Parameter identification for a damage phase field model using a physics-informed neural network

This work applies concepts of artificial neural networks to identify the parameters of a mathematical model based on phase fields for damage and *** mechanics is the part of the continuum mechanics that models the effects of micro-defect formation using state variables at the macroscopic *** equations that define the model are derived from fundamental laws of physics and provide important relationships among state *** using the model considered in this work produce good qualitative and quantitative results,but many parameters must be adjusted to reproduce certain material *** identification of model parameters is considered by solving an inverse problem that uses pseudo-experimental data to find the best values that fit the *** apply physics informed neural network and combine some classical estimation methods to identify the material parameters that appear in the damage equation of the *** strategy consists of a neural network that acts as an approximating function of the damage evolution with output regularized using the residue of the differential *** stages of optimization seek the best possible values for the neural network and the material *** training alternates between the fitting of only the pseudo-experimental data or the total loss that includes the regularizing *** test the robustness of the method to noisy data and its generalization capabilities using a simple physical case for the damage *** procedure deals better with noisy data in comparison with a more standard PDE-constrained optimization method,and it also provides good approximations of the material parameters and the evolution of damage.

Retroperitoneal Air after ERCP with Sphincterotomy: Frequency and Clinical Significance —Retroperitoneal Air after Sphincterotomy

Background and Aim: After successful medical management of a patient with a clinical picture suggestive of post-sphincterotomy duodenal perforation, in which a computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan of the abdomen revealed the presence of subcutaneous emphysema and retroperitoneal air, concern arose as to the frequency of pneumoretroperitoneum following endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with sphincterotomy (ES) and if any procedure dependent factors were associated with this problem. Aim: To assess the frequency and clinical significance of retroperitoneal air after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography with sphincterotomy. Methods: Fifty consecutive patients, who had undergone ERCP with sphincterotomy, were submitted to abdominal CT examinations within 24 hours after completion of the procedure. One patient was with a large precut, but a failed ERCP was also included. The ERCP findings were unknown to the radiologist. Results: Seven (14%) of 50 patients showed CT findings of retroperitoneal air. All of them had uneventful post-procedural recovery. No clinical or laboratory abnormality was found in this group of patients. The presence of retroperitoneal air was not associated to the variables: precut, biliopancreatic disease type, endoscopic sphincterotomy length, additional endoscopic procedure (balloon exploration, gallstone extraction, stent insertion) or procedure duration. Conclusion: After ERCP with ES, retroperitoneal air is frequently found. In the absence of physical symptoms, retroperitoneal air is not clinically relevant and does not require specific treatment.

Olfactory ensheathing glia promote axonal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system,including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic ***,it is unknown whether olfactory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective *** ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic factor,one of the best neuroprotectants for axotomized retinal ganglion ***,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of olfactory ensheating glia after optic nerve *** ensheathing glia cells from an established rat immortalized clonal cell line,TEG3,were intravitreally injected in intact and axotomized retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic mode with or without microglial inhibition or immunosuppressive *** and gene expression analyses were *** bulb-derived primary olfactory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express major histocompatibility complex classⅡ*** and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous for up to 21 days,forming an *** axotomized retinas,only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 *** these retinas,microglial anatomical activation was higher than after optic nerve crush *** intact retinas,both transplants activated microglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days,a loss that was higher after allotransplantation,triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by microglial inhibition or ***,neuroprotection of axotomized retinal ganglion cells did not improve with these *** different neuroprotective properties,different toxic effects,and different responses to microglial inhibitory treatments of olfactory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of transplant highlight the importance of thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

A Novel Ensemble Learning System for Cyberattack Classification

Nowadays,IT systems rely mainly on artificial intelligence(AI)algorithms to process *** is generally used to extract knowledge from stored information and,depending on the nature of data,it may be necessary to apply different AI *** this article,a novel perspective on the use of AI to ensure the cybersecurity through the study of network traffic is *** is done through the construction of a two-stage cyberattack classification ensemble model addressing class imbalance following a one-vs-rest(OvR)*** the growing trend of cyberattacks,it is essential to implement techniques that ensure legitimate access to *** address this issue,this work proposes a network traffic classification system for different categories based on several AI *** the first task,binary models are generated to clearly differentiate each type of traffic from the *** binary models generated,an ensemble model is developed in two phases,which allows the separation of legitimate and illegitimate traffic(phase 1)while also identifying the type of illegitimate traffic(phase 2).In this way,the proposed system allows a complete multiclass classification of network *** estimation of global performance is done using a modern dataset(UNSW-NB15),evaluated using two approaches and compared with other state-of-art *** proposal,based on the construction of a two-step model,reaches an F1 of 0.912 for the first level of binary classification and 0.7754 for the multiclass *** results show that the proposed system outperforms other state-of-the-art approaches(+0.75%and+3.54%for binary and multiclass classification,respectively)in terms of F1,as demon-strated through comparison together with other relevant classification metrics.

