Plasma levels of acylated ghrelin in patients with functional dyspepsia

AIM:To investigate the relationship between plasma acylated ghrelin levels and the pathophysiology of functional ***:Twenty-two female patients with functional dyspepsia and twelve healthy volunteers were recruited for the *** functional dyspepsia patients were each diagnosed based on the Rome Ⅲ *** patients completed a questionnaire concerning the severity of 10 *** acylated ghrelin levels before and after a meal were determined in the study participants using a commercial human acylated enzyme immunoassay kit;electrogastrograms were performed for 50 min before and after a standardized 10-min meal containing 265 ***:There were no significant differences in plasma acylated ghrelin levels between healthy volunteers and patients with functional ***,in patients with functional dyspepsia,there was a negative correlation between fasting plasma acylated ghrelin levels and the sum score of epigastric pain(r =-0.427,P = 0.047) and a positive correlation between the postprandial/fasting plasma acylated ghrelin ratio and the sum score of early satiety(r = 0.428,P =0.047).Additionally,there was a negative correlation between fasting acylated ghrelin plasma levels and fasting normogastria(%)(r =-0.522,P = 0.013).Interestingly,two functional dyspepsia patients showed paradoxically elevated plasma acylated ghrelin levels after the ***:Abnormal plasma acylated ghrelin levels before or after a meal may be related to several of the dyspeptic symptoms seen in patients with functional dyspepsia.

Gyejibokryeong-Hwan improves recovery of injured muscles in mouse model of muscle contusion

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of Gyejibokryeong-Hwan(Guizhifuling-wan, GBH) on muscle injury in a mouse model of muscle ***: C57/BL6 mouse biceps femoris muscles were injured using the drop-mass method and injured animals were treated orally with GBH(50,100, or 500 mg/kg) once a day for 7 d. Open field and treadmill running tests were performed to assess functional recovery from muscle injury. The production of pro-inflammatory cytokines was examined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and Western blotting analysis. Expression of the muscle regeneration biomarkers, myoblast determination(Myo D), myogenic factor 5(Myf5), and smooth muscle actin(α-SMA), in the biceps femoris muscle was investigated at the protein and m RNA level by Western blotting and real time-PCR, respectively. Histological analysis was performed using hematoxylin and eosin staining. Finally, myosin heavy chain production was investigated in differentiated C2C12 myoblasts in the presence of ***: GBH treatment markedly improved locomotion and running behavior. GBH significantly inhibited the secretion of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 into the bloodstream in muscle-contused animals. The levels of Myo D, Myf5, and α-SMA protein and m RNA were significantly up-regulated by GBH in injured muscle tissue. Histological studies suggested that GBH facilitated recovery from muscle damage. However, GBH did not induce the production of myosin heavy chain in ***: Overall, the present study suggested that GBH improves the recovery of the injured muscles in the mouse model of muscle contusion.

Evaluation of SWAT sub-daily runoff estimation at small agricultural watershed in Korea

A study was undertaken for the prediction of runoff flow from 0.8 ha field-sized agricultural watershed in South Korea using Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) sub-daily. The SWAT model with sub-daily configuration predicted flow from the watershed within the range of acceptable accuracy. The SWAT sub-daily simulations were carried out for a total of 18 rainfall events, 9 each for calibration and validation. Overall trend and extent of matching simulated flow for the rainfall events in 2007-2008 with measured data during the calibration process were coefficient of determination ( ) value of 0.88 and Nash and Sutcliffe Efficiency ( ) value of 0.88. For validation, and values were 0.9 and 0.84, respectively. Whereas and values for simulation results using daily rainfall data were 0.79 and -0.01, respectively, that were observed to be out of acceptable limits for the model simulation. The importance of higher time resolution (hourly) precipitation records for flow simulation were evaluated by comparing and with 15 min, 2 h, 6 h and 12 h precipitation data, which resulted in lower statistics with increases in time resolution of precipitation data. The SWAT sub-daily sensitivity analysis was performed with the consideration of hydraulic parameter and was found as in the rank order of CN2 (curve number), ESCO (soil evaporation compensation factor), GW_DELAY (ground water delay time), ALPHA_BF ( base flow alpha factor), GWQMN ( a threshold minimum depth of water in the shallow aquifer required for return flow to occur) , REVAPMN (minimum depth of water in shallow aquifer for re-evaporation to occur) , LAT_TIME (lateral flow travel time) respectively. These sensitive parameters were evaluated at 10% higher and lower values of the parameters, corresponding to 70.5% higher and 23.2% lower in simulated flow out from the SWAT model. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of the planting distance and depth on the power take-off(PTO)load spectrum of a small riding-type transplanter for the optimal design of the *** measure load data during actual planting operation,a load measurement system was developed using a torque sensor,a data acquisition system,and an *** experiments were conducted at four planting distances(26 cm,35 cm,43 cm,and 80 cm)and three planting depths(85 mm,105 mm,and 136 mm)in a field with similar soil *** measured load data were inverted into a load spectrum using rain-flow counting and Smith-Watson-Topper(SWT)*** safety factor of a transplanter according to the planting conditions was analyzed using the converted load spectrum and commercial *** load spectrum for all planting conditions showed torque ratios similar within a high cycle region of 108 to *** torque ratio increased when the planting depth increased and planting distance decreased in the low cycle region under less than 108 *** safety factors of the PTO driving gear and the driven gear increased as the planting distance increased at all planting *** the planting depth decreased at the same planting distance,the safety factor of the PTO gears *** results of this study might provide useful information for a transplanter PTO design considering the working load according to the various planting conditions.

