Arctic warming and its influence on East Asian winter cold events:a brief recap

The rate of warming of Arctic surface temperature is about 2–3 times faster than the global mean surface warming. Increases of ice albedo feedback and water vapor as well as moisture intrusion from outside the Arctic all have major roles in this phenomenon. In contrast to this rapid Arctic warming, in recent decades, stronger cold air outbreaks have occurred more frequently during winter in East Asia than were recorded in the 1990s, resulting in severe socioeconomic impacts. A number of related studies have claimed the increased frequency of these stronger cold air outbreaks is linked to the amplified warming in the Arctic through complicated mechanisms. As there are time lags between the observed Arctic warming and East Asian cold weather response at various scales, understanding the entire chain of processes from the Arctic to East Asia has importance for forecasting winter weather in East Asia. There are two pathways linking Arctic warming with East Asian cold weather events. One is the synoptic-scale pathway in the lower troposphere via strengthening of the Siberian High initiated by Ural blocking. The other is the planetary-scale path through the stratosphere via activation of planetary waves and downward propagation, which weakens the polar vortex. This study briefly reviews the current understanding of the linkage mechanisms between Arctic warming and East Asian winter cold weather.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether scorpion extract elicits a neuroprotective effect in 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine(MPTP)-treated mice models, and the genes associated with the therapeutic effects using RNA sequencing(seq)***: This study investigated the changes in interaction between messenger ribonucleic acid(m RNA) expression and deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA) methylation related to the protective effects of scorpion extracts, in the substantia nigra(SN)region of a MPTP-induced Parkinson's disease(PD)***: In this model, scorpion extracts attenuated the motor impairment as demonstrated by the rotarod and open field tests. Scorpion extracts consistently attenuated the decrease of tyrosine hydroxylase(TH) positive neural cells in the SN and striatum of mice. We profiled genomewide DNA methylation using Methyl-Seq and measured the transcriptome using RNA-Seq in murine SN in the following groups: vehicle-treated MPTP-induced PD mice and scorpion extracttreated MPTP-induced PD mice. In total, 13 479 differentially expressed genes were identified in association with the anti-PD effect of the scorpion extract, mainly in the promoter and coding *** them, 47 were negatively correlated downregulated genes. Nineteen genes out of 47 downregulated genes were negatively correlated with the expression of the other 28 genes. Among these genes, SGSM1 was related to dopaminergic neurons including dopamine transporters, TH, dihydroxyphenylalanine decarboxylase, and dopamine D2 ***: This study provides insights into the anti-parkinsonian effects of scorpion extract and reveals the epigenetic targets in its therapeutic mechanism.

We report a rare case of a 74-year-old man with metachronous gallbladder cancer and bile duct cancer who underwent curative resection twice, with the operations nine years apart. At the age of 65 years, the patient underwent a cholecystectomy and resection of the liver bed for gallbladder cancer. This was a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma, with negative resection margins (T2N0M0, stageB). Nine years later,during a follow-up examination, abdominal computed tomography and MRCP showed an enhanced 1.7 cm mass in the hilum that extended to the second branch of the right intrahepatic bile duct. We diagnosed thislesion as a perihilar bile duct cancer, Bismuth type.

＜正＞Tomato（Lycopersicon esculentum） is major fruit vegetable crop;it was grown over 7 100ha in south korea at *** yellow leaf curl virus（TYLCV） disease was spread widely in tomato growing area and caused severe income *** plastic house,Bemisia tabaci which is insect vector of TYLCV was increased faster than Trialeurodes vaporariorum during summer season（after two months breeding,rate of Bemisia tabaci is 68%and Trialeurodes vaporariorum is 32%） and increasing rate of Bemisia tabaci was 680%.When Bemisia tabaci was bred in plastic house with tomato plants infected by TYLCV,viruliferous insect rate was over 50%.In tomato plants which are susceptible to TYLCV,virus symptoms（leaf curl and chlorosis） were appeared 17 days after inoculation with viruliferous Bemisia tabaci however,the tomato plants with resistant capability to TYLCV has no *** gene was detected by PCR（using appropriate detection primer） at both（susceptible and resistant） *** symptoms were expressed in susceptible variety,plant growth and fruit yield were decreased severely. Although symptoms were not appeared in resistant variety,the plant growth and fruit yield were also decreased about 7%～20%.The net photosynthesis of infected tomato plants were decreased at the rate of 78%in susceptible and 61%in resistant varieties at 20 days after infection to TYLCV compared to that of healthy plants.

AIM: To evaluate the nature of the 'learning curve' for laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy (LADG) with systemic lymphadenectomy for early gastric cancer. METHODS: The data of 90 consecutive patients with early gastric cancer who underwent LADG with systemic lymphadenectomy between April 2003 and November 2004 were reviewed. The 90 patients were divided into 9 sequential groups of 10 cases in each group and the average operative time of these 9 groups were determined. Other learning indicators, such as transfusion requirements, conversion rates to open surgery, postoperative complication, time to first flatus, and postoperative hospital stay, were evaluated. RESULTS: After the first 10 LADGs, the operative time reached its first plateau (230-240 min/operation) and then reached a second plateau (＜200 min/operation) for the final 30 cases. Although a significant improvement in the operative time was noted after the first 50 cases, there were no significant differences in transfusion requirements, conversion rates to open surgery, postoperative complications, time to first flatus, or postoperative hospital stay between the groups. CONCLUSION: Based on operative time analysis, this study show that experience of 50 cases of LADG with systemic lymphadenectomy for early gastric cancer is required to achieve optimum proficiency.

