Com.aring surgical efficiencies between phacoem.lsification system.: a single surgeon retrospective study of 2000 eyes

AIm. To com.are under sim.lar conditions intraoperative surgical efficiencies m.trics between an active fluidics and a gravity based phacoem.lsification ***: Adult patients who were diagnosed with a cataract that com.rom.sed visual acuity inferior to 20/40 were included in the study. Patients were excluded from.the study if they had a history of severe retinal disorders, clinically significant corneal endothelial dystrophy or history of corneal disease. All phacoem.lsification surgeries were perform.d by a single surgeon. Both phacoem.lsification system. used the 0.9 m. 45-degree aspiration bypass system.Intrepid Balanced tip and the 0.9 m. Intrepid Ultra infusion sleeve. All cataracts were classified using the Lens Opacities Classification System.III, cum.lative dissipated energy(CDE) and aspiration fluids were m.asured in each ***: Totally 2000 eyes were included in the study. Phacoem.lsification was perform.d in 1000(50%) eyes with an active fluid dynam.cs system.and in 1000(50%) eyes with a gravity-based fluidic system. m.an CDE until fracture of the lens was 1.1 and 1.9 percent-seconds and total m.an CDE used was 5.6 and 7.2 percent-seconds using an active fluidics dynam.cs system.and gravity-based fluidic system. respectively(Pm.an aspiration fluids used were 70 m.L using an active fluidics dynam.cs system.and 85 m.L using a gravity-based fluidic system.Pm.d under sim.lar conditions(sam. surgeon, phaco tip and sleeve) with the active fluidics dynam.cs system.required significantly lower CDE and aspiration fluids.

A protocol of polym.rase chain reaction-random.am.lified polym.rphic DNAs (PCR-RAPDs) was established to analyse the gene diversity and genotype identification for clones of Sequoia sem.ervirens (D. Don) Endl. in Chile. Ten (out of 34) clones from.introduction trial located in Voipir-Villarrica, Chile, were studied. The PCR-RAPDs technique and a m.dified hexadecyltrim.thylam.onium.brom.de (CTAB) protocol were used for genom.c DNA extraction. The PCR tests were carried out em.loying 10-m.r random.prim.rs. The am.lification products were detected by electrophoresis in agarose gels. Forty nine polym.rphic bands were obtained with the selected prim.rs (BG04, BF07, BF12, BF13, and BF14) and were ordered according to their m.lecular size. The genetic sim.larity between sam.les was calculated by the Jaccard index and a dendrogram.was con- structed using a cluster analysis of unweighted pair group m.thod using arithm.tic averages (UPGm.). Of the prim.rs tested, 5 (out of 60) RAPD prim.rs were selected for their reproducibility and high polym.rphism. A total of 49 polym.rphic RAPD bands were detected out of 252 bands. The genetic sim.larity analysis dem.nstrates an extensive genetic variability between the tested clones and the dendrogram.depicts the genetic relationships am.ng the clones, suggesting a geographic relationship. The results indicate that the RAPD m.rkers perm.tted the identification of the assayed clones, although they are derived from.the sam. geo- graphic origin.

Dipole (hyper)polarizabilities of neutral silver clusters

At the Douglas-Kroll-Hess （DKI4） level, the B3PW91 functional along with the all-eleclron relativistic basis sets of valence triple and quadruple zeta qualities are used to determ.ne the structure, stability, and electronic properties of the sm.ll silver clusters （Agn, n ≤ 7）. The results presented in this study are in good agreem.nt with the experim.ntal data and theoretical values obtained at a higher level of theory from.the literature. Static polarizability and hyperpolarizability are also reported. It is verified that the m.an dipole polarizability per atom.exhibits an odd-even oscillation and that the polarizability anisotropy is directly related to the cluster shape. In this article, the first study of hyperpolarizabilities of sm.ll silver clusters is presented. Except for the m.nom.r, the second hyperpolarizabilities of the silver clusters are significantly larger than those of the copper clusters.

A m.del for strong attenuation and dispersion of seism.c P-waves in a partially saturated fractured reservoir

In this work we interpret the data showing unusually strong velocity dispersion of P-waves (up to 30%) and attenuation in a relatively narrow frequency range. The cross-hole and VSP data were m.asured in a reservoir, which is in the porous zone of the Silurian Kankakee Lim.stone Form.tion form.d by vertical fractures within a porous m.trix saturated by oil, and gas patches. Such a m.dium.exhibits significant attenuation due to wave-induced fluid flow across the interfaces between different types of inclusions (fractures, fluid patches) and background. Other m.dels of intrinsic attenuation (in particular squirt flow m.dels) cannot explain the am.unt of observed dispersion when using realistic rock properties. In order to interpret data in a satisfactory way we develop a superposition m.del for fractured porous rocks accounting also for the patchy saturation effect.

