Surface-anchored metal-organic frameworks(surMOFs)integrate nanoporous supramolecular MOF materials directly into architectures for applications such as gas storage,chemical sensing,and energy ***-by-layer solution-phase deposition of the MOF-14 components(1,3,5-tris(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene and copper(II)dimers,respectively)produces a porous and conformal film on carboxylterminated self-assembled monolayers(SAMs).In this research,the formation of ultrathin(less than 25 nm)surMOF films on codeposited bicomponent SAMs and microcontact printed SAMs is investigated by atomic force microscopy,ellipsometry,infrared spectroscopy,and contact angle *** composed of methyl-terminated alkanethiols assembled on gold substrates inhibit surMOF formation,whereas carboxyl-terminated alkanethiols promote MOF-14-based film *** tune the density of carboxyl groups that anchor the film,methyl-and carboxylterminated alkanethiols of varying concentrations are codeposited on *** systematic study demonstrates how surMOF film formation and morphology are impacted by these SAMs with mixed surface *** patterning methods for SAMs,such as microcontact printing(μCP),commonly have mixed chemical functionalities within certain regions of the *** gained regarding how mixed surface functionalities affect surMOF film formation are applied herein to optimize theμCP method to produce chemically patterned SAMs that selectively direct surMOF assembly to produce high-quality surMOF film features.

we develop a generalization of Nesterov’s accelerated gradient descent method which is designed to deal with orthogonality *** demonstrate the effectiveness of our method,we perform numerical experiments which demonstrate that the number of iterations scales with the square root of the condition number,and also compare with existing state-of-the-art quasi-Newton methods on the Stiefel *** experiments show that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art quasi-Newton methods on some large,ill-conditioned problems.

Since the publication of the DRiP(defective ribosomal product) hypothesis in 1996, numerous studies have addressed the contribution of DRiPs to generating viral antigenic peptides for CD8^+T cell immunosurveillance. Here, we review studies characterizing the generation of antigenic peptides from influenza A virus encoded DRiPs, discuss the many remaining mysteries regarding the nature of their co-translational generation, and speculate on where the future might lead.

we investigate a set of well-posed interface conditions of viscous fluxes of Navier–Stokes equations,extend them to three-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations and successfully study a temporally turbulent mixing *** evolution of a large vortex structure and the non-dimensional statistical quantities in the mixing layer are numerically *** span-wise energy spectrum of the mixing layer exhibits wide band features,which means that the simulation generates the desired amount of small *** results show that too many small scales are present due to insufficient dissipation and the amount of large scales is low,indicating too much dissipation for large-scale structures.

Human exposures to pesticides can occur in the workplace,in the household and through the ambient *** several articles have reviewed the impact of pesticide exposures on human respiratory health in occupational settings,to the best of our knowledge,this article is the first one to review published studies on the association between pesticide exposures and human respiratory health in the general *** this article,we critically reviewed evidences up to date studying the associations between non-occupational pesticide exposures and respiratory health in general *** article also highlighted questions arising from these studies,including our recent analyses using the data from the Canadian Health Measures Survey（CHMS）,for future *** found few studies have addressed the impact of environmental pesticide exposures on respiratory health,especially on lung function,in general *** the studies using the data from CHMS Cycle 1,exposures to OP insecticides,pyrethroid insecticides,and the organochlorine pesticide DDT were associated with impaired lung function in the Canadian general population,but no significant associations were observed for the herbicide 2,*** research should focus on the potential age-specific and pesticide-specific effect on respiratory health in the general population,and repeated longitudinal study design is critical for assessing the temporal variations in pesticide *** findings from current studies of non-occupational pesticide exposures and their health impact in general population will help to improve the role of regulatory policies in mitigating pesticide-related public health problems,and thereafter providing greater benefit to the general population.

we introduce a new algorithm,extended regularized dual averaging(XRDA),for solving regularized stochastic optimization problems,which generalizes the regularized dual averaging(RDA)*** main novelty of the method is that it allows a flexible control of the backward step *** instance,the backward step size used in RDA grows without bound,while for XRDA the backward step size can be kept *** demonstrate experimentally that additional control over the backward step size can speed up the convergence of the algorithm while preserving desired properties of the iterates,such as ***,we show that the XRDA method achieves the same convergence rate as RDA for general convex objectives.

Municipal solid waste(MSw)management has emerged as probably the most pressing issue many governments nowadays are ***,waste-to-Energy(wtE)is mostly associated with incineration,but now,with the emergence of the bioeconomy,it embraces a broader definition comprising any processing technique that can generate electricity/heat or produce a waste-derived *** the ambit of the circular economy many nations are looking for,additional effort must be made to be sure of acquiring the most updated information and paving a sustainable path for managing MSw in such a *** this regard,we have undertaken a critical review of various technologies,with their updated progress,involved in the exploitation of MSw as a renewable resource,along with the critical advantages and limitations on energy and material cycling for sustainable MSw ***,the most widely used method,is nowadays difficult to further apply due to its dubious reputation and social ***,to address the organic fraction of MSw which currently is mostly unrecycled and causes disposal issues,the biological approach presents an attractive *** new emphasis of bioeconomy leads us to understand how environmental biotechnologies should be better connected/integrated for more sustainable MSw *** article is concluded with advances of future prospects,which can serve as a timely reminder to encourage competent authorities/researchers to work towards further improvement of the present MSw management system.

Full noncontact laser ultrasound(LUS)imaging has several distinct advantages over current medical ultrasound(US)technologies:elimination of the coupling mediums(gel/water),operator-independent image quality,improved repeatability,and volumetric *** light-based ultrasound utilizing tissue-penetrating photoacoustics(PA)generally uses traditional piezoelectric transducers in contact with the imaged tissue or carries an optical fiber detector close to the imaging *** PA,the LUS design presented here minimizes the optical penetration and specifically restricts optical-to-acoustic energy transduction at the tissue surface,maximizing the generated acoustic source *** an appropriate optical design and interferometry,any exposed tissue surfaces can become viable acoustic sources and *** operates analogously to conventional ultrasound but uses light instead of piezoelectric ***,we present full noncontact LUS results,imaging targets at~5 cm depths and at a meterscale standoff from the target *** results demonstrating volumetric imaging and the first LUS images on humans are presented,all at eye-and skin-safe optical exposure *** progression of LUS imaging from tissue-mimicking phantoms,to excised animal tissue,to humans in vivo is shown,with validation from conventional ultrasound *** LUS system design insights and results presented here inspire further LUS development and are a significant step toward the clinical implementation of LUS.

Metasurfaces are ultrathin optical elements that are highly promising for constructing lightweight and compact optical *** their practical implementation,it is imperative to maximize the metasurface *** optimization provides a pathway for pushing the limits of metasurface efficiency;however,topology optimization methods have been limited to the design of microscale devices due to the extensive computational resources that are *** introduce a new strategy for optimizing large-area metasurfaces in a computationally efficient *** stitching together individually optimized sections of the metasurface,we can reduce the computational complexity of the optimization from high-polynomial to *** a proof of concept,we design and experimentally demonstrate large-area,high-numerical-aperture silicon metasurface lenses with focusing efficiencies exceeding 90%.These concepts can be generalized to the design of multifunctional,broadband diffractive optical devices and will enable the implementation of large-area,high-performance metasurfaces in practical optical systems.
