New approaches to identification and characterization of tioconazole in raw material and in pharmaceutical dosage forms

Tioconazole(TCZ), a broad-spectrum antifungal agent, has significant activity against Candida albicans and other Candida species, and therefore, it is indicated for the topical treatment of superficial *** main goal of this work is to report an exhaustive identification and characterization procedure to improve and facilitate the online quality control and continuous process monitoring of TCZ in bulk material and loaded in two different dosage forms: ovules and nail lacquer. The methodologies were based on thermal(differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), melting point, and thermogravimetry(TG)),spectroscopic(ultraviolet(UV), Raman, near infrared(NIR), infrared spectroscopy coupled to attenuated total reflectance(FTIR-ATR), and nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)), microscopic and X-ray diffraction(XRD). The TCZ bulk powder showed a high crystallinity, as observed by XRD, with a particles size distribution(3–95 mm) resolved by microscopic measurements. TCZ melting point(82.8 °C) and a degradation peak centered at 297.8 °C were obtained by DSC and DTG, respectively. An unambiguous structure elucidation of TCZ was obtained by mono-and two-dimensional1 H and13 C NMR spectral data analysis. The FTIR-ATR, Raman and NIR spectra of both the raw material and the commercial products were analyzed and their characteristic bands were tabulated. The best methods for TCZ identification in ovules were DSC, TG, XRD, NIR and Raman, while NIR and FTIR-ATR were the most appropriate techniques to analyze it in the nail lacquer. DSC, TG, DRX, Raman, FTIR-ATR and NIR spectroscopy are effective techniques to be used in online process analysis, because they do not require sample preparation, and they are considerably sensitive to analyze complex samples.

Diagenetic and geochemical studies of the Buchan Formation (Upper Devonian) in the Central North Sea

The Upper Devonian Buchan Formation reservoirs in the UK Central North Sea are litharenite/sublitharenite and were deposited in fluvial-aeolian settings. The grain-coating clays in the aeolian sandstones have effectively inhibited quartz overgrowth. Hence, the reduction of reservoir quality is mainly due to mechanical compaction and early dolomite pre- cipitation in both fluvial and aeolian sandstones; quartz overgrowth and kaolinite illitization in fluvial sandstones; and limited smectite illitization in aeolian sandstones. The carbon/oxygen stable isotopes of dolomite cements suggest a predominantly marine carbon source and precipitation temperatures between 25 and 58 ~C indicating a shallow burial depth during dolomite precipitation. The temperatures and the dolomite distribution indicate that the cements originated from the overlying Upper Permian Zechstein carbonates. Extensive quartz overgrowths formed at 80 and 120 ~C in the late and deep diagenetic burial history. The most probable silica source was from feldspar kaolinitization and pressure dissolution of quartz grains. Through detailed petrography and geochemical analyses, the burial-paragenesis-thermal history of the Buchan Formation has been constructed. Similar diagenetic processes are likely to have occurred in the Buchan Formation in other parts of the Central and Northern North Sea. This study may allow new petroleum plays to be considered in areas previously thought to have poor hydrocarbon potential.

Composite microcapsules with enhanced mechanical stability and reduced active ingredient leakage

A calcium shellac （CS） matrix was used to encapsulate polymeric melamine formaldehyde microcapsules （A） or CaCO3 nanoparticles-stabilized microcapsules （B）, both of which encapsulated an oil-based active ingredient, producing A-CS or B-CS composite microcapsules. The mechanical properties and oil release profiles of the composite microcapsules were evaluated. The composite microcapsules showed enhanced mechanical stability and reduced leakage of the active ingredient hv one order of magnitude.

Re-Contextualizing Lu Xun＇s Early Thought and Poetics in the Journal Henan

In this paper I will re-contextualize Lu Xun＇s early thought, as evidenced in his lengthy classical-style essays, which are concerned with issues in literature, philosophy, politics and aesthetics during an era when China was facing profound cultural changes. Part of their significance lies in the way they provide us with an unabashed glimpse at what Lu Xun set out to accomplish, early on, in his new-found literary career. Although they are mainly the product of his final Lehrjahre （years of study） in Japan, the fact that he chose to include the two longest of them in the very first pages of his important 1926 anthology Fen （The grave） indicates that he considered the views expressed therein neither too immature nor too pass- to reprint at the height of his career as a creative writer. In fact, he wrote that one of his reasons for doing so was that a number of the literary figures and issues treated in these essays had, ironically, taken on an increased relevance for China ＂since the founding of the Republic.＂ The central concern of all the essays turns on questions of cultural crisis and transition. What I propose to do in this paper is to re-examine the essays within the context in which they first appeared, i.e., the expatriate Chinese journal Henan, then published in Tokyo as an unofficial organ of the anti-Manchu Tongmenghui （Revolutionary Alliance）.

