The cratonisation of Western Australia during the proterozoic overlapped with several key events in the evolution of Earth. These include global oxidation events and glaciations, as well as the assembly,accretionary growth, and breakup of the supercontinents Columbia and Rodinia, culminating in the assembly of Gondwana. Globally, proterozoic mineral systems evolved in response to the coupled evolution of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and lithosphere. Consequently, mineral deposits form preferentially in certain times, but they also require a favourable tectonic setting. For Western Australia a distinct plate-margin mineralisation trend is associated with Columbia, whereas an intraplate mineralisation trend is associated with Rodinia and Gondwana, each with associated deposit types. We compare the current proterozoic record of ore deposits in Western Australia to the estimated likelihood of oredeposit formation. Overall likelihood is estimated with a simple matrix-based approach that considers two components: The "global secular likelihood" and the "tectonic setting likelihood". This comparative study shows that at least for the studied ore-deposit types, deposits within Western Australia developed at times, and in tectonic settings compatible with global databases. Nevertheless, several deposit types are either absent or poorly-represented relative to the overall likelihood models. Insufficient exploration may partly explain this, but a genuine lack of deposits is also suggested for some deposit types. This may relate either to systemic inadequacies that inhibited ore-deposit formation, or to poor preservation. The systematic understanding on the record of Western Australia helps to understand mineralisation processes within Western Australia and its past connections in Columbia, Rodinia and Gondwana and aids to identify regions of high exploration potential.

Mirizzi syndrome, a rare complication of gallstones, is defined by obstruction of the main bile duct. This obstruction may worsen and thus result in cholecystobiliary fistula. surgical management of Mirizzi syndrome is complicated by the presence of inflamed tissue around the hepatic pedicle, making it impossible to distinguish between the main bile duct and the gallbladder. The surgeon＇s first task is to perform subtotal cholecystotomy（from the fundus of the gallbladder to the neck） without trying to locate the cystic duct. In a second step, the gallstones are extracted and the main bile duct is then repaired. In most cases, a T-tube is used to drain the main bile duct, and abdominal drainage is left in place（in case a bile fistula forms）. This study concluded that preoperative drainage of the main bile duct in the treatment of Mirizzi syndrome types II and III is feasible and might help to decrease the postoperative complication rate.

A hyper-osmotically sensitive mutant of Arabidopsis thaliana, designated hos3-1 （high expression of osmotically responsive genes）, was identified based on its hyper-luminescence of RD29A：LUC promoter fusion plants upon treatment with NaCI and ABA. These responses implicate the disrupted gene as a direct or indirect negative regulator of the RD29A stress-responsive pathway. By sequencing the flanking regions of the T-DNA borders, it was determined that the disrupted gene is at locus At4g36830, annotated as encoding a putative protein with high homology to CIG30 （ELO2/FEN1）. CIG30 has been implicated in synthesis of very long chain fatty acids （VLCFA）, which are essential precursors for sphingolipids and ceramides. Altered stress responses characteristic of ABA-hypersensitivity, including reduced root growth inhibition and reduced germination with ABA treatment and reduced water loss from leaves, were exhibited by allelic hos3-1 and hos3-2 mutants. The hos3-2 mutant is partially suppressed in its transcript abundance and is inherited as a recessive trait. Further, the HOs30RF under the control of the 35sCaMV promoter restored wild-type NaCI- and ABA-root growth sensitivity as well as RD29A：LUC luminescence in mutant plants. We also show here that the HOs3 wild-type gene functionally complements the sensitivity of elo2 and elo3 yeast mutants to monensin. Furthermore, both hos3-1 and hos3-2 alleles shared increased sensitivity to the herbicide Metolachlor, which inhibits acyl chain elongation in synthesis of VLCFA, and HOs3 functionally complemented both elo2 and elo3 and restored levels of VLCFA. Together, these data establish that HOs3 inhibits ABA-mediated stress responses and implicate the VLCFA pathway and products as control points for several aspects of abiotic stress signaling and responses. The results also provide support for a role of ceramide in the control of stomatal behavior.

Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of orthopaedic soles on the body posture. Methods. Forty-eight runners (21 men and 28 women) maintained a standing-up position on both feet with bare feet with neutral soles and orthopedic soles which contained bilaterally a podiatrist element of 3 mm height behind the metatarsal heads (Metatarsal Retro Capital Bar, MRCB). stabilometric, plantar pressure and kinematic data in the sagittal plane on both sides were measured at 40 and 60 Hz, respectively. The position of the center of pressure on the anteroposterior axis (YCop), the forefoot plantar pressure (Fpp) and the anteroposterior position of the knee (Yk), the hip (YH), the shoulder (Ys) and the ears (YE) with respect to the vertical axis passing through the joint of the ankle were determined for each experimental condition. Findings. The addition of a MRCB orthopedic element induced in backward displacement of Cop, hip, shoulder and ears (p Cop and Fpp changes were significantly correlated with YH, Ys and YE changes (p Conclusion. These results suggest that the addition of an orthopedic element located behind the metatarsal heads influences the overall position of the body and can help podiatrist in the care of their patients.

Ultrawideband electromagnetic pulses with high amplitude and short duration are reported to affect several aspects of cell physiology. They are usually delivered to the living material through electrodes in small dedicated chambers. Here we showed, using a totally different experimental setup, that radiated EM pulses illuminating the living material through a specialized antenna (without any direct contact) are able to trigger a rapid release of ATp in cultured murine cells that was concomitant with a drop of intracellular AEC. Despite this rapid and strong response, we found that cell viability and clonogenicity were only slightly affected by the EMF exposure.

Background. Dyspareunia is frequently associated with a psychiatric origin, particularly in patients with no obvious sjogrensp> p>sjogrensp> p>sjogrensp> p>sjogrensp>¨ p>sjogrensp>vulvovaginal or pelvic disease. The aim of this study was to assess the frequency of dry syndrome in patients with dyspareunia and to evaluate the main clinical and biological features and follow-up data for women with dyspareunia and dry syndrome. patients and methods. Twenty-two patients presenting chronici diopathic dyspareunia (without clear vulvovaginal dermatosis or infection) were included in this retrospective study. All patients underwent history-taking, gynecological examination, a schirmer tear test, a sugar test, labial salivary gland biopsy assessment and immunological examination. A diagnosis of syndrome was considered where histological examination of the salivary glands showed a lymphocyte infiltration corresponding to stage 3 or 4 in the Chisholm classification. Diagnosis of dry syndrome without syndrome was made in patients with xerostomia and/or xerophthalmia without a specific histological picture of syndrome or immunological abnormalities at salivary gland biopsy. Results. Based on our criteria, 10 patients (45% ) had dry syndrome, including 4 with syndrome and 6 with dry syndrome without syndrome. 9 of these 10 patients presented either xerostomia (7 cases) and/or xerophthalmia (7 cases). Vaginal dryness was reported by 3 of the 10 women with dry syndrome but also by 4 of 12 women without dry syndrome. Examination of the vulva showed no particular clinical features and treatment with an emollient was not effective in all cases. Discussion. This study showed a high frequency of dry syndrome in patients with chronic “ idiopathic” dyspareunia.
