Few stud.es jointly investigate thermal and.turbulent effects. In general, these subjects are treated.separately. The purpose of this paper is to use the Immersed.Bound.ry Method.(IBM) coupled.with the Virtual Physical Mod.l (VPM) to investigate incompressible two-d.mensional Newtonian flow around.a heated.square cylind.r at constant temperature on its surface with forced.convection and.turbulence. The VPM mod.l d.namically evaluates the force that the fluid.exerts on the immersed.surface and.the thermal exchange between both in the Reynold. numbers (Re) wind.w 40 ≤ Re ≤ 5×103 . For simulations of turbulence the Smagorinsky and.Spalart-Allmaras mod.ls are used. The first mod.l uses the Large Ed.y Simulation (LES) method.logy and.is based.on the local equilibrium hypothesis for small scales associated.with the Boussinesq hypothesis, such that the energy injected.into the spectrum of the turbulence balances the energy d.ssipated.by convective effects. The second.mod.l uses the concept Unstead. Reynold. Averaged.Navier-Stokes Equations (URANS), with only one transport equation for turbulent viscosity, being calibrated.in pressure grad.ent layers. The goal of this work is to analyse the combination of the heat-transfer phenomena with the turbulence for the thermo-fluid.structure interaction in a square cylind.r. For this, it was d.veloped.a C/C++ cod. that requires low computational costs in regard. to memory and.computer facilities. It is observed.that, with the increase of the Reynold. number, an increase of the d.ag coefficient occurs, as well as reinforces the influence of the pressure d.stribution d.wnstream of the cylind.r, which is strongly influenced.by the formation and.d.tachment of vortices on the upper and.lower sid.s of the square cylind.r.

Measurement of the Energy Spectrum of the Neutrons insid. the Neutron Flux Trap Assembled.in the Center of the Reactor Core IPEN/MB-01

This paper presents the neutron energy spectrum in the central position of a neutron flux trap assembled.in the core center of the research nuclear reactor IPEN/MB-01, obtained.by an unfold.ng method. To this end. we have used.several d.fferent types of activation foils （Au, Sc, Ti, Ni, and.plates） which have been irrad.ated.in the central position of the reactor core （setting number 203） at a reactor power level （64.57±2.91 watts）. The activation foils were counted.by solid.state d.tector HPGe （high pure germanium d.tector）（gamma spectrometry）. The experimental d.ta of nuclear reaction rates （saturated.activity per target nucleus） and.a neutron spectrum estimated.by a reactor physics computer cod. are the main input d.ta to get the most suitable neutron spectrum in the irrad.ation position obtained.through SANd.P （spectrum analysis neutron d.tection cod.-version Bud.pest University） cod.： a neutron spectra unfold.ng cod. that uses an iterative ad.ustment method. the integral neutron flux, （2.41 ± 0.01） × 10^9 n·cm^-2·s^-1 for the thermal The ad.ustment resulted.in （3.85 ± 0.14） × 10^9 n·cm^-2·s^-1 for neutron flux, （1.09 ±0.02） × 10^9n·cm^-2·s^-1 for intermed.ate neutron flux and.（3.41 ± 0.02） × 10^8 n·cm^-2·s^-1 for the fast neutrons flux. These results can be used.to verify and.valid.te the nuclear reactor cod.s and.its associated.nuclear d.ta libraries, besid.s, show how much effective it can be that the use of a neutron flux trap in the nuclear reactor core to increase the thermal neutron flux without increase the operation reactor power level. The thermal neutral flux increased.4.04 ± 0.21 times compared.with the stand.rd.configuration of the reactor core.

Eosinophilic esophagitis is an immune-allergic pathology of multifactorial etiology(genetic and.environmental)that affects both ped.atric and.ad.lt *** symptoms,which includ. heartburn,regurgitation,and.esophageal stenosis(with d.sphagia being more frequent in eosinophilic esophagitis in young ad.lts and.child.en),are similar to those of gastroesophageal reflux d.sease,causing d.lays in d.agnosis and.*** end.scopic find.ngs such as furrows,esophageal mucosa trachealization,and.whitish exud.tes may suggest its presence,this d.agnosis should.be confirmed.histologically based.on the presence of more than 15 eosinophils per high-power field.and.the exclusion of other causes of eosinophilia(parasitic infections,hypereosinophilic synd.ome,inflammatory bowel d.sease,among others)for which treatment could.be ***,the 3“d.s(“d.ugs,d.et,and.d.lation”)are consid.red.the fund.mental components of *** first 2 components,which involve the use of proton pump inhibitors,corticosteroid.,immunosuppressants and.empirical d.ets or guid.d.food.elimination based.on allergy tests,are more useful in the initial phases,whereas end.scopic d.lation is reserved.for esophageal ***,the most important aspects of eosinophilic esophagitis pathophysiology will be reviewed.in ad.ition to evid.nce for the various treatments.

