AIM To evaluate the utility of fecal calprotectin(FC) in predicting relapse and endoscopic activity during follow-up in an inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) *** All FC measurements that were obtained during a 3-year period from patients with inflammatory bowel disease in clinical remission were identified. Data regarding the short-term(6 mo) course of the disease were extracted from the medical files. Exclusion criteria were defined as:(1) An established flare of the disease at the time of FC measurement,(2) Loss to follow up within 6 mo from baseline FC measurement, and,(3) Insufficient data on file. Statistical analysis was performed to evaluate whether baseline FC measurement could predict the short term clinical relapse and/or the presence of mucosal *** We included 149 [Crohn's disease(CD) = 113, Ulcerative colitis(UC) = 36, male = 77] IBD patients in our study. Within the determined 6-month period post-FC measurement, 47(31.5%) had a disease flare. Among 76 patients who underwent endoscopy, 39(51.3%) had mucosal healing. Baseline FC concentrations were significantly higher in those who had clinical relapse compared to those who remained in remission during follow up(481.0 μg/g, 286.0-600.0 vs 89.0, 36.0-180.8, P ve value of baseline median with IQR FC for clinical relapse was confirmed by multivariate Cox analysis [HR for 100μg/g: 1.75(95%CI: 1.28-2.39), P = 0.001]. Furthermore, lower FC baseline values significantly correlated to the presence of mucosal healing in endoscopy(69.0 μg/g, 30.0-128.0 vs 481.0, 278.0-600.0, in those with mucosal inflammation, median with IQR, P values for FC concentration with a high sensitivity and specificity for predicting clinical relapse(261 μg/g with AUC = 0.901, sensitivity 87.2%, specificity 85.3%, P vity 91.9%, specificity 87.2%, P < 0.001). Time series from fisheries often contain multiple missing *** is a severe limitation that prevents using the data for research on population dynamics,stock assessment,forecasting,and,hence,decision-making around marine *** methods have been proposed to impute missing data in univariate time ***,their performances depend not only on the amount of missing data but also on the data *** study compares the performance of twelve imputation methods on the time series of marine fishery landings for six species in the Colombian Pacific *** other studies,we validate the precision of the imputations in the same target time series that include missing data,using the Known Sub-Sequence Algorithm(KSSA),a novelty validation approach that simulates missing data in known sub-sequences of the target time *** results showed that the best methods for imputation are Seasonal Decomposition with Kalman filters and Structural Models with Kalman filters fitted by maximum *** also show that validating the imputation methods with other time series different to the target time series,leads to wrong imputation methods *** is noteworthy that these methods and also the validation framework are mainly suited to time series with non-random distribution of missing data,this is,missing data produced systematically in chunks or clusters with predictable frequency,which are common in marine sciences.

Objective: To determine if short-term treatment with Femara (letrozole) induces measurable reduction in tumor Ki67 expression in postmenopausal women with FIGO grade 1 and 2 endometrial carcinoma. Methods: In this non-randomized prospective study, 12 patients were given Femara (letrozole) 2.5 mg daily for approximately 3 weeks prior to planned hysterectomy for FIGO grade 1 or 2 endometrial carcinoma. A group of 12 demographically similar patients were enrolled as no-treatment controls. Ki67 expression in tumor cells was quantitated by immunohistochemistry with mechanical scanning within the initial endometrial biopsy and compared to that in the hysterectomy specimen for each patient in the treatment and control groups. Results: The treatment and control groups were similar in age, tumor grade and FIGO stage. When “aromatase inhibitor responsiveness” was defined as proportionate decline in Ki67% stained tumor cells of at least 70% between the pre-treatment endometrial biopsy and post-treatment hysterectomy specimens, 5 of 12 patients were found to be “responsive” in the treatment group with none of the controls fulfilling these criteria. Conclusion: Femara (letrozole) 2.5 mg daily for approximately 3 weeks induced a significant reduction in tumor cell Ki67 expression among 5 of 12 (41%) postmenopausal women with FIGO grade 1 or 2 endometrial carcinoma. We postulate that Ki67 may be a useful marker during aromatase inhibitor medical treatment of patients with endometrial cancer who are not candidates for surgical treatment.