QUADRATURE METHODS FOR HIGHLY OSCILLATORY SINGULAR INTEGRALS

We address the evaluation of highly oscillatory integrals,with power-law and logarithmic *** problems arise in numerical methods in ***,the evaluation of oscillatory integrals dominates the run-time for wave-enriched boundary integral formulations for wave scattering,and many of these exhibit *** show that the asymptotic behaviour of the integral depends on the integrand and its derivatives at the singular point of the integrand,the stationary points and the endpoints of the integral.A truncated asymptotic expansion achieves an error that decays faster for increasing *** on the asymptotic analysis,a Filon-type method is constructed to approximate the *** an asymptotic expansion,the Filon method achieves high accuracy for both small and large ***-valued quadrature involves interpolation at the zeros of polynomials orthogonal to a complex weight *** results indicate that the complex-valued Gaussian quadrature achieves the highest accuracy when the three methods are ***,while it achieves higher accuracy for the same number of function evaluations,it requires signi cant additional cost of computation of orthogonal polynomials and their zeros.

Understanding Wild Grass by Talking to Oneself:Lu Xurf s Yecao through the Lens of Ziyan Ziyu and the Prism of the Past

This article makes a reinterpretation of Lu Xun's acclaimed prose poetry collection Yecao (Wild grass), written between 1924-27, by reading it in conjunct!on with a rediscovered prototype consisting of seven pieces published in Guomin gongbao (The citizen's gazette) between August and September 1919 under the title Ziyan ziyu (Talking to oneself). Lu Xunl baihua prose style had advanced considerably in the interim, but the author discerns a degree of thematic overlap between the two collections, on the basis of which he proposes answers to key questions that have been asked about Yecao since its first publication, concluding that it is still as fresh and avant-garde a collection to readers today as it was nearly one hundred years ago.

Epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors in colorectal cancer treatment: What's new?

Colorectal cancer constitutes one of the most common malignancies and the second leading cause of death from cancer in the western world representing one million new cases and half a million deaths annually worldwide. The treatment of patients with metastatic colon cancer comprises different regimens of chemotherapeutic compounds （fluoropyrimidines, irinotecan and oxaliplatin） and new targeted therapies. Interestingly, most recent trials that attempt to expose patients to all five-drug classes （fluoropyrimidines, irinotecan, oxaliplatin, bevacizumab and cetuximab） achieve an overall survival well over 2 years. In this review we will focus on the main epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors demonstrating clinical benefit for colorectal cancer mainly cetuximab, panitumumab, erlotinib and gefltinib. We will also describe briefly the molecular steps that lie beneath them and the different clinical or molecular mechanisms that are reported for resistance and response.

Collisions of the Past with the Present： Translation, Texts, and History

This article begins by articulating a new perspective on the translation of Chinese poetry, arguing that the most important of the three well-known ＂difficulties＂ in the translation of Chinese poetry outlined by Yan Fu 严复（1854-1921）--namely, faithfulness （xin 信）, conveyance （da 达）, and elegance （ya 雅）--should in fact be the one that is least often discussed, da. The author principally interprets da as ＂conveying＂ the mood and then the meaning of the original work into the target language. This position is then illustrated by specific examples from Lu Xun＇s （1881-1936） emotive and highly allusive classical-style poetry, engaging issues regarding its annotation, exegesis, and translation which have arisen in Chinese literary and scholarly circles. The author suggests that since the deployment of affective images has often been designated as an essential and distinguishing characteristic of Chinese poetry, the translation of Chinese poetry into Western languages must make an effort to engage with the original images--not simply resorting to paraphrases or substitutions--and concludes that poetry in translation can and does have important and lasting effects on the literature of the target language.

The Origin of Patterning Systems in Bilateria——Insights from the Hox and ParaHox Genes in Acoelomorpha

Hox and ParaHox genes constitute two families of developmental regulators that pattern the Anterior-Posterior body axis in all bilaterians. The members of these two groups of genes are usually arranged in genomic clusters and work in a coordinated fashion, both in space and in time. While the mechanistic aspects of their action are relatively well known, it is still unclear how these systems evolved. For instance, we still need a proper model of how the Hox and ParaHox clusters were assembled over time. This problem is due to the shortage of information on gene complements for many taxa （mainly basal metazoans） and the lack of a consensus phylogenetic model of animal relationships to which we can relate our new findings. Recently, several studies have shown that the Acoelomorpha most probably represent the first offshoot of the Bilateria. This finding has prompted us, and others, to study the Hox and ParaHox complements in these animals, as well as their activity during development. In this review, we analyze how the current knowledge of Hox and ParaHox genes in the Acoelomorpha is shaping our view of bilaterian evolution.
