Effect of drug therapies on self-reported chemosensory outcomes after COVID-19

Objective:The aim of this study was to assess the relative efficacy of medications used following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2)infection on self-reported alterations in taste and/or smell ***:Seven hundred and fourteen persons with self-reported postcoronavirus disease 2019(post-COVID-19)chemosensory disorders were personally interviewed regarding specific medications they were administered following the acute phase of the *** dependent measure—self-reported total recovery of chemosensory symptoms—was subjected to stepwise logistic *** predictors included dem.graphic and clinical variables,in addition to specific medications used to mitigate disease symptoms(i.e.,systemic corticosteroids,oseltamivir,vitamin C,ibuprofen,hydroxychloroquine,azithromycin,ivermectin,nitazoxanide,anticoagulants,and zinc).Results:The median time between COVID-19 symptom onset and the interviews was 81 days(interquartile range:60-104).Of the 714 subjects,249(34.9%)reported total recovery of their chemosensory function;437(61.2%)had at least one treatment since the beginning of the *** and those with more comorbidities had undergone more *** recovery rates of the treated and nontreated groups did not differ ***,respondents who had used nitazoxanide tended to have a higher rate of self-reported taste or smell *** who took oral zinc were less likely to ***:No medication employed during the first months after SARS-CoV-2 infection had a clear positive effect on returning self-reported smell or taste function to normal,although nitrazoxide trended in a positive *** zinc had a negative effect on the reported recovery of these senses.

metabolic diseases are highly prevalent worldwide and have been associated with adverse clinical outcomes,including mortality,in patients developing coronavirus disease(COVID-19).Because of the close relationship between metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity and the presence of metabolicassociated fatty liver disease(mAFLD),a high number of cases of patients affected by both mAFLD and COVID-19 would be expected,especially in highrisk *** studies have shown an increased risk of adverse clinical outcomes,viral shedding,and deep vein thrombosis,especially in patients with mAFLD-related liver *** predisposition to poor outcomes and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection in patients with mAFLD could be secondary to mechanisms common to both,including preexisting systemic chronic inflammation,endothelial dysfunction,and involvement of the renin-angiotensin *** of the increased risk of adverse outcomes,mAFLD should be screened in all patients admitted for *** computed tom.graphy scans could be of help,assessment of liver fibrosis is also recommended,favoring noninvasive methods to limit the exposure of healthcare *** involvement in this population ranges from abnormalities in liver chemistry to hepatic steatosis in postmortem ***,preventive measures should be strongly advocated in patients already known to have mAFLD,including the use of telemedicine and vaccination in addition to general measures.

目的哮喘-慢性阻塞性肺疾病肺重叠症(Asthma-chronie obst ructive pulmonary disease overlap,A-CO)患者的生活质量较低,肺功能较差,病情经常加重。由于暴露于污染环境会加重其症状,增加发病率和病死率,环境管理对其至关重要。旨在通过系统性综述,寻找证据,以指导制订护理干预措施,促进ACO患者对空气质量的自我管理。方法2023年3月 ,系统检索CINAHL、medline、Academie Search Complete .Scopus、WebofScience、Cochrane图书馆、乔安娜布里格斯研究所(JoannaBriggsInstitute,JBI)循证实践数据库,以及googleScholar。对纳人研究进行数据提取和综合,并对护理干预措施进行分类。采用JBI研究质量评估工具进行方法学质量评估。结果共纳入5篇来自不同国家的研究。促进ACO患者自我监控空气质量的干预措施包括:警觉性干预措施(医务人员定期巡诊、进行症状评估),监测干预措施(监测室内外诱发因素) ,教育干预措施(空气质量警报、避免接触过敏原),以及相关政策的影响,如无烟政策和改善空气质量的综合战略。尽管这些研究报告了不同的干预措施,方法质量也存在差异,但这些干预措施显示了预防患者病情恶化、尽量减少急诊就诊和住院治疗的潜力。这些关键点可作为护理干预措施的关键组成部分。结论有必要采取全面措施,让护士参与促进患者自我监控空气质量的多学科团队.提高认识、制订和实施护理干预,从而使ACO患者受益。同时,需要进--步开展研究,以扩大证据基础并完善这些干预措施。

Encapsulated peracetic acid as a valid broad‑spectrum antimicrobial alternative,leading to beneficial microbiota compositional changes and enhanced performance in broiler chickens

Background Antimicrobial alternatives are urgently needed,including for poultry production *** this study,we tested the potential broad-range antimicrobial alternative peracetic acid,delivered in feed via the hydrolysis of encapsulated precursors through a 28-day study using 375 Ross 308 broiler *** tested two peracetic acid concentrations,30 and 80 mg/kg on birds housed on re-used litter,and we evaluated the impact of both levels on gut microbial communities,bacterial concentration,antimicrobial resistance genes relative abundance and growth performance when compared to control birds housed on either clean or re-used *** Body weight gain and feed conversion ratio improved in peracetic acid fed *** d 28,birds given 30 mg/kg of peracetic acid had a decreased Firmicutes and an increased Proteobacteria abundance in the jejunum,accompanied by an increase in Bacillus,Flavonifractor and Rombustia in the caeca,and a decreased abundance of tetracycline resistance *** given 80 mg/kg of peracetic acid had greater caecal abundance of macrolides lincosamides and streptogramins resistance *** performance on clean litter was reduced compared to reused litter,which concurred with increased caecal abundance of Blautia,decreased caecal abundance of Escherichia/Shigella,Anaerostipes and Jeotgalicoccus,and greater gene abundance of vancomycin,tetracycline,and macrolides resistance *** Peracetic acid could be used as a safe broad-spectrum antimicrobial alternative in *** precursors were able to reduce the bacterial concentration in the jejunum whilst promoting the proliferation of probiotic genera in the caeca,especially at the low peracetic acid concentrations tested,and improve growth ***,our findings offer further insights on potential benefits of rearing birds on re-used litter,suggesting that the latter could be associated with better performance and reduced antimicrobial resistance

