Prevalence and associations of non-retinopathy ocular conditions among older Australians with self-reported diab.tes:The National Eye Health Survey

AIM:To determine the prevalence and associations of non-retinopathy ocular conditions among older Australian adults with ***:Multistage random-cluster sampling was used to select 3098 non-indigenous Australians aged 50 y or older(46.4%male)and 1738 indigenous Australians aged 40 y or older(41.1%male)from all levels of geographic remoteness in *** underwent a standardised questionnaire to ascertain diab.tes history,and a clinical examination to identify eye *** determined the prevalence of uncorrected refractive error,visually significant cataract,cataract surgery,age-related macular degeneration,glaucoma,ocular hypertension,retinal vein occlusion and epiretinal memb.ane among those with and without self-reported ***:Participants with self-reported diab.tes had a higher prevalence of cataract surgery than those without diab.tes(28.8%vs 16.9%,OR 1.78,95%CI:1.35-2.34 among non-indigenous Australians,and 11.3%vs 5.2%,OR 1.62,95%CI:1.22-2.14 among indigenous Australians).Diab.tic retinopathy(DR)increased the odds of cataract surgery among self-reported diab.tic indigenous and nonindigenous Australians(OR 1.89,P=0.004 and OR 2.33,Pb.tes for≥20 y and having vision-threatening DR increased the odds of cataract surgery among indigenous Australians with diab.tes(OR 3.73,P=0.001 and 7.58,Pb.tes epidemic,interventions to reduce the impact of diab.tes-related b.indness should include increased cataract surgery services.

Current hepatitis b.treatment guidelines and future research directions

Hepatitis b.virus （Hb.） infection causes a tremendous clinical b.rden across the world with more than half a million people dying annually from Hb. related disease. Significant advances have b.en made in Hb. treatment in the past decade and several guidelines have b.en pub.ished b. professional societies and expert panels. Although these recommendations have b.en valuab.e to help optimize Hb. treatment, there is discordance in treatment criteria and many patients infected with Hb. may fall outside of these recommendations. This paper systematically reviews the natural history of the disease and compares and contrasts the recommendations for initiation of treatment from the various societies. There is also discussion of special groups that require particular consideration and some of the open research questions and future research directions within the field.

Analyzing Virtual World Region Fidelity on Scalab.lity and Simulation Performance

Virtual world simulation offers tremendous potential opportunities to improve, and optimize, individual and collective echelon training for the military. The US Army Research Lab.ratory (ARL) Military Open Simulator Enterprise Strategy (MOSES) project’s charter is to investigate simulation-b.sed training technology for use in military specific training domains. Of particular interest are attrib.tes of virtual worlds such as geographically distrib.ted large-scale trainee support. We have initiated a series of experiments to determine appropriate b.nchmarks for simulator performance and to determine appropriate independent variab.es in order to create a rob.st predictive model that will enab.e virtual world training scenario designers to calculate, a priori, the numb.r of trainees that may synchronously operate in a virtual world. The present paper’s purposes were to determine the effect that virtual world region fidelity had on server performance and determine whether this independent variab.e would b. appropriate for inclusion into our predictive model. We found that region fidelity had a statistically significant effect on the simulator’s processor memory usage b.t had no significant effect on the simulator’s vertical scalab.lity, CPU usage nor network performance. In this paper, we discourse on the purpose of this research, our experimental methodology and results, and discuss the significance of our findings.

Introduction:Pazopanib.is an oral protein kinase inhib.tor(PKI)that targets vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)receptors,fib.ob.astic growth factor receptors,platelet-derived growth factor receptors,and stem cell factor that inhib.ts VEGF-induced cellular *** is approved for use in advanced renal cell carcinoma and sub.ypes of advanced soft-tissue sarcoma(Deguchi et al.,2018).Major adverse drug reactions of pazopanib.include hypertension,high-grade hyponatremia and posterior reversib.e encephalopathy syndrome(PRES)(b.rardi et al.,2016;Deguchi et al.,2018).In clinical trials,few investigations have b.en conducted to determine the aetiology of PKI-associated hyponatremia,the mechanism remains therefore *** rare cases of PKI-induced syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone(SIADH)(Largeau et al.,2019),and none with pazopanib.have b.en *** is a clinical and radiological entity where a b.lateral white matter oedema,occurring predominantly in the posterior occipital and parietal lob.s,is associated with several neurologic ***,a recent review suggests that SIADH could b. a symptom of PRES(Largeau et al.,2019).To our knowledge,this is the first case pub.ished where pazopanib.induced PRES occurs contemporaneously with possib.e SIADH.

Phosphorus Fertilizer Effects on Near-Surface Soil Aggregation in Furrow-Irrigated Rice on a Silt-Loam Soil

Well-aggregated soil has b.en shown to improve soil infiltration and reduce runoff and soil erosion, making well-aggregated soil important for productive, sustainab.e agriculture. One factor that may influence near-surface soil aggregate stab.lity is fertilizer application. Rapid dissolution of fertilizers, which are mostly salts, can potentially disperse clays and destab.lize aggregates. The ob.ective of this study was to evaluate the potential effect of various fertilizer-phosphorus (P) and -nitrogen (N) sources [i.e., triple superphosphate (TSP), monoammonium phosphate (MAP), chemically precipitated struvite (CPST), electrochemically precipitated struvite (ECST), environmentally smart nitrogen (ESN)] and soil depth on water-stab.e aggregates (WSA) in furrow-irrigated rice on a silt-loam soil (Typic Alb.qualf). Total WSA (TWSA) concentration was unaffected (P > 0.05) b. fertilizer treatment or soil depth, while WSA concentration was numerically largest (P ∙g-1), which did not differ from CPST, ECST, and ESN in the 0 - 5 cm depth or the unamended control in the 0 - 5 and 5 - 10 cm depths, and was at least 1.7 times larger than ESN in the 5 - 10 cm depth (0.03 g∙g-1). Results indicated that WSA concentration among non-struvite fertilizer-P sources was generally similar to that from the struvite fertilizer materials. Principal component analysis determined that 32% of the variation of TWSA was mainly explained b. changes in soil b.lk density, pH, and electrical conductivity. Long-term, continual annual application of fertilizer-P and N could negatively impact soil aggregate stab.lity, soil structure, and potentially erosion.
