The need for higher data rate and higher systems capacity leads to several solutions including higher constellation size, spatial multiplexing, adaptive modulation and Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA). Adaptive Modulation makes use of the user’s location from his base station, such that, closer users get bigger constellation size and hence higher data rate. A similar idea of adaptive modulation that makes use of the user’s locations is the NOMA technique. Here the base station transmits composite signals each for a different user at a different distance from the base station. The transmitted signal is formed by summing different user’s constellations with different weights. The closer the users the less average power constellation is used. This will allow the closer user to the base station to distinguish his constellation and others constellation. The far user will only distinguish his constellation and other user’s data will appear as a small interference added to his signal. In this paper, it is shown that the Adaptive modulation and the NOMA are special cases of the more general Cluster Modulation technique. Therefore, a general frame can be set to design both modulation schemes and better understanding is achieved. This leads to designing a multi-level NOMA and/or flexible adaptive modulation with combined channel coding.

This work explores the potential of a triple combination of meropenem(MEM),a novel metallo-blactamase(MBL)inhibitor(indole-2-carboxylate 58(InC58)),and a serine-b-lactamase(SBL)inhibitor(avibactam(AVI))for broad-spectrum activity against carbapenemase-producing bacteria.A diverse panel comprising MBL-and SBL-producing strains was used for susceptibility testing of the triple combination using the agar dilution *** frequency of resistance(FoR)to MEM combined with InC58 was *** were sequenced and tested for cross resistance,fitness,and the stability of the resistance *** with the double combinations of MEM plus an SBL or MBL inhibitor,the triple combination extended the spectrum of activity to most of the isolates bearing SBLs(oxacillinase-48(OXA-48)and Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-2(KPC-2))and MBLs(New Delhi metallo-blactamases(NDMs)),although it was not effective against Verona integron-encoded metallo-blactamase(VIM)-carrying Pseudomonas aeruginosa(***)and OXA-23-carrying Acinetobacter baumannii(***).The FoR to MEM plus InC58 ranged from 2.22×10^(-7)to 1.13×10^(-6).The resistance correlated with mutations to ompC and comR,affecting porin C and copper permeability,*** mutants manifested a fitness cost,a decreased level of resistance during passage without antibiotic pressure,and cross resistance to another carbapenem(imipenem)and a b-lactamase inhibitor(taniborbactam).In conclusion,compared with the dual combinations,the triple combination of MEM with InC58 and AVI showed a much wider spectrum of activity against different carbapenemaseproducing bacteria,revealing a new strategy to combat b-lactamase-mediated antimicrobial resistance.

Background:Modern cataract surgery with use of viscoelastics can induce remarkable early spikes of the intraocular pressure(IOP)in patients with *** and Methods:The purpose of this prospective study was to investigate risk factors for an early increase of the IOP following cataract surgery in eyes with end-stage *** cornea phacoemulsification with implantation of a foldable acrylic lens was performed in 25 eyes with end-stage glaucoma(primary open-angle glaucoma including normal tension glaucoma or exfoliative glaucoma)either under topical anesthesia or under general *** eyes with exfoliative glaucoma,trabecular aspiration was performed *** measurements were conducted at the day before surgery,4 hours following surgery and on the first morning following ***:Cataract surgery was performed without *** mean IOP was 18.5± 4.2 mmHg with 2.1± 1.0 topical medications.4 hours postoperatively,mean IOP was 31.3± 11.9 *** eyes with exfoliative glaucoma(n=12)the early postoperative IOP was 28.5± 12.0 mmHg,but without significant difference compared to eyes with POAG(n= 13).The early postoperative IOP showed significant correlation with the maximum IOP in patient’ s history(p=0.014).Conclusions:Patients with late-stage glaucoma can experience considerable early IOP spikes following uneventful cataract surgery,although preoperatively IOP is controlled by topical *** IOP monitoring is recommended at the day of surgery,especially if high IOP values are reported in patient’ s history.

