We recently reported our detection of an anthropoid primate-specific,adrenal androgen-dependent,“kill switch”tumor suppression mechanism that is triggered by the inactivation of the p53 tumor *** mechanism reached its highest expression only in humans as a result of the human-specific harnessing of fire,which resulted in an extraordinary increase in exposure to polycyclic aromatic ***“kill switch”becomes inoperative in modern humans once they exceed the primitive human lifespan of 25-30 years,because lifespan has more than tripled in modern times,but the secretion curve for dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate remains fixed at the level required for the primitive human *** of this“kill switch”are consequently usurped by human tumors,and these are already targets for inhibition in cancer ***,we suggest a different strategy:using the usurped components of the kill switch to activate prodrugs,rather than as targets for *** strategy is in its infancy,but has the potential to enable more tumor-specific cytotoxicity,which the inhibition strategy generally cannot *** of the usurpation of kill switch elements in liquid biopsy analyses enables the collection of information relevant to this new class of tumor biomarkers without the necessity of invasive tissue biopsy.

co-Al-W-0.1B superalloys have been isothermally oxidized at 900℃ for 1000,5000 and 10000 h in order to investigate their oxidation *** oxide layers and morphologies were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy combined with energy-dispersive ***1000 h exposure,a co3W/γ zone,an Al2O3layer,a mixture of co,Al,W oxides layer and a coO layer are established on the substrate *** extended oxidation,a discontinuous Al2O3layer in co-9Al-8W-0.1B and co-9Al-9W-0.1B alloys leads to an additional mixed oxide layer on the substrate instead of the co3W/γ *** oxide layers that form on the co-9Al-8W-0.1B and co-9Al-9W-0.1B alloys are much thicker than those on the co-9Al-11W-0.1B alloy,and continuously thicken during *** higher content of W is beneficial to improving the oxidation resistance as it facilitates a faster formation of co3Was well as Al2O3.

Effect of opioid dependence or abuse on opioid utilization after shoulder arthroplasty

AIM To examine whether opioid dependence or abuse has an effect on opioid utilization after anatomic or reverse total shoulder arthroplasty(TSA).METHODS All anatomic TSA(IcD-9 81.80) and reverse shoulder arthroplasty(RSA)(IcD-9 81.88) procedures from 2007 to 2015 were queried from within the Humana claims database utilizing the Pearl Diver supercomputer(colorado Springs, cO). Study groups were formed based on the presence or absence of a previous history of opioid dependence(IcD-9 304.00 and 304.03) or abuse(IcD-9 305.50 and 305.53). Opioid utilization among the groups was tracked monthly up to 1 year post-operatively utilizing National Drug codes. A secondary analysis was performed to determine risk factors for pre-operative opioid dependence or *** Two percent of TSA(157 out of 7838) and 3% of RSA(206 out of 6920) patients had a history of opioid dependence or abuse. For both TSA and RSA, opioid utilization was significantly higher in opioid dependent patients at all post-operative intervals(P cidence of opioid use among groups was similar within the first post-operative month. After TSA, opioid dependent patients were over twice as likely to fill opioid prescriptions during the post-operative months 1-12. Following RSA, opioid dependent patients were over 3 times as likely to utilize opioids from months 3-12. Age less than 65 years, history of mood disorder, and history of chronic pain were significant risk factors for pre-operative opioid dependence/abuse in patients who underwent TSA or *** Following shoulder arthroplasty, opioid use between opioid-dependent and non-dependent patients is similar within the first post-operative month but is greater among opioid-dependent patients from months 2-12.

We demonstrate 5dB net gain in an erbium-doped tellurium-oxide-coated silicon nitride *** amplifier design leverages the high refractive index and high gain in erbium-doped tellurite glass as well as the ultralow losses and mature,reliable,and low-cost fabrication methods of silicon nitride waveguide *** show that the waveguide platform demonstrates low background propagation losses of 0.25dB/cm based on a ring resonator device with a Q factor of 1.3×10^6 at 1640 *** measure 5dB peak net gain at 1558 nm and>3dB of net gain across the c band in a 6.7 cm long waveguide for 35 m W of launched 1470 nm pump *** per unit length of 1.7 and 1.4dB/cm is measured in a 2.2 cm long waveguide for 970 and 1470 nm pump wavelengths,*** simulations predict that>10dB gain can be achieved across the c band simply by optimizing waveguide length and fiber-chip *** results demonstrate a promising approach for the monolithic integration of compact erbium-doped waveguide amplifiers on silicon nitride chips and within silicon-based photonic integrated circuits.

This study aimed at determining PFAS concentrations in sediments obtained from two important water systems in South Africa,namely,the Roodeplaat and Hartbeespoort *** samples were collected in March and June representing summer and winter *** analytes were extracted using the half-dry alkaline method followed by solid phase extraction and analysed with liquid chromatography-tandem mass *** mean PFASs concentrations in Roodeplaat Dam(0.14 e89.04 ng g^-1)were significantly higher(p=0.016)than in Hartbeespoort Dam(0.03e31.37 ng g^-1).Perfluoro-n-decane sulfonic acid(PFDS),perfluoro-n-heptyl sulfonate(PFHpS),perfluoro-n-nonane sulfonic acid(PFNS)and perfluoro-n-octane sulfonic acid(PFOS)were the most dominant PFASs *** were observed to be generally higher in summer compared to winter,however,the difference is statistically insignificant(p=0.659).The perfluorosulfonic acids(PFSAs)was more dominant than the perfluorocarboxylic compounds,suggesting possible preferential usage of PFSAs in this *** findings were different from reports from china and Korea,which reported long chain perfluorinated carboxylic acids(PFcAs)in sediments as the dominant *** results also revealed that the PFAS concentrations found in the present study were higher than the concentrations found in china,Germany,and Ethiopia but lower than the concentrations detected in the Western cape Province in South Africa.