Extrapulmonary Tuberculosis (EPTB) is the TB involving organs other than lungs. The diagnosis of EPTB can be difficult, as suspicion is challenging, because it presents with nonspecific clinical features and atypical presentation. Furthermore, patients with HIV may present with fever of unknown origin (FUO) as the only symptom. We present a clinical case of a 49 years old Puertorrican female with HIV-AIDS and no high-risk behavior with an abdominal pain and fever. The investigation confirmed an Abdominal Tuberculosis. This case emphasizes the need to add Abdominal tuberculosis (ATB) within the differential diagnosis and discuss the diagnostic process.

Source Apportionment of Pm2.5 in the metropolitan Area of Costa Rica Using Receptor models

In this work, receptor models were used to identify the Pm2.5 sources and its contribution to the air quality in residential, comercial and industrial sampling sites in the metropolitan Area of Costa Rica. Principal component analysis with absolute principal component scores (PCA-APCS), UNImX and positive matrix factorization (PmF) was applied to analyze the data collected during 1 year of sampling campaign (2010-2011). The Pm2.5 samples were characterized through its composition looking for trace elements, inorganic ions and organic and elemental carbon. These three models identified some common sources of Pm2.5: marine aerosol, crustal material, traffic, secondary aerosols (secondary sulfate and secondary nitrate resolved by PmF), a mixed source of heavy fuels combustion and biomass burning, and industrial emissions. The three models predicted that the major sources of Pm2.5 in the metropolitan Area of Costa Rica were related to anthropogenic sources (73%, 65% and 69%, respectively, for PCA-APCS, Unmix and PmF) although natural sources also contributed to Pm2.5 (21%, 24% and 26%). On average, PCA and PmF methods resolved 94% and 95% of the Pm2.5 mass concentrations, respectively. The results were comparable to the estimate using UNmIX.

Effect of the Inclusion of Chestnut in the Finishing Diet on Volatile Compounds of Dry-Cured Ham from Celta Pig Breed

The effect of the inclusion of chestnut in pigs ifnishing diet on volatile compounds of dry-cured Celta ham was studied. Twelve hams of each type （from three different pigs ifnishing diets：concentrate （CO）, mixed （mI） and chestnut （CH）） were used. Volatiles were extracted using a purge-and-trap method and analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry （gC/mS）. Thirty-nine volatile compounds were identified in dry-cured Celta ham samples. most abundant volatiles in ham samples were aldehydes, which represented respectively, 53% （CO）, 51% （mI） and 46% （CH） of the total volatile composition. With the exception of 2-butenal, 2-methyl, all aldehydes were affected by feeding system. On the other hand, hydrocarbons n-alkanes were the second major group in the volatile proifle of dry-cured Celta hams and represented 28.9, 35.7 and 32.4%of the total volatile composition for CO, mI and CH groups, respectively. Ham samples from chestnut group showed a higher content of alcohols and this result could be related with the inclusion of chestnut in the ifnishing diet of pigs. Principal component analysis showed a good separation among groups. The discriminant analysis selected eight variables （butanoic acid, hexanal, octanal, nonenal （E）, decenal （E）, tetradecane, decane trimethyl and pyridine 2-methyl） and calculated two discriminating functions to predict if chestnut has been included in the ifnishing diet. Thus, it was possible to discriminate between groups fed with ifnishing diets containing chestnuts in their composition （mixed and chestnut group）.

BACKgROUND From February 2020 onwards,our country has been hit by the coronavirus severe acute respiratory syndrome-2(SARS-CoV-2)*** a glance,hospitals became overrun and had to reformulate all the assistance guidelines,focusing on the coronavirus disease *** year after the start of the pandemic,we present the results of a morbimortality *** To analyze how our department was affected by the outbreak in terms of morbimortality,and to analyze dem.graphic data,admission to hospital-related data,and subgroups analyses for patients with hip fractures and *** We designed a study comparing data from patients who were admitted to our unit due to a lower limb fracture or a high energy trauma during the pandemic(from march to April 2020)to those admitted during the same period in 2019 before the *** the pandemic *** cohorts completed a minimum of 6 mo of *** The number of patients admitted to hospital in 2020 was nearly half of those in *** fractures in the elderly represented 52 out of 73 of the admitted *** patients had a positive test result for SARS-CoV-2 *** with SARS-CoV-2 infection were admitted to the hospital for a longer time than the non-infected(Pgher mortality rate during hospitalization and follow-up(P=0.02).Patients with a hip fracture associated with a severe respiratory syndrome were mostly selected for conservative treatment(P=0.03).CONCLUSION mortality and readmission rates were higher in the 2020 cohort and during follow-up,in comparison with the cohort in 2019.