The development of zeolites possessing dendritic features represents a great opportunity for the design of novel materials with applications in a large variety of fields and,in particular,in the energy sector to afford its transition towards a low carbon *** the current work,ZSM-5 zeolite showing a dendritic3D nanoarchitecture has been synthesized by the functionalization of protozeolitic nanounits with an amphiphilic organosilane,which provokes the branched aggregative growth of zeolite *** ZSM-5 exhibits outstanding accessibility arising from a highly interconnected network of radially-oriented mesopores(3-10 nm)and large cavities(20-80 nm),which add to the zeolitic micropores,thus showing a well-defined trimodal pore size *** singular features provide dendritic ZSM-5 with sharply enhanced performance in comparison with nano-and hierarchical reference materials when tested in a number of energy related applications,such as VOCs(toluene)adsorption(improved capacity),plastics(low-density polyethylene)catalytic cracking(boosted activity)and hydrogen production by methane catalytic decomposition(higher activity and deactivation resistance).

Optical coherence tomography （OCT） has gained considerable attention in interventional cardiovascular medicine and is currently used in clinical settings to assess atherosclerotic lesions and to optimize stent placement. Artery imaging at the cellular level constitutes the first step towards cardiovascular molecular imaging, which represents a major advance in the development of personalized noninvasive therapies. In this work we demonstrate that cardiovascular OCT can be used to detect individual cells suspended in biocompatible fluids. Importantly, the combination of this catheter-based clinical technique with gold nanoshells （GNSs） as intracellular contrast agents led to a substantial enhancement in the backscattered signal produced by individual cells. This cellular contrast enhancement was attributed to the large backscattering cross-section of GNSs at the OCT laser wavelength （1,300 nm）. A simple intensity analysis of OCT cross-sectional images of suspended cells makes it possible to identify the sub-population of living cells that successfully incorporated GNSs. The generalizability of this method was demonstrated using two different cell lines （HeLa and Jurkat cells）. This work provides novel insights into cardiovascular molecular imaging using specifically modified GNSs.

Unpaved rural roads as source areas of sediment in a watershed of the Brazilian semi-arid region

Approximately 80% of the road network in Brazil is unpaved and shows evidences of a high erosion potential. In the semi-arid Caatinga Biome in the northeast of the country, a monitoring programme has been done for two years in order to analyze runoff and sediment production from unpaved rural roadways and from embankments. Sediment production ranged from 0.30 to 0.92 Mg/ha yr, higher than in undisturbed areas, but generally lower than that reported for unpaved roads in other regions. However,this is a semi-arid area with low rainfall and runoff and, hence, with a limited hydrological connectivity and sediment production. Sediment production on an embankment with no vegetation was around ten times higher than on an embankment with vegetation. On the road surface, annual sediment production(normalized for gradient) in a section with traffic was three times higher than for a road surface without traffic. In addition, events that occurred after roadway maintenance activities generated peaks of sediment concentration of over 5000 mg/L. These results suggest that sediment production from roads and embankments with bare surfaces is at least one order of magnitude higher than in undisturbed catchment areas. Maintenance activity and vehicle traffic contribute to an increase in sediment availability and impact on the sediment concentration, but less intensely on sediment loads, which depend on the runoff magnitude of the events occurring after roadway maintenance. It was also found that the natural vegetation of the semi-arid region potentially captures sediment on roadway embankments; thereby playing an important role in breaking connectivity between the sediment flow from unpaved roads and the natural drainage system of the catchment.

Patients with liver cirrhosis,irrespective of etiology,have increased risk of liver-related and all-cause mortality(1).Also,the severity of cirrhosis determines health *** instance,patients with compensated cirrhosis have a nearly five-fold increased risk of death,while those with decompensated cirrhosis have approximately a 10-fold increased risk compared with the general population(1).Furthermore,the median survival time of patients with compensated cirrhosis is 12 years,while it is only 1.8 years in those with decompensated cirrhosis(2).Moreover,the presence of intercurrent conditions,such as sarcopenia(loss of skeletal muscle mass and function)may also compromise the prognosis of patients with cirrhosis(3).
