Polychlorinated biphenyls and omega-3 fatty acid exposure from fish consumption,and thyroid cancer among New York anglers

Fish from the Great Lakes contain polychlorinated biphenyls（PCBs）which have been shown to disrupt endocrine function and mimic thyroid hormones,but they also contain beneficial omega-3 fatty acids that may offer protection against endocrine *** purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Lake Ontario fish consumption and the estimated consumption of PCBs and omega-3 fatty acids on the risk of thyroid cancer in a group of sport *** from the New York State Angler Cohort Study were followed for cancer incidence from 1991–***-seven cases of incident thyroid cancer and 108 controls were included in the *** estimated fish consumption,estimated omega-3 fatty acid consumption,and estimated PCB consumption from Lake Ontario fish were examined for an association with the incidence of thyroid cancer,while matching on sex,and controlling for age and smoking *** from logistic regression indicate no significant associations between fish consumption,short-term estimated omega-3 fatty acids,or estimated PCB consumption from Great Lakes fish and the development of thyroid cancer,but it was suggested that long-term omega-3 fatty acid from Great Lakes fish may be protective of the development of thyroid *** conclusion,fish consumption,with the possible concomitant PCBs,from the Great Lakes does not appear to increase the risk of thyroid cancer in New York *** research is needed in order to separate the individual health effects of PCBs from omega-3 fatty acids contained within the fish.

Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of heat treated LCB titanium alloy

The influence of ageing time on microstructure and mechanical properties of low-cost beta （LCB） titanium alloy with a chemical composition of Ti-6.6Mo-4.5Fe-1.5Al was investigated. The correlation between microstructure and fatigue crack initiation and growth was also studied. Increasing ageing time tended to increase the volume fraction of the secondary α-precipitates, β-grain size and partial spheroidization of primary α-phase. The maximum tensile strength （1565 MPa） and fatigue limit （750 MPa） were obtained for the samples aged at 500 °C for 0.5 h, while the minimum ones of 1515 MPa and 625 MPa, respectively, were reported for the samples aged at 500 °C for 4 h. The samples aged at 500 °C for 4 h showed a transgranular fracture mode. However, the samples aged at 500 °C for 0.5 h revealed a mixture fracture mode of transgranular and intergranular. The formed cracks on the outer surface of the fatigue samples were found to propagate through the β-grains connecting the primary α-particles existing at the β-grain boundaries.

A typical problem in Visual Analytics(VA)is that users are highly trained experts in their application domains,but have mostly no experience in using VA ***,users often have difficulties interpreting and working with visual *** overcome these problems,user assistance can be incorporated into VA systems to guide experts through the analysis while closing their knowledge *** types of user assistance can be applied to extend the power of VA,enhance the user’s experience,and broaden the audience for *** different approaches to visualization onboarding and guidance in VA already exist,there is a lack of research on how to design and integrate them in effective and efficient ***,we aim at putting together the pieces of the mosaic to form a coherent *** on the Knowledge-Assisted Visual Analytics model,we contribute a conceptual model of user assistance for VA by integrating the process of visualization onboarding and guidance as the two main approaches in this *** a result,we clarify and discuss the commonalities and differences between visualization onboarding and guidance,and discuss how they benefit from the integration of knowledge extraction and ***,we discuss our descriptive model by applying it to VA tools integrating visualization onboarding and guidance,and showing how they should be utilized in different phases of the analysis in order to be effective and accepted by the user.

Worldwide stroke is increasing in parallel with modernization,changes in lifestyle,and the growing elderly *** review is focused on the link between diet,as part of‘modern lifestyle’,and health in the context of genetic predisposition of individuals to‘unhealthy’metabolic pathway *** is concluded that lifestyle including high sugar diets,alcohol and tobacco addiction or high fat diets as well as ageing,brain injury,oxidative stress and neuroinflammation,negatively influence the onset,severity and duration of neurodegenerative ***,there are several healthy dietary components such as polyunsaturated fatty acids and the anti-oxidants curcumin,resveratrol,blueberry polyphenols,sulphoraphane,salvionic acid as well as caloric restriction and physical activity,which may counteract ageing and associated neurodegenerative diseases via increased autophagy or increased neurogenesis in the adult brain.