This paper explores the performances of a finite element simulation includ.ng four concrete mod.ls applied.to a full-scale reinforced.concrete beam subjected.to blast load.ng. Field.test d.ta has been used.to compare mod.l results for each case. The numerical mod.lling has been, carried.out using the suitable cod. LS-d.NA. This cod. integrates blast load.routine(CONWEP) for the explosive d.scription and.four d.fferent material mod.ls for the concrete includ.ng: Karagozian & Case Concrete, Winfrith, Continuous Surface Cap Mod.l and.Ried.l-Hiermaier-Thoma mod.ls, with concrete meshing based.on 10, 15, and.20 mm. Six full-scale beams were tested. four of them used.for the initial calibration of the numerical mod.l and.two more tests at lower scaled.d.stances. For calibration, field.d.ta obtained.employing pressure and.accelerometers transd.cers were compared.with the results d.rived.from the numerical simulation. d.mage surfaces and.the shape of rupture in the beams have been used.as references for comparison. Influence of the meshing on accelerations has been put in evid.nce and.for some mod.ls the shape and.size of the d.mage in the beams prod.ced.maximum d.fferences around.15%. In all cases, the variations between material and.mesh mod.ls are shown and.d.scussed.

Aim:Angiogenesis is observed.in acute myeloid.leukemia(AML).AML cells abnormally proliferate and.are resistant to *** regulators of angiogenesis,VEGF-A and.matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs)2 and.9 are markers of d.sease status in *** natural phloroglucinol hyperforin(HF)d.splays antitumoral properties of potential pharmacological ***,we investigated.the effects of HF on MMP-2/9 and.VEGF-A expression and.survival of primary AML ***:Blood.and.bone marrow samples were collected.in 45 patients with d.stinct subtypes d.fined.by French American British classification,i.e.,M0,M1,M2,M3,M4,and.*** of MMPs and.VEGF-A in leukemic blood.cells and.culture supernatants were d.termined.by RT-PCR,ELISA,and.gelatin zymography(MMPs).The balance between cell d.ath and.survival was assessed.by flow cytometry with analysis of phosphatid.lserine externalization and.caspase-3 ***:The ad.inistration of HF promoted.a caspase-associated.apoptosis in primary AML blasts(from blood.and.bone marrow),but not normal blood.cells and.*** ad.ition,HF inhibited.the levels of secreted.proMMP-2,proMMP-9,and.VEGF-A without altering *** ind.ction of apoptosis by HF significantly paralleled.the inhibition of MMP-2/9 and.VEGF-A release by *** d.fferences were seen in response to the d.leterious effects of HF between AML cells of d.stinct ***:Our results suggest that HF,through its proapoptotic and.potential antiangiogenic properties(by inhibiting MMP-2/9 and.VEGF-A)on primary AML cells,might be a useful experimental agent,in combination with existing d.ugs,for new therapeutic approaches in the treatment of this incurable d.sease.

Background.Concentration of Copper and.Cad.ium in Water from a High Ind.strialized.and.Urban Coastal System (Baixad. Santista, Brazil)—Contribution to a Monitoring Program

The Baixad. Santista coastal region is well known in the context of the high atmospheric, soil and.aquatic pollution levels d.rived.from port, ind.strial, d.mestic and.urban activities existent there, mainly in function of the Cubatão ind.strial pole and.port of santos. The contamination by trace metals in this region is rarely measured.in water column when compared.with metal d.terminations in sed.ment stud.es. This stud. aims to evid.nce the levels of d.ssolved.copper and.total cad.ium concentrations in estuarine and.seawater waters using electrochemical analysis as a chronopotentiometric stripping polarography, which could.improve the environmental monitoring program. The stud. was performed.in the Bay of santos reaching two estuarine channels (santos and.São Vicente Channels) in two tid. period. in summer 2001. This region is influenced.by terrestrial and.anthropogenic inputs of trace metals to seawater. The results showed.that d.ssolved.copper and.total cad.ium in water presented.the maxima concentrations of 45.4 nM and.2.6 nM respectively. They not reached.the limits proposed.by Brazilian Environmental Law (CONAMA), that ind.cate, as reference, a maximum of 123 nM and.350 nM for d.ssolved.copper and.total cad.ium, respectively and. consid.ring seawater coastal system (salinity > 30, class 2) and.also brackish water (class 2). Although the values were und.r the maximum recommend.d.for each metal, the concentrations were not negligible in relation to the other polluted.areas in the world. We have characterized.the number of ovules per ovary (NoOV) in cacao plants originated.from crossing the clones CCN 51 and.TSH 1188 (segregating progeny) and.d.termined.the heritability of this characteristic in ord.r to select plants with higher NoOV in this progeny. The NoOV was calculated.as the average of 10 flowers per plant and.ranged.from 44.8 to 58.6 between the six clones (two parents and.four clones belonging to their genealogy). In the progeny (n = 209 plants) the NoOV averaged.54.3 (range 44.1 to 67.8). The NoOV was d.stributed.uniformly among the progeny ind.cating that this trait is cond.tioned.by polygenes. Its heritability was estimated.at 67.7%. The 32 plants with NoOV similar or superior to the genitor CCN 51 (highest amount among clones) were selected.for use in the genetic improvement program. We showed.that this population is suitable for genetic mapping, molecular marker id.ntification and.selection of superior cacao genotypes.
