Plasma electrolytic formation and characterization of MnWO_(4)/WO_(3) film heterostructures

MnWO_(4)/WO_(3) p-n heterojunction films were fabricated using a one-step method consisting of the plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)of titanium in homogeneous electrolytes containing paratungstate ions and stable watersoluble EDTA-chelated *** influences of the formation current density and W:Mn molar ratio of the electrolyte,which was varied from 1:2 to 2:1,on the composition,morphology,and optical and photocatalytic properties of the resulting coatings were studied.X-ray diffraction analysis,scanning electron microscopy,energy dispersive X-ray analysis,Raman spectroscopy,and ultraviolet diffuse reflectance spectroscopy were used to characterize the formed *** of the W:Mn ratio of the electrolyte,the coatings contained crystalline t-WO_(3) and m-MnWO_(4).Depending on the formation conditions,the optical band gap energies of the composites varied from 2.63 to 3.01 *** largest absorption red shift and lowest band gap energy were observed in the film composite formed in an electrolyte with W:Mn=2:1,at a current density of 0.2 A cm^(−2).Composites obtained in electrolytes with W:Mn ratios of 2:1 and 1:1 exhibited photocatalytic activity in the degradation of rhodamine C and methyl orange dyes in the presence of 10 mmol l^(–1) H2O_(2) under ultraviolet and visible light *** role of hydrogen peroxide in this dye degradation on PEO-coated composites under light irradiation is discussed.

In this work we present a theoretical study on electrons scattering by CH4 in the intermediate energy range. More specifically, we report integral and differential cross sections for electron scattering by CH4 in the （10 - 300） ev range by the Schwinger multichannel method using plane waves as a trial basis set （SMC-PW）. To include exchange effects we have used the Born-Ochkur model. Our aim is to study the numerical stability of the cross sections and our calculated results compared with experimental data and theoretical studies are encouraging.

Paper Analytical Device for the Colourimetric Detection of Alkaline Phosphatase in Serum and Saliva

A paper analytical device (PAD) was developed for the colourimetric estimation of alkaline phosphatase (AlP). AlP catalyzes the hydrolysis of disodium phenyl phosphate (DSPP) to phenol, which then undergoes oxidative coupling with4-aminoantipyrine (4-AAP) producing a reddish brown-coloured quinone imine. The colourimetric reaction tested in solution has been translated onto a PAD for the point of care (PoC) testing of AlP. A uniform colour was obtained in 25 min with the introduction of AlP onto the reagent drop cast paper device. The images obtained by scanning the PAD were processed using ImageJ software. The colour intensity obtained by image processing was proportional to the concentration of AlP present in the sample. AlP in serum and saliva samples were tested using the PAD in the range of 0 to 528 U/l and0 to 187 U/l, respectively. The interference studies revealed that the PAD was selective to AlP in the presence of other biomolecules. The PAD exhibited a limit of detection (lOD) of 3.3 U/l and a sensitivity of 48.36 a.u/log(U/l) for serum AlP and lOD of 1.69 U/l and a sensitivity of 28.5 a.u/log (U/l) for salivary AlP. The PAD showed good agreement with the clinical methods for real samples.

From Simulation to Reality: A Comprehensive Study on the Efficacy of a Rotating Monopolar and Bipolar Radiofrequency System through In-Silico Modeling and Pre-Clinical and Clinical validation

Background: Skin aging is an unavoidable process aggravated by environmental agents. Among other energy devices, non-invasive radiofrequency (RF) technology is widely used for skin tightening and body contouring as it is simpler and more affordable than other technologies that also minimize pain and side-effects. However, most of the current RF devices do not provide automatic skin temperature control and it is difficult to achieve controlled, deep, and harmless thermal increase, so treatment performance and safety is dependent on the operator’s movements and expertise. Objective: To show the potential of numerical simulations for optimizing the design of monopolar and bipolar RF electrodes that are capable of providing homogeneous, deep and controlled heating. Materials and methods: In-silico models were developed and analyzed using Comsol Multiphysics software to simulate the RF effect produced in tissue by rotating monopolar and bipolar electrodes with different geometries from the Sculpt & Shape RF device (Sinclair, Spain), operating at frequencies of 0.5 and 1 MHz. Ex-vivo and in-vivo proof-of-concept tests were carried out to validate the simulations. Finally, treatments were performed on 16 subjects and a total of 78 body areas to assess the clinical results generated by the RF electrodes for skin tightening and body contouring. Results: In-silico studies emulated the superficial and deep dispersion of heat due to the release of RF energy into human skin tissue. The rotating electrodes (monopolar and bipolar) and the selected RF frequency (0.5 and 1 MHz) determined the homogeneity of the thermal distribution, the penetration depth (between 4.37 mm and 25.0 mm) and the heating dynamics (between 30 and 100 seconds to reach the target skin temperature), which were confirmed by ex-vivo and in-vivo tests. In addition, real treatments on facial and body areas using skin temperatures of between 43˚C and 44˚C showed consistent results with good clinical efficacy for

Background High dietary carbohydrates can spare protein in rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss)but may affect growth and ***,a prebiotic,could have nutritional and metabolic effects,along with anti-inflammatory properties in teleosts,improving growth and *** tested this hypothesis in rainbow trout by feeding them a 100%plant-based diet,which is a viable alternative to fishmeal and fish oil in aquaculture *** a two-factor design,we examined the impact of inulin(2%)as well as the variation in the carbohydrates(CHO)/plant protein ratio on rainbow *** assessed the influence of these factors on zootechnical parameters,plasma metabolites,gut microbiota,production of short-chain fatty acids and lactic acid,as well as the expression of free-fatty acid receptor genes in the mid-intestine,intermediary liver metabolism,and immune markers in a 12-week feeding *** The use of 2%inulin did not significantly change the fish intestinal microbiota,but interestingly,the high CHO/protein ratio group showed a change in intestinal microbiota and in particular the beta diversity,with 21 bacterial genera affected,including Ralstonia,Bacillus,and 11 lactic-acid producing *** were higher levels of butyric,and valeric acid in groups fed with high CHO/protein diet but not with *** high CHO/protein group showed a decrease in the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines(il1b,il8,and tnfa)in liver and a lower expression of the genes coding for tight-junction proteins in mid-intestine(tjp1a and tjp3).However,the 2%inulin did not modify the expression of plasma immune ***,inulin induced a negative effect on rainbow trout growth performance irrespective of the dietary *** With a 100%plant-based diet,inclusion of high levels of carbohydrates could be a promising way for fish nutrition in aquaculture through a protein sparing effect whereas the supplementation of 2%inulin does not appear to improve the use of CHO wh