The success of catalytic schem.s for the large-scale valorization of CO_(2) does not only depend on the developm.nt of active,selective and stable catalytic m.terials but also on the overall process *** we present a m.ltidisciplinary study(from.catalyst to plant and techno-econom.c/lifecycle analysis)for the production of green m.thanol from.renewable H2 and CO_(2).We com.ine an in-depth kinetic analysis of one of the m.st prom.sing recently reported m.thanol-synthesis catalysts(InCo)with a thorough process sim.lation and techno-econom.c *** then perform.a life cycle assessm.nt of the sim.lated process to gauge the real environm.ntal im.act of green m.thanol production from.CO_(2).Our results indicate that up to 1.75 ton of CO_(2) can be abated per ton of produced m.thanol only if renewable energy is used to run the process,while the sensitivity analysis suggest that either rock-bottom.H2 prices(1.5$kg1)or severe CO_(2) taxation(300$per ton)are needed for a profitable m.thanol ***,we herein highlight and analyze som. critical bottlenecks of the *** attention has been paid to the contribution of H2 to the overall plant costs,CH4 trace form.tion,and purity and costs of raw *** addition to providing im.ortant inform.tion for policy m.kers and industrialists,directions for catalyst(and therefore process)im.rovem.nts are outlined.

Biodiesel production from.waste frying oil in sub- and supercritical m.thanol on a zeolite Y solid acid catalyst

Waste frying oil （WFO） is a very im.ortant feedstock for obtaining biodiesel at low cost and using WFO in transesterification reactions to produce biodiesel helps elim.nate local environm.ntal problem.. In this study biodiesel was produced from.WFO in sub- and super- critical m.thanol on a zeolite Y solid acid catalyst. The procedure was optim.zed using a design of experim.nts by varying the m.thanol to WFO m.lar ratio, the reaction tem.erature, and the am.unt of catalyst. Typical biodiesel yields varied from.83 to nearly 100% with m.thyl esters content ranging from.1.41-1.66m.l.L-~ and typical dynam.c viscosities of 22.1-8.2 cE Gas chrom.tography was used to determ.ne the m.lecular com.osition of the biodiesel. The reaction products contained over 82 wt-% m.thyl esters, 4.2 wt-% free acids, 13.5 wt-% m.noglycer- ides, and 0.3 wt-% diglycerides. The transesterification of WFO with m.thanol around its critical tem.erature com.ined with a zeolite Y as an acid catalyst is an efficient approach for the production of biodiesel with acceptable yields.

Helm.oltz Decom.osition of Vector Fields Using an Optim.l Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient Algorithm

In this article, we study num.rically a Helm.oltz decom.osition m.thodology, based on a form.lation of the m.them.tical m.del as a saddle-point problem. We use a preconditioned conjugate gradient algorithm. applied to an associated operator equation of elliptic type, to solve the problem. To solve the elliptic partial differential equations, we use a second order m.xed finite elem.nt approxim.tion for discretization. We show, using 2-D synthetic vector fields, that this approach, yields very accurate solutions at a low com.utational cost com.ared to traditional m.thods with the sam. order of approxim.tion.

m.delling the long-term.geom.rphic response to check dam.failures in an alpine channel with CAESAR-Lisflood

Globally, between 1950 and 2011 nearly 80,000 debris flow fatalities occurred in densely populated regions in m.untainous terrain. m.tigation of these hazards includes the construction of check dam.,which lim.t coarse sedim.nt transport and in the European Alps num.er in the 100,000s. Check dam.functionality depends on periodic, costly m.intenance, but m.intenance is not always possible and check dam. often fail. As such, there is a need to quantify the long-term.10-100 years) geom.rphic response of rivers to check dam.failures. Here, for the first tim., a landscape evolution m.del(CAESARLisflood) driven by a weather generator is used to replicate check dam.failures due to the lack of m.intenance, check dam.age, and flood occurrence. The m.del is applied to the Guerbe River,Switzerland, a pre-Alpine catchm.nt containing 73 check dam. that undergo sim.lated failure. Also presented is a novel m.thod to calibrate CAESAR-Lisflood?s hydrological com.onent on this ungauged catchm.nt. Using 100-year scenarios of check dam.failure, the m.del indicates that check dam.failures can produce 8 m.of channel erosion and a 322% increase in sedim.nt yield. The m.del suggests that after check dam.failure, channel erosion is the rem.bilization of deposits accum.lated behind check dam., and, after a single check dam.failure channel equilibrium.occurs in five years, but after m.ny check dam.failures channel equilibrium.m.y not occur until 15 years. Overall, these findings support the continued m.intenance of check dam..
