BACKGROUND:Postoperative pancreatic fistula is the main cause of morbidity after pancreatic *** study aimed to quantify the clinical and economic consequences of pancreatic fistula in a medium-volume pancreatic surgery ***:Hospital records from patients who had undergone elective pancreatic resection in our department were *** fistula was defined according to the International Study Group on Pancreatic Fistula(ISGPF).The consequences of pancreatic fistula were determined by treatment cost,hospital stay,and out-patient follow-up until the pancreatic fistula was completely *** costs of the treatment are calculated in *** cost increase index was calculated for pancreatic fistula of grades A,B,and C as multiples of the total cost for the no fistula ***:In 54 months,102 patients underwent elective pancreatic *** patients(39.2%) developed pancreatic fistula,and 54 patients(52.9%) had one or more *** median length of hospital stay for the no fistula,grades A,B,and C fistula groups was 12.5,14,20,and 59 days,*** hospital stay of patients with fistula of grades B and C was significantly longer than that of patients with no fistula(P<0.001).The median total cost of the treatment was 4952,4679,8239,and 30 820 Euros in the no fistula,grades A,B,and C fistula groups,***:The grading recommended by the ISGPF is useful for comparing the clinical severity of fistula and for analyzing the clinical and economic consequences of pancreatic *** fistula prolongs the hospital stay and increases the cost of treatment in proportion to the severity of the fistula.

The Permo-Triassic boundary in Wulong area, Sichuan Province, South China lies in a continuous marine carbonate succession with abundant fossil records. Two well-exposed sections were sampled for magnetostratigraphic studies. The experimental results of rock magnetism reveal that the samples from the Triassic limestones contain only magnetites among which 70% are multi-domain. The ChRM direction is carried by remaining 30% of single-domain magnetite. The Permian limestone samples are dominated by single-domain to superparamagnetic magnetites with little ChRM direction due to their fine-grained texture. Nevertheless, the polarity determination is still possible based on the NRM vector changes during thermal demagnetization. A Permo-Triassic polarity profile in Wulong area is established in the paper, and a tentative correlation with other known profiles is pursued. The authors suggest that the Illawarra reversal starts at the upper part of Wujiapingian, while some normal polarity events may exist in the Kiaman Epoch.

Severe injuries are the major cause of death in those aged under 40,mainly due to road traffic ***,metabolic and immune pathways respond to limit the tissue damage sustained and initiate wound healing,repair and regeneration ***,depending on age and sex,the response to injury and patient prognosis differ *** are catabolic and immunosuppressive and are produced as part of the stress response to injury leading to an intra-adrenal shift in steroid biosynthesis at the expense of the anabolic and immune enhancing steroid hormone dehydroepiandrosterone(DHEA)and its sulphated metabolite dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate(DHEAS).The balance of these steroids after injury appears to influence outcomes in injured humans,with high cortisol:DHEAS ratio associated with increased morbidity and *** models of trauma,sepsis,wound healing,neuroprotection and burns have all shown a reduction in proinflammatory cytokines,improved survival and increased resistance to pathological challenges with DHEA *** supplementation studies,which have focused on post-menopausal females,older adults,or adrenal insufficiency have shown that restoring the cortisol:DHEAS ratio improves wound healing,mood,bone remodelling and psychological ***,there are no DHEA or DHEAS supplementation studies in trauma patients,but we review here the evidence for this potential therapeutic agent in the treatment and rehabilitation of the severely injured patient.

Comelina sotivo is an oil seed crop which can be grown on marginal lands. Camelina seed oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids （〉35%） and y-tocopherol but is also high in erucic acid and glucosinolates. Camelina meal, is the by-product after the oil has been extracted. Camelina meal was fed to 28 d old weaned pigs at 3.7% and 7.4% unt age 56 d. The camelina meal supplements in the soy based diets, improved feed efficiency but also significantly increased the liver weights. Gene expression analyses of the livers, using intra-species microarrays, identified increased expression of phase 1 and phase 2 drug metabolism enzymes. The porcine versions of the enzymes were confirmed by real time PCR. Cytochrome 8b1 （CYPSB1）, aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 （Aldh2）, and thiosulfate transferase （TST） were all significantly stimulated. Collectively, these genes implicate the camelina glucosinolate metabolite, methyl-sulfinyldecyl isothiocyanate, as the main xeniobiotic, causing increased hepatic metabolism and increased liver weight.
