Background The timing of behavior and habitat use of nocturnal animals can be influenced by the lunar cycle in nature. The prevalence of artificial light at night(ALAN) has been recognized as a source of environmental pol-lution. The interaction between ALAN and the lunar cycle on bat behavior is important for understanding anthro-pogenic effects on bats. We utilized a decade(2012–2022) of acoustic monitoring data collected in North Carolina, United States, to investigate the relationship between bat activity, lunar cycle, and light pollution. We examined whether the amount of lunar illumination affected species-specific nightly activity and whether hourly bat activity patterns varied between nights with different moon phases. We further investigated if the relationship between bat activity and the lunar cycle might be altered by light *** We found that seven bat species showed activity variation across nights in relation to the amount of moon illumination when ALAN was absent. In general, bats were less active on full moon nights compared to new moon nights. Light pollution interacted with the bat–lunar relationship in five of the seven species, masking the effect of the lunar cycle. We identified delayed bat activity patterns on nights with a full or waxing moon in seven species, and light pollution altered that pattern in four species. Overall, ALAN was associated with decreased bat activity inde-pendent of lunar cycle *** Our study demonstrated that at a broad spatial scale, ALAN negatively affected many North American temperate bat species and altered their lunar chronobiology. As light pollution is spreading to historically dark areas and habitats, ALAN might couple with other threats, such as the white-nose syndrome or climate change, to cause cascading damage in the environment that depends on ecosystem services such as pest control provided by bats. CHONDRULES are the major constituent of chondrites, but the nature of their origin remains elusive. Models based on nebular settings have attracted much support since Wood suggested that they formed there ascondensates. Subsequently, the melting of dust in the nebula has been widely invoked. Recently,however, models suggesting that chondrules formed in parent body regoliths have been revived, couldhelp to explain the coexistence of chondrules with chemically differentiated clasts The Boxian meteorite is a fall and was originally described as L4. The widely quoted classification of the chondrite is LL4. In this study, 362 chondrules were separated from the Boxian meteorite,and were measured for their grain sizes, masses and morphologies. 101 of these chondrules were successfully split and parts of them made into polished blocks; the remaining segments were individually set asidefor future oxygen isotopic analyses. SP100 is an antiviral protein that restricts the productive stage of human papillomavirus(HPV)and multiple other viruses,and viruses in turn block sUMO-1-mediated stabilization of SP100 and promotes its degradation(Table S1).Interferon(IFN)signaling could still produce more SP100 through transcription to counteract viruses.1 Viruses also disable the transcriptional up-regulation of SP100 to achieve persistent infection in hosts.

geochemical and mineralogical studies were performed in the La Pesca(LP)and Tesoro Altamira(TA)beach sediments,located in the Tamaulipas state,northern gulf of *** main aim of this study is to infer the weathering history and provenance and to discriminate the tectonic environment of the beach *** sediments are composed of quartz with small amounts of accessory minerals such as plagioclase,calcite,orthoclase,microcline,and *** beach sediments are classified as fine-grained and very well sorted,however LP has coarse skewed and leptokurtic sediments,whereas TA has fine-skewed and very leptokurtic *** chemical index of weathering(CIW’)indicates intense weathering in the source *** quartz grain microtextures in the LP and TA are classified into mechanical,chemical,and mechanical/chemical *** features such as fractures,pits,percussion marks,abrasion fatigue,and V-shaped marks favor high-energy littoral,fluvial,subaqueous-marine,and aeolian *** chemical features indicate solution pits and crystalline overgrowth,which suggests a silica saturated marine *** mechanical/chemical features display adhering particles and elongated depressions suggest formation in a sub-aqueous nearshore marine *** and trace elements-based provenance discrimination diagrams indicate a felsic source derived from the Mesa Central(mc),Sierra Madre Oriental(SMOr)and Oaxaquia *** major and trace element concentrations imply a passive margin setting for the northern gulf of Mexico,which is consistent with the general geology.