The inclusion of inorganic nanoparticles in biological environments has led to the creation of hybrid nanosystems that are employed in a variety of applications. One such system includes quantum dots (QDs) coupled with the photoactive protein, bacteriorhodopsin (BR), which has been explored in developing enhanced photovoltaic devices. In this work, we have discovered that the kinetics of the BR photocycle can be manipulated using CdSe/CdS (core/shell) QDs. The photocycle lifetime of protein samples with varying QD amounts were monitored using time-resolved absorption spectroscopy. Concentration-dependent elongations of the bR and M state lifetimes were observed in the kinetic traces, thus suggesting that excitonic coupling occurs between BR and QDs. We propose that the pairing of BR with QDs has the potential to be utilized in protein-based computing applications, specifically for real-time holographic processors, which depend on the temporal dynamics of the bR and M photointermediates.

Neurological conditions,including cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease(AD),impose a huge burden on society,affecting millions of people *** addition to genetic factors,recent studies indicate that environmental and experiential factors may contribute to the pathogenesis of these *** life adversity(ELA)has a profound impact on brain function and health later in *** rodent models,exposure to ELA results in specific cognitive deficits and aggravated AD *** concerns have been raised regarding the higher risk of developing cognitive impairments in people with a history of *** this review,we scrutinize findings from human and animal studies focusing on the connection of ELA with cognitive impairment and *** discoveries suggest that ELA,especially at early postnatal stages,increases susceptibility to cognitive impairment and AD later in *** terms of mechanisms,ELA could lead to dysregulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis,altered gut microbiome,persistent inflammation,oligodendrocyte dysfunction,hypomyelination,and aberrant adult hippocampal *** among these events may synergistically contribute to cognitive impairment later in ***,we discuss several interventions that may alleviate adverse consequences of *** investigation into this crucial area will help improve ELA management and reduce the burden of related neurological conditions.

Purpose： The aim of this study was to compare mechanical muscle function in the eccentric/concentric phases of vertical bilateral j.mping in anterior cruciate ligament-reconstructed （ACLR）, elite （ELITE）, and adolescent （ADOL） alpine ski racers and ski cross athletes. Methods： Alpine ski racers/ski crossers （ACLR： n = 12, age = 26.7 ± 3.8 years; ELITE： n = 12, age = 23.9 ± 3.0 years; ADOL： n = 12, age = 17.8 ± 0.7 years; females： n = 6 per group, males： n = 6 per group） performed 5 maximal countermovement j.mps （CMj.） and 5 squat j.mps. The ground reaction forces for each limb were analyzed using dual force plate recording to obtain body center of mass （BCM） velocity, displacement, and power. The eccentric deceleration （ECC） and concentric phases were determined from BCM velocity. CMj.net concentric and ECC impulses were calculated （body mass normalized） along with the peak and mean BCM power and maximal vertical j.mp height. CMj.lower limb stiffness （LLS） was determined by the slope of the ground reaction forces vs. the BCM displacement curve over the ECC phase. Concentric and ECC asymmetry indices were calculated for each leg, and the left vs. right LLS was compared. Outcome measures （reported as mean ± SD） calculated as a 5-j.mp mean were normalized to body mass and compared using an analysis of variance. Results： No between-group differences were found for peak and mean power or j.mp heights. There were no group differences for LLS or net concentric phase impulse, but the net ECC impulse was lower in the ADOL group compared with ELITE skiers （ADOL： 1.33 ± 0.32 Ns/kg; ELITE： 1.59 ± 0.16 Ns/kg; p 〈 0.05）. Although no group differences were found for ECC asymmetry indices, a group × limb interaction was found for LLS （p 〈 0.01）, which was systematically higher in the right vs. the left limb of ADOL skiers （right： 54.1 ± 17.9 N/m/kg; left： 48.7 ± 15.7 N/m/kg;p 〈 0.01）.
