Background:Plasticity in response to environmental drivers can help trees cope with ***,our understanding of the importance of plasticity and physiological adjustments in trees under global change is ***:We used the International Tree-Ring Data Bank(ITRDB)to examine 20th century growth responses in conifer trees during(resistance)and following(resilience)years of severe soil and atmospheric droughts occurring in isolation or as compound *** resilience indices were calculated using observed growth divided by expected growth to avoid spurious correlations,in which the expected values were obtained by the autoregressive moving average(ARIMA)*** used high atmospheric vapour pressure deficit(VPD)to select years of atmospheric drought and low annual values of the Standardized Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index(SPEI)to select years with soil *** acquired the sensitivities(i.e.,the slopes of the relationships)by fitting the resilience indices as a function of environmental drivers,and assessed how these sensitivities changed over time for different types of drought events using linear mixed *** also checked whether plasticity in growth responses was sufficient to prevent long-term trends of growth reductions during or after severe *** acknowledge that by focusing on the response of surviving trees from the ITRDB we are potentially biasing our results towards higher resilience,as stand level responses(e.g.,mortality)may result in lowered competition after the disturbance ***:Sensitivities of resilience to VPD and SPEI changed throughout the 20th century,with the directions of these changes often reversing in the second half of the *** the 1961–2010 period,changing sensitivities had positive effects on resilience,especially following years of high-VPD and compound events,avoiding growth losses that would have occurred if sensitivities had remained *** sensitivity changes,resilience

Cholangiocarcinoma(CCA)is a highly lethal malignancy that comprises approximately 15%of all the primary liver tumors and 3% of gastrointestinal *** is often done when the disease is already at advanced stages,resulting in poor *** of risk factors and early diagnosis are the cornerstones for improving *** diagnosis is feasible in the setting of surveillance programs in patients at high risk of CCA such as patients with primary sclerosing ***,surveillance of CCA in this population is hampered by the low diagnostic accuracy of current tumor markers at earlier stages,the difficulties of imaging techniques for the differential diagnosis between benign and malignant biliary strictures,and the need for invasive procedures for diagnostic *** this review we discuss the rationale for surveillance of CCA in high-risk populations,particularly patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis,the recommended tools for surveillance and diagnostic work-up,and future perspectives.

Background:Inbreeding depression can adversely affect traits related to fitness,reproduction and productive *** current research suggests that inbreeding levels are generally low in most goat breeds,the impact of inbreeding depression on phenotypes of economic interest has only been investigated in a few studies based on genealogical ***:We genotyped 1040 goats with the Goat SNP50 *** information was used to estimate different molecular inbreeding coefficients and characterise runs of homozygosity and homozygosity *** detected38 genomic regions with increased homozygosity as well as 8 ROH hotspots mapping to chromosomes 1,2,4,6,14,16 and *** hundred seventeen goats with available records for dairy traits were analysed to evaluate the potential consequences of inbreeding depression on milk *** regions on chromosomes 8 and 25were significantly associated with inbreeding depression for the natural logarithm of the somatic cell ***,these regions contain several genes related with immunity,such as SYK,IL27,CCL19 and ***,one region on chromosome 2 was significantly associated with inbreeding depression for milk ***:Although genomic inbreeding levels are low in Murciano-Granadina goats,significant evidence of inbreeding depression for the logarithm of the somatic cell count,a phenotype closely associated with udder health and milk yield,have been detected in this *** inbreeding would be expected to augment economic gain by increasing milk yield and reducing the incidence of mastitis,which is one of the main causes of dairy goat culling.

Background:Universal vaccination for hepatitis B virus(HBV)and migratory movements have changed the demographic characteristics of this disease in Spain and in ***,we evaluated the characteristics of the disease and the possible differences according to origin(immigrants vs non-immigrants)and access to ***:This is a multicenter cross-sectional study(June 2014 to May 2015)in which outpatients with a positive HBsAg were seen and followed in four Hepatology *** and clinical data and indication and access to treatment were collected in two different regions of Catalonia(Spain)where there are no barriers to treatment due to a comprehensive coverage under the National Health ***:A total of 951 patients were evaluated(48.1%men).Of these,46.6%were immigrants(58.7%of them were born in Africa)and were significantly younger compared to *** proportions of patients with alcohol consumption,being overweight,and other indicators of metabolic co-morbidities were significantly higher in *** the 937 patients receiving HBeAg examination,91.7%were *** HBeAg-positive infection was significantly higher in immigrants(3.9%vs 0.6%,P=0.001)and chronic HBeAg-negative hepatitis was higher non-immigrants(31.7%vs 21.4%,P<0.001).Not only was the proportion of patients who met treatment criteria significantly higher among nonimmigrants(38.4%vs 29.2%,P=0.003),but also the proportion of those with indication of effectively receiving therapy at the time of data collection(83.2%vs 57.8%,P<0.001).Conclusions:The immigrant population with HBV is younger and has a lower prevalence of metabolic co-morbidities and a higher frequency of chronic HBeAg *** having access to care and an indication for treatment,some do not get adequately treated due to several factors including local adaptation that precludes access to treatment.