The threat of increasing fuel prices and climate change necessitates the need for clean,renewable and independent energy sources.A gIS(geographical Information Systems)model was developed using ArcgIS 9.2 to analyze the availability of non-woody biomass(wheat,oat,barley and rape straw,willow and miscanthus)for pellet production in *** within the heating and electricity sector would displace currently used fossil fuels with cleaner,carbon neutral non-woody *** aim of the analysis was to determine the total hectares of biomass within Ireland and compute the potential non-woody biomass *** greatest potential source of biomass for pelleting is cereal *** the Republic of Ireland the South-East,South-West and Mid-East of Ireland have the greatest biomass yield for pellet production and likely to be most economically ***-woody biomass has a realistic potential to displace fossil fuels within the heating and electricity sector resulting in CO2 mitigation.

Risk factors for Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal adenocarcinoma:Results from the FINBAR study

AIM:To investigate risk factors associated with Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal ***:This all-Ireland population-based case-control study recruited 224 Barrett's oesophagus patients,227 oesophageal adenocarcinoma patients and 260 *** participants underwent a structured interview with information obtained about potential lifestyle and environmental risk ***:gastro-oesophageal reflux was associated with Barrett's [OR 12.0(95% CI 7.64-18.7)] and oesophageal adenocarcinoma [OR 3.48(95% CI 2.25-5.41)].Oesophageal adenocarcinoma patients were more likely than controls to be ex-or current smokers [OR 1.72(95% CI 1.06-2.81)and OR 4.84(95% CI 2.72-8.61)respectively] and to have a high body mass index [OR 2.69(95% CI 1.62-4.46)].No significant associations were observed between these risk factors and Barrett's *** but not vegetables were negatively associated with oesophageal adenocarcinoma [OR 0.50(95% CI 0.30-0.86)].CONCLUSION:A high body mass index,a diet low in fruit and cigarette smoking may be involved in the progression from Barrett's oesophagus to oesophageal adenocarcinoma.

AIM: To further define variables associated with increased incidences of severe toxicities following administration of yttrium-90 (90Y) ***: Fifty-eight patients undergoing 79 treatments were retrospectively assessed for development of clinical and laboratory toxicity incidence following 90Y administration. Severe toxicity events were defined using Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 4.03 and defined as grade ≥ 3. Univariate logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the effect of different factors on the incidence of severe toxicity events. Multicollinearity was assessed for all factors with P g Pearson correlation matrices. All factors not excluded due to multicollinearity were included in a multivariate logistic regression model for each measurement of severe ***: Severe (grade ≥ 3) toxicities occurred following 21.5% of the 79 treatments included in our analysis. The most common severe laboratory toxicities were severe alkaline phosphatase (17.7%), albumin (12.7%), and total bilirubin (10.1%) toxicities. Decreased pre-treatment albumin (OR = 26.2, P = 0.010) and increased pre-treatment international normalized ratio (INR) (OR = 17.7, P = 0.048) were associated with development of severe hepatic toxicity. Increased pre-treatment aspartate aminotransferase (AST; OR = 7.4, P = 0.025) and decreased pre-treatment hemoglobin (OR = 12.5, P = 0.025) were associated with severe albumin toxicity. Increasing pre-treatment model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score (OR = 1.8, P = 0.033) was associated with severe total bilirubin toxicity. Colorectal adenocarcinoma histology was associated with severe alkaline phosphatase toxicity (OR = 5.4, P = 0.043).CONCLUSION: Clinicians should carefully consider pre-treatment albumin, INR, AST, hemoglobin, MELD, and colorectal histology when choosing appropriate candidates for 90Y microsphere therapy.

Tungsten ditelluride(WTe_(2))is a layered transition metal dichalcogenide(TMD)that has attracted increasing research inter-est in recent ***_(2) has demonstrated large non-saturating magnetoresistance,potential for spintronic applications and promise as a type-II Weyl *** majority of works on WTe_(2) have relied on mechanically exfoliated flakes from chemical vapour transport(CVT)-grown crystals for their *** producing high-quality samples,this method is hindered by several disadvantages including long synthesis time,high-temperature annealing and an inherent lack of *** this work,a synthesis method is demonstrated that allows the production of large-area polycrystalline films of WTe_(2).This is achieved by the reaction of pre-deposited films of W and Te at a relatively low temperature of 550℃.Sputter X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveals the rapid but self-limiting nature of the oxidation of these WTe_(2) films in ambient *** WTe_(2) films are composed of areas of micrometre-sized nanobelts that can be isolated and offer potential as an alternative to CVT-grown *** nanobelts are highly crystalline with low defect densities indicated by transmission electron microscopy and show promising initial electrical results.
