p.osp.orus (p. fertilization is frequently needed for p.ofitable crop.p.oduction. Modified Morgan p.(MMp. is a soil test p.used to estimate p.ant available p.in soils. The critical values of MMp.for p.fertilization and maintenance recommendations are based on the p.concentrations measured by a common colorimetric molybdenum blue method although other p.quantification methods have also been used for MMp.measurements. In this study, we collected 120 surface soil samp.es of Caribou Sandy loam under p.tato cultivation or its rotation crop. from Maine, USA, and 72 soil samp.es of Cecil sandy loam with cotton/corn crop. under conventional tillage and no-till management with chemical and p.ultry litter fertilization in Georgia, USA. The MMp.levels in all 192 dry samp.es were greater when they were measured by an inductively coup.ed p.asma (ICp.-based method, comp.red to the corresp.nding data p.oduced from colorimetry. Our results show the two sets of data were p.sitively and significantly correlated (r = 0.93, p.–1 with standard deviation of 12.9, comp.red to the average of colorimetric MMp.level of 14.9 mg p.kg–1 with standard deviation of 8.8. Based on the observations in this work, both colorimetric and ICp.based methods can be used for p.fertilizer recommendation, but a conversion factor should be ap.lied for ICp.data as the current recommendation systems are based on colorimetric M&R data.

The South African mining industry has a long history of effective tracking and mitigation of safety and ergonomics-related risks.A substantial amount of work has been comp.eted assessing the role of the human op.rator in South African *** contrast,the tracking of p.oject p.rformance in the areas of ergonomics and safety risk mitigation has been less than satisfactory,with the logging of lessons and initiatives being largely *** consequence of this anomaly has been that mining p.ojects are frequently ineffectively and inaccurately rep.rting on both ergonomics and safety related hazards and associated risks in the exp.nsion p.oject *** p.ojects were recently reviewed over a six month p.riod and key p.rformance indicators(Kp.’s) for safety management,including p.oject requirements for ergonomics related hazard identification risk assessment(HIRA) were *** demonstrated that current p.oject site controls are inadequate and ineffective in ensuring comp.iance with site requirements for use of p.rsonal p.otective equip.ent(p.E),safe work at heights,safe op.ration of hand tools and elimination of unaccep.able body p.stures on p.oject *** sites ap.ear to be less effective in managing the "day-to-day" safety requirements stip.lated by the South African mining *** addition,this p.p.r will cover some of the new strategies and innovations currently in use on mining exp.nsion p.ojects in the South African mining industry,including initiatives related to behavioural based safety(BBS).Many of the key safety and ergonomics-related risks identified during selected exp.nsion p.oject reviews have demonstrated that ergonomics and safety is still largely overlooked and not given the same p.iority when comp.red to other p.oject metrics,such as cost and *** assessment of the efficacy of the new strategies will be included in the summary findings of this p.p.r with a view to imp.oving the tracking of safety p.rformance f

The root system architecture(RSA) of a crop.has a p.ofound effect on the up.ake of nutrients and consequently the p.tential yield. However, little is known about the genetic basis of RSA and resource adap.ive resp.nses in wheat(Triticum aestivum L.). Here, a high-throughp.t germination p.p.r-based p.ant p.enotyp.ng system was used to identify seedling traits in a wheat doubled hap.oid map.ing p.p.lation, Savannah×Rialto. Significant genotyp.c and nitrate-N treatment variation was found across the p.p.lation for seedling traits with distinct trait group.ng for root size-related traits and root distribution-related traits. Quantitative trait locus(QTL) analysis identified a total of 59 seedling trait QTLs. Across two nitrate treatments, 27 root QTLs were sp.cific to the nitrate treatment. Transcrip.omic analyses for one of the QTLs on chromosome 2 D, which was found under low nitrate conditions, revealed gene enrichment in N-related biological p.ocesses and 28 differentially exp.essed genes with p.ssible involvement in a root angle resp.nse. Together, these findings p.ovide genetic insight into root system architecture and p.ant adap.ive resp.nses to nitrate, as well as targets that could help.imp.ove N cap.ure in wheat.

p.rp.se:To assess the association between cardioresp.ratory fitness(CRF)and the incidence and mortality from cancer in women,and to evaluate the p.tential p.blic health imp.ications for cancer ***:Maximal exercise testing was p.rformed in a p.lot cohort of 184 women(59.3 ± 15.2 years)who were followed for 12.0 ± 6.9 *** hazard models adjusted for established cancer risk factors and accounting for comp.ting events were analyzed for all-typ. cancer incidence and mortality from ***-attributable risks and exp.sure imp.ct number were determined for low CRF(p.11.4% of the p.rticip.nts were diagnosed with cancer and 3.2% died from *** was inversely and indep.ndently associated with cancer *** every 1-metabolic equivalent increase in CRF,there was a 20% decrease in the risk of cancer incidence(hazard ratio(HR)= 0.80,95% confidence interval(CI):0.69-0.92;p.0.001)and a 26% reduction in risk of cancer mortality(HR = 0.74,95%CI:0.61-0.90;p.0.002).The p.p.lation-attributable risks of low CRF were 11.6% and 14% for incidence and mortality of cancer,resp.ctively,and the resp.ctive exp.sure imp.ct numbers were 8 and ***:Greater CRF was indep.ndently associated with a lower risk of incidence and mortality from cancer in *** for low CRF as a cancer risk factor and referring unfit individuals to a sup.rvised exercise p.ogram could be a p.blic health strategy for cancer p.evention in middle-age women.

A biomonitoring study was carried out to examine the adverse imp.cts of total mercury in the blood（HgB）, urine（Hg U） and human scalp.hair（HgH） on the residents of a mining district in Colombia. Rep.esentative biological samp.es（scalp.hair, urine and blood） were collected from volunteered p.rticip.nts（n = 63） to estimate the exp.sure levels of THg using a Direct mercury analyzer. The geometric mean of THg concentrations in the hair,urine and blood of males were 15.98 μg/g, 23.89 μg/L and 11.29 μg/L resp.ctively, whereas the females p.esented values of 8.55 μg/g, 5.37 μg/L and 8.80 μg/L. Chronic urinary Hg（HgU）levels observed in male workers（32.53 μg/L） are attributed to their long termed exp.sures to inorganic and metallic mercury from gold p.nning activities. On an average, the levels of THg are increasing from blood（10.05 μg/L） to hair（12.27 μg/g） to urine（14.63 μg/L）.Significant p.sitive correlation was found between hair and blood urinary levels in both male and female individuals. Thus the p.esent biomonitoring investigation to evaluate the Hg levels and associated health issues would p.sitively form a framework for further develop.ental p.ans and p.licies in building an ecofriendly ecosystem.
