Corneal collagen cross‑linking epithelium‑on ***‑off:a systematic review and meta‑analysis

Background:The purpose of the study was to determine the advantages and disadvantages of epi-on corneal crosslinking(CXL)techniques compared with standard epi-off ***:We searched MEDLINE and EMBASE for randomized controlled trials(RCTs)and non-randomized studies of interventions(NRSIs)and we evaluated the selected papers according to the Cochrane risk of bias *** considered,as primary outcomes,average Kmax flattening,changes in uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity(UDVA and CDVA);as secondary outcomes,we considered changes in pachymetry values and endothelial cell density(ECD).We also investigated adverse events related to the treatments and treatment ***-analysis was conducted with a fixed or random-effects model using weighted mean difference(MD)with 95%confidence interval(CI)as the effect ***:A total of 15 studies were included and among these 15 trials,9 were RCTs and 6 were NRSIs,but only 4 studies showed no high risk of bias and were included in this *** analysis revealed significant postoperative differences in CDVA(MD=0.07;95%CI 0.04 to 0.10;Pcative differences in UDVA,Kmax,central corneal thickness(CCT)and ECD(P>0.05).Epi-on CXL protocol was found to be significantly less prompt to have risks of delay in epithelial healing(P=0.035)and persistent stromal haze(P=0.026).Conclusion:Epi-on CXL is as effective as epi-off *** for a higher significant improvement in CDVA with current epi-on protocols,our meta-analysis demonstrates that epi-on and epi-off CXL have comparable effects on visual,topographic,pachymetric,and endothelial ***-on CXL has clinical advantages in terms of comfort and avoidance of complications as it reduces the risk of developing delay in epithelial healing and persistent stromal haze.

Optimization of a Single Flash Geothermal Power Plant Powered by a Trans-Critical carbon Dioxide Cycle Using Genetic Algorithm and Nelder-Mead Simplex Method

The usage of renewable energies,including geothermal energy,is expanding rapidly *** low efficiency of geothermal cycles has consistently highlighted the importance of recovering heat loss for these *** paper proposes a combined power generation cycle(single flash geothermal cycle with trans-critical CO_(2) cycle)and simulates in the EES(Engineering Equation Solver)*** results show that the design parameters of the proposed system are significantly improved compared to the BASIC single flash ***,the proposed approach is optimized using the genetic algorithm and the Nelder-Mead Simplex *** pressure,steam turbine output pressure,and CO_(2) turbine inlet pressure are three assumed variable parameters,and exergy efficiency is the target *** the default operating mode,the system exergy efficiency was 32%,increasing to 39%using the genetic algorithm and 37%using the Nelder-Mead method.

Openwork Walls and Their Solar Applicability Range jorge Hernan Salazar Trujillo

The environmental potential of perforated surfaces in the tropics is noticeable. They allow obtaining higher attenuation and spatial dispersion of both direct and diffuse lighting in indoor spaces, whereas in outdoor areas, the openwork elements reduce surfaces temperature and mitigate the characteristic glare of smooth surfaces when exposed to sunlight. Openwork walls have an immense sustainability potential in modern tropical buildings： they limit the solar rays＇ admission, as well as provide an advantageous use of natural light and cross ventilation, but the research on their solar behavior is scarce. In order to obtain suitable levels of solar gain, relationships among shape, proportion, thickness and partitions composing openwork elements must be studied. This research evaluates solar gain in perforated surfaces by defining the ＂solar applicability range＂, a property useful to identify intervals of guidance where a perforated pattern shape will present a definite solar gain, giving valuable input in the geometric design of openwork elements and introducing shade performance in the design of openwork walls. Results give geometric guidelines that allow to widen the solar applicability range of a perforation pattern and to define two perforation features that have impact on the solar performance of perforated surfaces： focalization and solar performance shift.

Presbyopic correction on the cornea

Purpose:The aim of this systematic review was to synthesize and appraise the evidence of the benefits of presbyopic correction on the cornea for visual ***:Comprehensive search was conducted in MEDLINE using keywords like“presbylasik”,“presbyopic refractive surgery”,“corneal pseudoaccommodation”and“corneal multifocality”.We reviewed corrected and uncorrected visual acuities for distance and near(uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA),uncorrected near visual acuity(UNVA),corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA),distance corrected near visual acuity(DCNVA),corrected near visual acuity(CNVA)),along with the refractive outcomes in spherical equivalent(SE)and astigmatism comparing the differences observed between preoperative myopic and hyperopic patients,as well as among ***-one studies met the inclusion and quality *** provides excellent distance and near uncorrected acuities,but with a 17%retreatment and a 5%reversal *** multifocal ablations result in 12%loss of 2 or more lines of CDVA,and a 21%retreatment *** Blended Vision provides excellent UDVA,but with a 19%retreatment *** experiences with Supracor show moderate predictability and a 22%retreatment *** results in 9%loss of 2 or more lines of *** provides excellent UDVA,with only a 1%retreatment rate,but a 6%reversal *** experiences with PresbyMAX provided excellent UNVA and DCNVA,showing excellent predictability and a 1%reversal ***:The findings have implications for clinicians and policymakers in the health-care industry and emphasize the need for additional trials examining this important and widely performed clinical procedure.

Declining metabolic scaling parallels an ontogenetic change from elongate to deep-bodied shapes in juvenile Brown trout

Body shape and metabolic rate can be important determinants of animal performance,yet often their effects on influential traits are evaluated in a non-integrated *** creates an important gap because the integration between shape and metabolism may be crucial to evaluate metabolic scaling ***,we measured standard metabolic rate in 1-and 2-years old juvenile brown trout Salmo trutta,and used a geometric morphometrics approach to extricate the effects of ontogeny and size on the link between shape and metabolic *** evidenced near-isometric ontogenetic scaling of metabolic rate with size,but also a biphasic pattern driven by a significant change in metabolic scaling,from positive to negative ***,the change in metabolic allometry parallels an ontogenetic change from elongate to deep-bodied *** is consistent with the dynamic energy budget(DEB)and surface area(SA)theories,but not with the resource transport network theory which predicts increasing allometric exponents for trends towards more robust,three-dimensional *** addition,we found a relationship between body shape and size independent metabolic rate,with a positive correlation between robustness and metabolic rate,which fits well within the view of Pace-of-Life Syndromes(POLS).Finally,our results align with previous studies that question the universality of metabolic scaling exponents and propose other mechanistic models explaining the diversity of metabolic scaling relationships or emphasizing the potential contribution of ecological factors.

As the 5G ecosystem continues its consolidation,the testing and validation of the innovations achieved by integrators and verticals service providers is of preponderant *** this line,5GASP is a European H2020-funded project that aims at easing the idea-to-market process through the creation of an European testbed that is fully automated and self-service,in order to foster rapid development and testing of new and innovative 5G Network Applications(NetApps).The main objective of this paper is to present the 5GASP’s unified methodology to design,develop and onboard NetApps within the scope of different vertical services,letting them use specific 5G ***,we examine the whole 5GASP process in a tutorial fashion by adopting a specific use case focusing on the integration of a virtual On-Board Unit(vOBU)service that permits offloading processing from the attached vehicle and serving data-access *** demonstrated,the presented workflow permits the agile,rigorous,and safe development,testing and certification of NetApps,which will enable valuable in-network services for 5G and beyond infrastructures.
