Use of machine learning models for the prognostication of liver transplantation: A systematic review

BACKGROUND Liver transplantation(lt)is a life-saving intervention for patients with end-stage liver ***,the equitable allocation of scarce donor organs remains a formidable *** tools are pivotal in identifying the most suitable transplant ***,scoring systems like the model for end-stage liver disease have been instrumental in this ***,the landscape of prognostication is undergoing a transformation with the integration of machine learning(ML)and artificial intelligence *** To assess the utility of ML models in prognostication for lt,comparing their performance and reliability to established traditional scoring *** Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines,we conducted a thorough and standardized literature search using the PubMed/MEDLINE *** search imposed no restrictions on publication year,age,or *** criteria encompassed non-English studies,review articles,case reports,conference papers,studies with missing data,or those exhibiting evident methodological *** Our search yielded a total of 64 articles,with 23 meeting the inclusion *** the selected studies,60.8%originated from the United States and China *** one pediatric study met the ***,91%of the studies were published within the past five *** models consistently demonstrated satisfactory to excellent area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values(ranging from 0.6 to 1)across all studies,surpassing the performance of traditional scoring *** forest exhibited superior predictive capabilities for 90-d mortality following lt,sepsis,and acute kidney injury(AKI).In contrast,gradient boosting excelled in predicting the risk of graft-versus-host disease,pneumonia,and *** This study underscores the potential of ML models in guiding decisions related to allograft allocation and lt,mark

BACKGROUND With an ongoing demand for transplantable organs,optimization of donor management protocols,specifically in trauma populations,is important for obta-ining a high yield of viable organs per *** management of brain-dead potential organ donors(BPODs)is controversial,leading to heterogeneous clinical management *** studies have shown that when levo-thyroxine was combined with other treatments,including steroids,vasopressin,and insulin,BPODs had better organ recovery and survival outcomes were increased for transplant *** To determine if levothyroxine use in combination with steroids in BPODs increased the number of organs donated in trauma *** A retrospective review of adult BPODs from a single level 1 trauma center over ten years was *** criteria included patients who were not solid organ donors,patients who were not declared brain dead(donation after circulatory death),and patients who did not receive steroids in their hospital *** and steroid administration,the number of organs donated,the types of organs donated,and demographic information were *** analyses were performed with Plt group)vs 19(22%)receiving steroids without levothyroxine(ST group).No differences were observed between the groups for gender,race,pertinent injury factors,age,or other hormone therapies used(P>0.05).In the ST/lt group,68.1%(n=47)donated a high yield(3-5)of organ types per donor compared to 42.1%(n=8)in the ST group(P=0.038).There was no difference in the total number of organ types donated between the groups(P=0.068).CONCLUSION This study suggests that combining levothyroxine and steroid administration increases high-yield organ donation per donor in BPODs in the trauma patient *** to this study include

dAIMTo evaluate the diagnostic value of dobutamine stress echocardiography （DSE） and myocardial perfusion sci-ntigraphy （MPS） in predicting coronary artery disease （CAD） in cirrhotic patients listed for liver transplanta-tion （lt）, using invasive coronary angiography （ICA） as *** of studies was based on Medical Subject Headings and Health Sciences Descriptors, which were combined using Boolean operators. In the fnal analysis, 10 references for DSE and 10 for MPS were included. Employment and Patient Satisfaction after Liver Transplantation

Background and Aims:This study serves to revisit the effects of liver transplantation(lt)on employment in an era of improving survival outcomes post-transplant,and to identify areas of improvement in the transplant process to better optimize post-lt employment and patient ***:Prospectively,patients who had undergone lt at a single tertiary lt center were surveyed in person and by *** outcomes included employment rate pre-and post-lt,annual salary,weekly hours worked,barriers to re-employment,and patient ***:Responses were collected and analyzed from 121 patients who underwent ***-lt,68(56.1%)reported full-time employment,13(10.7%)part-time employment,and 40(33.1%)***-lt,26(21.4%)reported continued full-time employment,18(14.9%)part-time employment,and 77(63.6%)*** weekly work hours decreased post-lt(16.1 h/week vs.39.9 h/week).Mean annual salaries decreased post-lt(17 earning salary≥$40,000 vs.56 earning salary≥$40,000).These outcomes differed from patient pre-lt expectations,with 81.0%of previously employed patients believing they would return to employment,resulting in decreased patient *** working physically demanding jobs pre-lt were less likely to return to *** cited for lack of return to full employment included early fatigue and difficulty regaining physical ***:Re-employment rates remain low post-lt,which is particularly true for patients working physically active *** is a significant barrier to re-employment and increased physical rehabilitation post-lt may prove to be *** should be given realistic expectations about return to employment prior to their lt.

Confocal Raman microscopy is currently used for label-free optical sensing and imaging within the biological,engineering,and physical sciences as well as in ***,currently these methods have limitations,including their low spatial resolution and poor focus stability,that restrict the breadth of new *** paper now introduces differential-confocal controlled Raman microscopy as a technique that fuses differential confocal microscopy and Raman spectroscopy,enabling the point-to-point collection of three-dimensional nanoscale topographic information with the simultaneous reconstruction of corresponding chemical *** microscope collects the scattered Raman light together with the Rayleigh light,both as Rayleigh scattered and reflected light(these are normally filtered out in conventional confocal Raman systems).Inherent in the design of the instrument is a significant improvement in the axial focusing resolution of topographical features in the image(to^1 nm),which,when coupled with super-resolution image restoration,gives a lateral resolution of 220 *** using differential confocal imaging for controlling the Raman imaging,the system presents a significant enhancement of the focusing and measurement accuracy,precision,and stability(with an antidrift capability),mitigating against both thermal and vibrational *** also demonstrate an improved scan speed,arising as a consequence of the nonaxial scanning mode.

In this work,an electrochemical paper-based aptasensor was fabricated for label-free and ultrasensitive detection of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)by employing anti-EGFR aptamers as the bio-recognition *** device used the concept of paper-folding,or origami,to serve as a valve between sample introduction and detection,so reducing sampling volumes and improving operation ***-functionalized graphene(NH 2-GO)/thionine(THI)/gold particle(AuNP)nanocomposites were used to modify the working electrode not only to generate the electrochemical signals,but also to provide an environment conducive to aptamer *** characterization revealed that the formation of an insulating aptamer–antigen immunocomplex would hinder electron transfer from the sample medium to the working electrode,thus resulting in a lower *** experimental results showed that the proposed aptasensor exhibited a linear range from 0.05 to 200 ngmL^(−1)(R^(2)=0.989)and a detection limit of 5pgmL^(−1) for *** analytical reliability of the proposed paper-based aptasensor was further investigated by analyzing serum samples,showing good agreement with the gold-standard enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