The Catabacteriaceae is a new bacterial family aerobic, non-sporulating, Gram-positive coccobacillus that is with a unique member： Catabacter hongkongensis is a strictly anphylogenetically related to some clostridial clusters. Little is known of its epidemiology and environmental distribution, but the inclusion of its 16S rRNA gene sequence in GenBank has allowed it to be detected qualitatively. As a first approach for prospective surveys, a real-time polymerase chain reaction （PCR） procedure to identify C. hongkongensis has been developed. The presence of Catabacteriaceae in 29 water bodies subjected to possible human or animal impact has been investigated. Four of them were positive. The results confirm that highly polluted water can contain C hongkongensis.

This paper is focused on the automated synthesis of wideband bandpass filters operating at microwave frequencies and based on electromagnetic bandgap(EBG)*** classical counterpart of such filter consists of a combination of transmission line sections and shunt-connected grounded stubs placed at equidistant *** replacing the transmission line sections with capacitively-loaded lines(a kind of EBG-based lines)exhibiting the same phase shift at the lower cutoff frequency and the same characteristic(actually Bloch)impedance,filter size is reduced and the spurious pass bands can be efficiently *** practice,the loading capacitances are implemented by means of patches,in order to achieve a fully planar filter *** presence of the patches reduces the effective phase velocity of the capacitively-loaded lines,thus providing a slow-wave effect useful for filter ***,due to periodicity,such EBG-based lines exhibit wide stop bands,which are used for spurious *** though such EBGbased filters were previously reported by some of the authors,a systematic synthesis method was not applied for filter *** this paper,the main aim is to demonstrate the potential of aggressive space mapping(ASM)for that purpose,and it will be shown that such filters can be automatically synthesized.

Helicobacter pylori are ubiquitous Gram-negative bacteria with a high estimated level of infection in the world populations, but a majority of the infected persons are asymptomatic. This pathogen has been classified by the World Health Organization as a class I carcinogen and recognized as the causal agent of most peptic ulcers and chronic gastritis that might lead to stomach cancer. Although not all the transmission pathways of these bacteria into humans have been propedy identified, enough data have suggested that the oral-oral or fecal-oral ones are the main infection routes. Helicobacterpylori have been detected in non-treated water and in drinking water, which suggested that water might be an important infection source. As childhood is the critical period of infection, the aim of the present work was to examine the presence of Helicobacterpylori in soil samples from public playing areas of Spanish parks.

Background:In this study,we aimed to investigate the molecular basis of lactation as well as to identify the genetic factors that influence milk yield and composition in *** achieve these two goals,we have analyzed how the mRNA profile of the mammary gland changes in seven Murciano-Granadina goats at each of three different time points,i.e.78 d(T1,early lactation),216 d(T2,late lactation)and 285 d(T3,dry period)after ***,we have performed a genome-wide association study(GWAS)for seven dairy traits recorded in the 1st lactation of 822 Murciano-Granadina ***:The expression profiles of the mammary gland in the early(T1)and late(T2)lactation were quite similar(42 differentially expressed genes),while strong transcriptomic differences(more than one thousand differentially expressed genes)were observed between the lactating(T1/T2)and non-lactating(T3)mammary glands.A large number of differentially expressed genes were involved in pathways related with the biosynthesis of amino acids,cholesterol,triglycerides and steroids as well as with glycerophospholipid metabolism,adipocytokine signaling,lipid binding,regulation of ion transmembrane transport,calcium ion binding,metalloendopeptidase activity and complement and coagulation *** regard to the second goal of the study,the performance of the GWAS allowed us to detect 24 quantitative trait loci(QTLs),including three genome-wide significant associations:QTL1(chromosome 2,130.72-131.01 Mb)for lactose percentage,QTL6(chromosome 6,78.90-93.48 Mb)for protein percentage and QTL17(chromosome 17,11.20 Mb)for both protein and dry matter ***,QTL6 shows positional coincidence with the casein genes,which encode 80%of milk ***:The abrogation of lactation involves dramatic changes in the expression of genes participating in a broad array of physiological processes such as protein,lipid and carbohydrate metabolism,calcium homeostasis,cell death and tissue remo

Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) maps show, in a comprehensive way for expert as well as non-experts, the evolution of the relatively recent past (1965) until the most current image (2005). They help to analyse Barcelona’s city street network and retrace traffic congestion. The changes in the traffic patterns are due to random actions, resulting from individual liberties and voluntary planning, serving the general interest.