Mechanical characterization of cp-Ti produced by investment casting

The influence of hot swaging（SW） and annealing treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of commercially pure titanium produced by investment casting was *** as-cast samples showed a typical microstructure consisting of a variety of α-morphologies,while the hot swaged samples exhibited a kinked lamellar *** at 500 °C did not significantly change this microstructure while annealing at 700 and 870 °C led to recrystallization and formation of equiaxed *** cast bars exhibited a typical hard α-layer in near-surface regions with a maximum depth and maximum hardness of 720 μm and HV0.5 660,*** to SW,the tensile strength of the as-cast material drastically increased from 605 MPa to 895 *** at 500 °C decreased the tensile strength slightly from 895 to 865 MPa while annealing at 700 °C led to a further pronounced drop in tensile strength from 865 to 710 *** additional decrease in tensile strength was noticed with increasing the annealing temperature from 700 to 870 °*** true fracture strain of the as-cast and hot swaged samples was in the range of 0.05 to 0.12,while the annealed samples showed values in the range of 0.25 to *** addition,the as-cast and hot swaged samples revealed a brittle cleavage fracture ***,the annealed samples showed a transgranular ductile fracture with formation of dimples.

What Is the Import of the Abrahamic Avoidance of Naming God: A Platform for International Agreement?

In the earliest Abrahamic scriptures,the writers made clear that God did not want to divulge a personal name he could be *** all the differences among the Abrahamic traditions,one critical point all agree on is the decision that God’s creatures may refer to him and pray to him but not to speak to the God who declares“I am that I am”.It turns out that in the 20th century a Hassidic rebbe figured why that prohibition may be so critical to all cultural traditions of the Abrahamic collection of *** addition,philosophy of language supports the rebbe’s reasoning as does an analogical argument about knowledge inaccessible to simultaneous *** this sums to the grounds for building a platform for international cooperation with religious understanding as more worthy and less risky than the scheming and greed surrounding economic competition.

Effects of lime addition on geotechnical properties of sedimentary soil in Curitiba,Brazil

The soil of the Guabirotuba geological formation（Paraná Basin, Brazil） has physico-mechanical properties which are not suitable for its utilization in pavement construction, in protection of hillsides and slopes, or as shallow foundation support. Treatment of this soil by lime addition would improve its usability. The present context intends to determine the ratio between the splitting tensile strength（q;）and the unconfined compressive strength（q;） of clayey soil in the metropolitan region of Curitiba City,which has been treated with different lime contents and curing times. The control parameters evaluated include lime content（L）, curing time（t）, moisture content（w）, and ratio of porosity to volumetric lime content（η/L;）. It was observed that the q;/q;ratio is between 0.17 and 0.2 in relation to the curing time,and an exponential relation exists between them. Meanwhile, the unconfined compressive strength of lime-treated soil was found to be approximately four times the initial value.

Analysis of metabolic alterations in Arabidopsis following changes in the carbon dioxide and oxygen partial pressures

As sessile organisms,plants are subject to a multitude of environmental variations including several which directly affect their interaction with the *** the indiscriminant nature of Rubisco,the relative rates of photosynthesis and photorespiration are known to be responsive to changes in gas ***,comprehensive profiling methods have not yet been applied in order to characterize the wider consequences of these changes on primary metabolism in ***,although transcriptional profiling has revealed that a subset of photorespiratory enzymes are co-expressed,whether transcriptional responses play a role in short-term responses to atmospheric compositional changes remains *** address these questions,plants Arabidopsis thaliana（Arabidopsis） ecotype Columbia（Col-O） grown under normal air conditions were transferred to different CO_2 and O_2 concentrations and characterized at the physiological,molecular,and metabolic levels following this *** results reveal alterations in the components,which are directly involved in,or supporting,photorespiration,including transcripts and metabolite *** results further highlight that the majority of the regulation of these pathways is not mediated at the level of transcription and that the photorespiratory pathway is essential also in conditions in which flux through the pathway is minimized,yet suggest that flux through this pathway is not mediated at the level of transcription.