Experimentalists, numerical modellers and reactor modellers need to work together, not only just for validation of numerical codes, but also to shed fundamental light on each other＇s problems and underlying assumptions. Several examples are given, Experimental gas axial dispersion data provide a means of choosing the most appropriate boundary condition （no slip, partial slip or full slip） for particles at the wall of fluidized beds. CFD simulations help to identify how close ＂two-dimensional＂ experimental columns are to being truly two-dimensional and to representing three-dimensional columns. CFD also can be used to provide a more rational means of establishing assumptions needed in the modelling of two-phase fluidized bed reactors, for example how to deal with cases where there is a change in molar flow （and hence volumetric flow） as a result of chemical reactions.

AIM: To investigate those associations using data of the population-based Study of Health in ***: A study population of 3 749 residents aged 20-79 years without previously diagnosed thyroid disease was available for analyses. Serum TSH was used to assess thyroid function. Cholelithiasis was defined by either a prior history of cholecystectomy or the presence of gallstones on ultrasound. Logistic regression was performed to analyze independent associations between thyroid function and ***: There were 385 persons (10.3%) with low (＜0.3 mIU/L), 3 321 persons (88.6%) with normal and 43 persons (1.2%) with high serum TSH levels (＞3 mIU/L).The proportion of cholelithiasis among males and females was 14.4% and 25.3%, respectively. Among males, there was an independent relation between high serum TSH and cholelithiasis (OR 3.77; 95%-CI 1.06-13.41; ,P＜0.05). zAlso among males, there was a tendency towards an elevated risk of cholelithiasis in persons with low serum TSH (OR 1.40; 95%-CI 0.96-2.02; P = 0.07). In the female population, no such relation was ***: There is an association between thyroid and gallstone disease with a gender-specific relation between hypothyroidism and cholelithiasis.

Advanced Photonics:How did you come up with the idea of transformation optics?Pendry:In the mid 1990s I was working on finite element codes to study photonic *** were coded in a Cartesian coordinate system which corresponded well with the photonic crystal *** we wanted to look at photonic crystal fibers where the obvious coordinate system was a cylindrical *** a lazy person I asked if there was some way I could avoid completely rewriting the codes and then realized that I could use the Cartesian/cylindrical transformation to find effective values of epsilon and mu in the Cartesian system which made it behave like a cylindrical one,and the old codes worked like a dream for the *** with the algebraic formulae was the realization that field lines were also conserved under the transformation and merely rearranged in space behaving as if they were glued to the distorting coordinate *** provides a valuable physical insight into the transformation process which goes far beyond the algebraic *** in 2003 David smith and I used the transformation optics trick to re-engineer the perfect lens into a perfect magnifying *** work was part of a confidential contract and although we patented the concept we did not publish.

This study presents a re-examination of historical specimens(DG136 and DG167)from the Monashee complex in the southeastern Canadian Cordillera that are critical to the current understanding of rare earth element(REE)distribution between garnet and monazite(and other accessory minerals)during ***-hundred and fifty-one new monazite petrochronology spot analyses on 29 different grains across two specimens outline detailed(re)crystallization *** element data collected from the same ablated volume,interpreted in the context of new phase equilibria modelling that includes monazite,xenotime and apatite,link ages to specific portions of the pressure-temperature(P-T)paths followed by the *** linkages are further informed by garnet Lu-Hf geochronology and xenotime *** clockwise P-T paths indicate prograde metamorphism was ongoing by ca.80 Ma in both *** structurally deeper specimen,DG136,records peak P-T conditions of~755-770℃and 8.8-10.4 kbar,interpreted to coincide with(re-)crystallization of low Y monazite at~75-70 ***-rim garnet isopleths from DG167 cross in the observed peak assemblage field at~680℃ and 9.3 *** conditions are interpreted to correspond with low Y monazite(re-)crystallisation at~65 *** specimens record decompression along their retrograde path coincident with high Y 70-55 Ma and 65-55 Ma monazite populations in DG136 and DG167,*** findings broadly agree with those initially reported~20 years ago and confirm early interpretations using trace elements in monazite as generally reliable markers of metamorphic *** phase equilibria modelling and in situ petrochronological analysis,however,provide additional insight into monazite behaviour during anatexis and the effects of potential trace element buffering by REE-bearing phases such as apatite.