Objective： To investigate the adjuvant therapeutic effects of fermented red ginseng（FRG） extract on non-small cell lung cancer（NSCLC） patients treated with chemotherapy. Methods： A total of 60 patients with advanced NSCLC were assigned to two groups using a random number table, i.e., the gemcitabine plus cisplatin（GP） chemotherapy alone group（26 patients） and the FRG ＋ GP chemotherapy group（34 patients）, for 60-day treatment. Patients were then assessed according to the Fatigue Symptom Inventory, Chinese medicine symptoms score, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, Self-Rating Depression Scale, Karnofsky Performance Status Scale, and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Lung. In addition, chemotherapy toxicity and tumor biomarkers were measured. Results： For NSCLC patients after chemotherapy, FRG extract significantly improved the FSI score, CM symptoms score, psychological status, physical conditions, and quality of life and reduced chemotherapy toxicity（P〈0.01）, but the expression levels of carcinoembryonic antigen, cytokeratin-19 fragments, and neuron-specific enolase were not significantly different between the chemotherapy alone and the FRG ＋ chemotherapy groups or between pre-and post-treatments（P〉0.05）. Conclusions： This study demonstrated that FRG extract had an adjuvant effect on advanced NSCLC patients treated with chemotherapy. Further studies with a larger sample size will verify the current findings.

Plummer-Vinson syndrome (sideropenic dysphagia) is characterized by dysphagia due to an upper esophageal or hypopharyngeal web in patients with chronic iron deficiency anemia. The main cause of dysphagia is the presence of the web in the cervical esophagus,and abnormal motility of the pharynx or esophagus is also found to play a significant role in this *** syndrome is thought to be precancerous because squamous cell carcinoma of hypopharynx, oral cavity or esophagus takes place in 10% of those patients suffering from this malady, but it is even more unusual that Plummer-Vinson syndrome should be accompanied by gastric cancer. We have reported here a case of a43-year-old woman with Plummer-Vinson syndrome who developed stomach cancer and recovered after a radical total gastrectomy with D2 nodal dissection.

随着《联合国海洋法公约》的生效,中韩两国都主张以本国领海基线开始至200海里以内的专属经济区,在渔业资源的利用、保存及管理等方面行使主权性权利。但是,由于中韩两国之间海域狭小,产生了专属经济区范围重叠的现实问题。两国经过长时间的外交努力及相互理解和让步,最终缔结了《中韩渔业协定》。在《中韩渔业协定》的实质性利害相关者渔民们看来,所谓的专属经济区制度对他们历史的传统的作业场所做了制约。而对于守护专属经济区的公务员来说,为了保护本国的渔业资源,他们被要求对违法作业的行为进行严正的处罚。因此,现实中专属经济区内渔民们和公务员之间的渔业纷争冲突时有发生。所以有必要确认沿海国在专属经济区内行使刑事管辖权的国际法和国内法的依据,并对中韩两国的具体立法事例进行比较分析,通过合法的公正的管辖权行使而保护公务员的安全和渔民们的经济权。全文共由四部分构成：第1部分梳理依据《联合国海洋法公约》沿海国在本国的专属经济区内拥有刑事管辖权的法律上、理论上的根据。对《联合国海洋法公约》缔结的国际社会背景,专属经济区制度的新设,以及专属经济区内沿海国所行使的主权权利等进行梳理,并据此对沿海国行使的刑事管辖权进行解读。第2部分查看依据《联合国海洋法公约》和中韩两国现实情况制定的《中韩渔业协定》,分析中韩两国在专属经济区内的刑事管辖权的法律、理论上的依据。通过《中韩渔业协定》的缔结背景、适用范围、具体协议内容等,对刑事管辖权的范围和界限进行检讨;紧追权是《联合国海洋法公约》和《中韩渔业协定》中规定的沿海国刑事管辖权实质性行使方法,通过解析与其相关的国际法上的主要案例,在国际法论域,对紧追权行使的条件和界限进行阐述、论证。第3部分对中韩两国与刑事管辖权行使相关的法律、理论上的依据进行比较。对国家刑事管辖权的意义以及中韩两国刑法上规定的刑法的适用范围的相关规定进行分析比较;并对在专属经济区内违反沿海国刑法的案例中行使刑事管辖权的法律依据进行论述。同时对中韩两国间与专属经济区内主权权利行使相关的具体立法内容以及违反该等相关法律制度的具体处罚法规等进行比较。第4部分在对前述问题比较研究的基础上,发现中韩两国专属经济区制度立法上存在的法律冲突问题,并对如何防止作业过程中中韩两国管制公务员和渔民间发生纷争以及强化中韩两国的刑事司法协作等方面提出个人的意见和建议。
