The co-founder of ＂numerical taxonomy,＂ Dr. Robert R. Sokal, died April 9, 2012. Born in January 13, 1926 in Austria, his Jewish family escaped the Nazi invasion across Europe by migrating to Shanghai, China in 1939. Sokal＇s life in the Shanghai enclave is described in Stefan Schomann＇s Letzte Zuflucht Schanghai （German; also available in Chinese）.
