Identification and anatomy of oceanic arcs within ancient orogenic belt are significant for better understanding the tectonic framework and closure process of paleo-ocean *** article summarizes the geological,geochemical,and geochronological characteristics of upper crust of Proto-Tethyan Lajishan intra-oceanic arc and provides new data to constrain the subduction evolution of the South Qilian *** intra-oceanic arc volcanic rocks,including intermediate-mafic lava,breccia,tuff,and minor felsic rocks,are distributed along southern part of the Lajishan ophiolite *** and isotopic compositions indicate that the intermediate-mafic lava were originated from depleted mantle contaminated by sediment melts or hydrous fluids,whereas the felsic rocks were likely generated by partial melting of juvenile mafic crust in intra-oceanic arc *** from felsic rocks yield consistent and concordant ages ranging from 506 to 523 Ma,suggesting these volcanic rocks represent the relicts of upper crust of the cambrian intra-oceanic *** with the cambrian forearc ophiolite and accretionary complex,we suggest that the cambrian intra-oceanic arc in the Lajishan ophiolite belt is belonging to the intra-oceanic arc system which was generated by south-directed subduction in the South Qilian Ocean at a relatively short interval between approximately 530 and 480 Ma.

Ophiolites and Intra-Oceanic Island Arc Assemblages of Eastern Australia, New caledonia and New Zealand

Throughout the Phanerozoic the eastern margin of Gondwana and related fragments such as New caledonia and New Zealand that are now dispersed from it grew through the addition of ophiolites and associated intra-oceanic island arc *** how and why this occurred remains controversial with two main competingmodelsreferredtoaseither‘quantum’or‘accordion’*** quantum model envisages continental growth through the additional of discrete intra-oceanic assemblages analogous to contemporary tectonic settings in Taiwan,Timor and Papua New Guinea(aitchison and Buckman,2012).The alternative regards eastern Australia as the type example of a different style of convergent plate margin referred to as an‘extensional accretionary orogeny’(collins,2002).The oldest Phanerozoic ophiolites and intra-oceanic island arc assemblages are of cambrian age and are widely reported from the Lachlan Fold Belt in the eastern Australian states of Victoria and NSW(Spaggiari et al.,2003;Greenfield et al.,2011).Similar rocks are also known from Mount Read in Tasmania(Berry and crawford,1988;crawford and Berry,1992;Mulder et al.,2016),the Weraerai terrane and its correlatives in the New England orogen further east in northeastern NSW(aitchison et al.,1994;aitchison and Ireland,1995)and Queensland,the Takaka terrane in NW Nelson,New Zealand(Münker and cooper,1999)and the Bowers terrane in Northern Victoria Land,Antarctica(Weaver et al.,1984;Münker and crawford,2000;Rocchi et al.,2011;Palmeri et al.,2012).The Late Ordovician saw the development of the intra-oceanic Macquarie island arc(Glen et al.,1998;Glen et al.,2007).This system contains important economic mineral *** way in which these arcrocks developed and were juxtaposedagainst a surrounding suite of Lachlan Fold Belt,eastern Australia remains the subject of investigation(see aitchison and Buckman,2012 for discussion).In a similar area,enigmatic rocks of the Tumut ophiolite also crop out(Graham et al.,1996;Belousova

Upper Darriwilian(Middle Ordovician) Radiolarians and Ostracods from the Hulo Formation, Zhejiang Provicnce, South china

considerable research has been done on the Ordovician marine fossils from South china, including macrofossils such as brachiopods, graptolites, bivalves, trilobites, some microfossils like conodonts and acritarches. However, radiolarians and ostracods that are also important consti- tuents of the Ordovician marine ecosystem have been paid little attention in this region. In this study, ten radiolarians species belonging to four genera and sixteen ostracods species grouped into nine genera were found from the Hulo Formation at the Hengdu Section of the Jiangshan District, west- ern Zhejiang Province, South china. The fossil-bearing strata belong to the graptolite Pterograptus elegans Zone which indicates the Late Darriwilian Age. This radiolarian fauna is the first record of the Middle Ordovician radiolarian body fossils and also the earliest Ordovician radiolarian fauna reported from South china. The occurrence of Beothuka in this fauna extends the stratigraphic range of the genus to the Upper Darriwilian. Reviews of previous literatures suggest that the diversity of Beothuka was greater during the Early Ordovician, and then declined gradually from the Early Ordovician to the Middle Ordovician before its extinction. The co-occurring ostracod fauna belongs to a shallow-water ecotype. This is contrary to the host lithofacies of the ostracod fauna which represent a deep-water environment. Therefore, these ostacods may have been transported from the shallow-water environment, most likely from the Yangtze carbonate platform. If this conjecture is the truth, then the Jiangshan District was near the shallow-water carbonate platform and received its sediments during the Darriwilian. It is still essential to do more work in the future to better understand the ecology of the Ordovician ostracod fanuas and their role in the sedimentary system of South china.

