, but of multifactorial cause and there is no examination that alone is reliable for the diagnosis. despite the evolution of the various methods of diagnostic imaging in the evaluation of pelvic diseases, the diagnosis of prostate cancer still requires histological confirmation obtained by transrectal ultrasound guided biopsy, a procedure that is generally safe and well tolerated by the patients. The most common histological type found in prostate biopsies is adenocarcinoma. Methodology: The objective of this study was to study the values of density of the prostate-specific antigen (DPSA) compared to histopathological results of prostate biopsy, patients attended at the Urology Outpatient Clinic of the Luiz Gioseffi Jannuzzi School Hospital from 1999 to 2007, using Exploratory, retrospective and documentary descriptive study. The sample was divided into groups of patients with adenocarcinoma and patients without adenocarcinoma, who presented only benign prostatic hyperplasia. Results: Of the 251 patients undergoing prostate biopsy, 124 were diagnosed with adenocarcinoma and 127 without adenocarcinoma. It was observed in this study that the DPSA was higher in adenocarcinoma than in the cases of patients with prostatic hyperplasia alone, and could therefore be used as an auxiliary tool in both diagnosis and follow-up of patients with adenocarcinoma. Conclusion: In this study, it can be observed that DPSA was higher in patients presenting with adenocarcinoma than in patients presenting only Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), reinforcing its promising role to assist in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with adenocarcinoma.

目的:评估巴西补充与替代医学(CAM)运用的普及情况。方法:利用巴西国家健康调查(PNS)2013年对本国成年人使用CAM疗法(如针灸、顺势疗法、药用植物和草药)的调查数据,采用逻辑回归模型(95%CI)评估CAM的使用频率。结果:巴西CAM使用率为4.5%。使用CAM频率较高的群体为:女性(AOR=1.42),年龄>40岁(AOR=1.64),受教育程度较高(AOR=2.35),来自巴西北部及南部地区(AOR=2.02,AOR=1.67),P值均<0.001。社会经济地位方面,上层阶级使用针灸和顺势疗法的频率高于其他阶级,低收入群体使用药用植物和草药的频率较高。研究发现使用CAM治疗的患者超过一半是在医疗保健系统之外进行的,与其他治疗方式相比,巴西统一卫生系统(SUS)在CAM的资金投入最少。结论:巴西卫生部应加大对CAM从业人员专业能力建设的资金投入,为卫生服务机构开展CAM治疗提供更多机会,积极鼓励更多巴西人民接受CAM疗法。

Ilha Grande Bay is one of the biggest producers of bivalves of Rio de Janeiro State. Statistics reports of foodborne diseases are quite low in Brazil, however, this fact is a matter of Public Health. In their majority concerning consumption of bivalves meat, the availability of safe products requires the use of technology as food irradiation. The objective of this paper was to evaluate the presence of bacteria resulting from the environmental contamination and epidemiological importance, Salmonella spp., total and faecal coliforms of mussel （Perna perna） from that region and the use of irradiation on the product in natura. Fifteen indicative samples of mussel were collected from five gr owing points in Ilha Grande Bay. A sample of each point was irradiated with doses of 1.0 and 1.5 kGy. The bacteriological analysis followed the instructions of the Brazilian legislation. The samples presented irregularities in relation to Salmonella spp. and faecal coliforms, the latter for the control group. The control group was noticed as not appropriate for consumption. The dose of 1.0 kGy was effective for the reduction of faecal coliforms, but ineffective for the extinction of Salmonella spp.

In this paper, we use deA to measure the NBA basketball teams’ efficiency in seasons 2006-2007, 2007-2008, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. In this context, each team is a DMU;we select the payroll and the average attendance to be the inputs while the wins and the average points per game to be the outputs. First, in order to obtain benchmarks, we measure the DMUs efficiency through classic deA BCC model with an assurance region for each one of the four seasons individually and together. When we consider the four seasons together, we may analyse whether the performance of each team increases or decreases over time. Next, we evaluate the teams cross efficiency by deA game to consider that there is no cooperation among DMUs. This approach also improves the efficiencies discrimination.