Assessment of colon polyp morphology: Is education effective?

AIM To determine the inter-observer variability for colon polyp morphology and to identify whether education can improve agreement among *** For purposes of the tests, we recorded colonoscopy video clips that included scenes visualizing the polyps. A total of 15 endoscopists and 15 nurses participated in the study. Participants watched 60 video clips of the polyp morphology scenes and then estimated polyp morphology(pre-test). After education for 20 min, participants performed a second test in which the order of 60 video clips was changed(post-test). To determine if the effectiveness of education was sustained, four months later, a third, follow-up test was performed with the same *** The overall Fleiss' kappa value of the inter-observer agreement was 0.510 in the pre-test, 0.618 in the post-test, and 0.580 in the follow-up test. The overall diagnostic accuracy of the estimation for polyp morphology in the pre-, post-, and follow-up tests was 0.662, 0.797, and 0.761, respectively. After education, the inter-observer agreement and diagnostic accuracy of all participants improved. However, after four months, the inter-observer agreement and diagnostic accuracy of expert groups were markedly decreased, and those of beginner and nurse groups remained similar to pre-test levels. CONCLUSION The education program used in this study can improve inter-observer agreement and diagnostic accuracy in assessing the morphology of colon polyps; it is especially effective when first learning endoscopy.

Intracerebral hemorrhage （ICH）, caused by the sudden rupture of an artery within the brain, is a devastating subtype of stroke, which currently has no effective treatment. Intense inflammatory reactions that occur in the peri-hematomal area after ICH are more deleterious than the hematoma itself, resulting in subsequent brain edema and neurologic deterioration. Thus, we developed lipid-coated magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles doped with ceria nanoparticles （CeNPs）, abbreviated as LMCs, which have both potent anti-inflammatory therapeutic effects via scavenging reactive oxygen species and help in increasing the efficacy of magnetic resonance imaging enhancement in the peri-hematomal area. LMCs consist of mesoporous silica nanopartide-supported lipid bilayers, which are loaded with large amounts of CeNPs for scavenging of reactive oxygen species, and iron oxide nanoparticles for magnetic resonance imaging contrast. LMCs loaded with CeNPs exhibited strong anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities in vitro. In the rodent ICH model, intracerebraUy injected LMCs reached the peri-hematomal area and were engulfed by macrophages, which were clearly visualized by magnetic resonance imaging of the brain. Moreover, LMCs reduced inflammatory macrophage infiltration, and thus significantly reduced brain edema. Finally, LMC treatment markedly improved neurologic outcomes of the animals with ICH. Thus, LMC is the first nanobiomaterial that successfully showed theragnostic effects in ICH.

Medial Patella Subluxation after Minor Trauma

Most cases of medial patella subluxation occur under iatrogenic conditions that are often associated with a prior excessive lateral retinacular release procedure. We report a case of medial subluxation following minor trauma with no history of previous lateral release. The abnormality was identified on magnetic resonance imaging and was successfully treated by direct repair of the lateral retinaculum. The recognition and treatment of medial subluxation of the patella without retinacular release can be difficult. Therefore, consideration of multiple causes through careful medical history taking, physical examination, and radiologic examination is needed for accurate diagnosis.