Geochemistry, Geochronology and Lu-Hf Isotopes of Peraluminous Granitic Porphyry from the Walegen Au Deposit, West Qinling Terrane

Walegen Au deposit is closely correlated with granitic intrusions of Triassic age, which are composed of granite and quartz porphyries. Both granite porphyry and quartz porphyry consist of quartz, feldspar and muscovite as primary minerals. WeaMy peraluminous granite porphyry （A/ cNK=1.10-1.15） is enriched in LREE, depleted in HREE with Nb-Ta-Ti anomalies, and displays subduction-related geochemistry. Quartz porphyry is strongly peraluminous （A/cNK=1.64-2.81） with highly evolved components, characterized by lower TiO2, REE contents, Mg#, K/Rb, Nb/Ta, Zr/Hf ratios and higher Rb/Sr ratios than the granite porphyry. REE patterns of quartz porphyry exhibit lanthanide tetrad effect, resulting from mineral fractionation or participation of fluids with enriched F and cI. LA- IcP-MS zircon U-Pb dating indicates quartz porphyry formed at 233±3 Ma. The ages of relict zircons from Triassic magmatic rocks match well with the detrital zircons from regional area. In addition, εHf（t） values of Triassic magmatic zircons from the granite and quartz porphyries are -14.2 to -9.1 （with an exception of ＋4.1） and -10.8 to -8.6 respectively, indicating a crustal-dominant source. Regionally, numerous Middle Triassic granitoids were previously reported to be formed under the consumption of Paleotethyan Ocean. These facts indicate that the granitic porphyries from Walegen Au deposit may have been formed in the processes of the closing of Paleotethyan Ocean, which could correlate with the arc-related magmatism in the Kunlun orogen to the west and the Qinling orogen to the east.

Silurian Sedimentation in the South Qilian Belt: Arc-continent collision-related Deposition in the NE Tibet Plateau?

The South Qilian belt mainly comprises an early Paleozoic arc-ophiolite complex, accretionary prism, microcontinental block, and foreland basin. These elements represent accretion-collision during cambrian to Silurian time in response to closure of the Proto-Tethyan Ocean in the NE of the present-day Tibet Plateau. closure of the Proto-Tethyan Ocean between the central Qilian block and the Oulongbuluke block and the associated collision took place from NE to SW in a zipper-like style. Sediment would have been dispersed longitudinally SW-ward with a progressive facies migration from marginal alluvial sediments toward slope deep-water and deep-sea turbidites. This migration path indicates an ocean basin that shrank toward the SW. The Balonggongga'er Formation in the western South Qilian belt represents the fill of a latest Ordovician-Silurian remnant ocean basin that separated the Oulongbuluke block from the central Qilian block, and records Silurian closure of the Proto-Tethyan Ocean and subduction beneath the central Qilian block. However, alluvial deposits in the Lajishan area were accumulated in a retro-foreland basin, indicating that continent-continent collision in the eastern South Qilian belt occurred at c. 450–440 Ma. These results demonstrate that the Proto-Tethyan Ocean closed diachronously during early Paleozoic time.

＜正＞An investigation of some of the lowermost forearc basin sediments within the Xigaze terrane reveals several interesting new discoveries. Firstly, moderately well preserved Lower cretaceous radiolarians have been extracted from concretionary mudstone lenses preserved amongst the turbidite succession and these fossils can be used to constrain the timing of deposition of rocks located near the base of the terrane.

＜正＞The conglomeratic Dazhuqu and Qiuwu formations are correlative units associated with the Gangrinboche facies of southern Tibet. Rocks of this facies crop out for ＞2000 km along the strike of Yarlung Tsangpo suture zone from west of Mt Kailas （81°E） to east of Namche Barwa （95°E）. As these predominantly coarse clastic rocks record tectonic activity associated with the collision between India and Eurasia their detailed study should further clarify our understanding of this event.

＜正＞The Bangong-Nujiang suture cuts across central Tibet and marks where the Meso-Tethys Ocean that once separated the Lhasa and Qiangtang terranes was consumed by subduction about 150 million years ago. This relatively poorly studied Late Mesozoic suture traverses Tibet meridionally at～32°N. Little is known about this zone although several models speculate on its development. The dimensions and temporal duration of the Meso-Tethys Ocean as well as the timing of its closure are poorly constrained. Some data appear to indicate southward emplacement of these rocks onco the Lhasa terrane, whereas other criteria suggest their northward emplacement onto the Qiangtang terrane. Thus, the polarity of any subduction system associated with closure of this ocean remains indeterrr inate. Few detailed descriptions of rocks in the area exist and models rely on extrapolation from these reports along the entire length of the suture. In the summer of 2002, members of the HKU Tibet Research Group undertook an expedition to Dong Tso, midway along the suture （～84°E）, in order to examine the area and assess its suitability for detailed investigation and more detailed work commenced in summer of 2004, In this area a complete, albeit disrupted, ophiolite succession is particularly well exposed. The suture is marked by a series of steeply dipping south-directed thrust faults. From north to south across the suture, the following lithologies can be observed. The hanging wall at the northern margin of the suture consists of rocks of the southern Qaintang terrane that are thrust southwards over a terrane consisting of thick successions of locally ankaramitic alkaline pillow basalts overlain by limestones/marbles. The presence of rugose corals in the carbonates indicates a Paleozoic age. This terrane is itself thrust southwards over the base （north） of the ophiolite section at a zone of serpentinite-matrix mélange, which is dominated by ultramafic blocks in the footwall.
