A growing number of studies have shown that impaired visibility caused by particulate matter pollution influences emotional ***,evidence is still scant on how this effect varies across individuals and over repetitive visual exposure in a controlled ***,we designed a lab-based experiment(41 subjects,6 blocks)where participants were presented with real-scene images of 12 different PM_(2.5) concentrations in each *** valence(negative to positive)and arousal(calm to excited)were self-rated by participants per image,and the response time for each rating was *** find that as pollution level increases from 10 to 260µg/m3,valence scores decrease,whereas arousal scores decline first and then bounce back,following a U-shaped *** air quality deteriorates,individual variability decreases in hedonic valence but increases in *** blocks,repetitive visual exposure increases valence at a moderate pollution level but aggravates negative emotions in severely polluted conditions(>150µg/m3).Finally,we find females,people who are slow in making responses,and those who are highly aroused by clean air tend to express more negative responses(so-called negativity bias)to ambient pollution than their respective *** results provide deeper insights into individual-level emotional responses to dirty air in a controlled *** the findings in our pilot study should only be directly applied to the conditions assessed herein,we introduce a framework that can be replicated in different regions to assess the impact of air pollution on local emotional wellbeing.

Real-World Evidence of Multiple Air Pollutants and Mortality:A Prospective Cohort study in an Oldest-Old Population

We aimed to report real-world longitudinal ambient air pollutants levels compared to WHO Air Quality Guidelines(AQG)and analyze multiple air pollutants’joint effect on longevity,and the modification and confounding from the climate and urbanization with a focus on the *** study included 13,207 old participants with 73.3%aged 80 and beyond,followed up from 2008 to 2018 in 23 Chinese *** used the Cox-proportional hazards model and quantile-based g-computation model to measure separate and joint effects of the multiple *** adjusted for climate and area economic factors based on a directed acyclic *** 2018,no participants met the WHO AQG for PM_(2.5) and O_(3),and about one-third met the AQG for NO_(2).The hazard ratio(HR)for mortality was 1.07(95%confidence interval-CI:1.05,1.09)per decile increase in all three pollutants,with PM_(2.5) being the dominant contributor according to the quantile-based g-computation *** the three-pollutant model,the HRs(95%CI)for PM_(2.5) and NO_(2) were 1.27(1.25,1.3)and 1.08(1.05,1.12)per 10μg/m3 increase,*** oldest-old experienced a much lower mortality risk from air pollution compared to the *** mortality risk of PM_(2.5) was higher in areas with higher annual average *** adjustment of road density considerably intensified the association between NO_(2) and *** ambient PM_(2.5) and O_(3) levels in China exceeded the WHO AQG target *** pollutants coexposure,confounding,and modification of the district economic and climate factors should not be ignored in the association between air pollution and mortality.

Objectives Hypertension affects more than 30%of Us ***-hypertensive medication is prescribed to control blood *** to lead,as a heavy metal,can increase blood pressure through oxidative stress,activity of angiotensin-converting en2 yme,and endothelial *** study has examined hypertensive control in the presence of high blood *** We used nationally representative data,Us National Health and Nutrition Examination survey(NHANEs),from 1999 to *** pressure was measured in people aged 16 years and *** was identified in participants defined as systolic blood pressure(sBP) ≥140 mm Hg,diastolic blood pressure(DBP) ≥ 90 mm Hg(pre-2017 guidelines),or self-reported hypertension diagnosis,or use of anti-hypertensive ***-hypertensive medications studied included:beta-blockers,calcium channel blockers,diuretics,angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors,angiotensin receptor blockers,and *** linear regression models adjusted for age,sex,race,education,and income were used to estimate the interaction between blood pressure,blood lead level,and anti-hypertensive *** blood lead level was defined as ≥ 5 ug/dL by CDC *** We estimated 37.1%of Americans have high blood pressure or hypertension,and 63.4%of those with high blood pressure were taking one or more anti-hypertensive medications.A total of 16895 participants with hypertension and blood lead measurements were included in the *** mean(sE) sBP/DBP was134.0(0.26)/73.8(0.23) *** weighted mean(sE) value of blood lead was1.95(0.02) ug/dL.5.6%of our population had lead concentrations that exceeded CDC guideline of ≥ 5 ug/*** lead levels independently led to higher sBP/DBP by1.14 mm Hg(95%CI:0.63 to 1.64,***)/0.87 mm Hg(95%CI:0.53 to 1.14,***).Anti-hypertensive medication reduced sBP/DBP by 10.41 mmHg(95%CI:9.09 to 11.72,***)/3.68 mmHg(95%CI:2.77 to 4.60,***).Among people with blood le

Objectives Eczema is a skin condition characterized by an itchy,erythematous rash,which affects up to 10%to 20%of people *** literature finds that low vitamin D levels may be a risk factor for eczema,but the association is not clear,and there are limited studies based on adult population of different *** aim to explore the association between serum vitamin D levels with ever-report of eczema among Us *** We used the cross-sectional data from *** Health and Nutrition Examination survey(NHANEs) *** were defined as 20 years and *** association between eczema and vitamin D was estimated using multivariate logistic regression models adjusted for patient demographics,lifestyle variables,stress,and medical *** cubic spline analyses were performed to explore non-linear *** also stratified by *** A total of 3921 adults were included in the *** prevalence of ever-report of eczema was 7.94%in Us *** of eczema were higher in people with higher socioeconomic status,depressive symptoms,previous history of asthma and hay fever,female,sampled in summer,and non-Hispanic *** logistic regression found higher odds ratio of eczema in vitamin D deficiency group(sufficiency group(>75 nmol/L)(OR=1.81,95%CI:1.09-3.01,p=0.022).The spline analysis found an inverted U-shaped relationship between eczema and vitamin *** risk reached the highest at around 45 nmol/L,with decreasing risk in both directions away from this *** stratified by race,similar association appeared in non-Hispanic white population,but was absent in non-Hispanic black *** Vitamin D is associated with reports of eczema in non-Hispanic white population,but not in the non-Hispanic black population in the *** study may be used to inform vitamin D sufficiency guidelines.

Objectives Exposure to nature,or greenness,may affect health through several pathways,including health-promoting activities and psychological *** prior study has assessed the effect of greenness on vulnerable oldest-old *** assessed the relationship between residential greenness and mortality in an elderly cohort representative of *** We used the prospective China Longitudinal Healthy Longevity survey(CLHLs),a cohort representative of the general elderly population in *** exposure was assessed by satellite-derived Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI) in the 250-m and 1250-m radius around each subject’s residential addresses between 2000 and *** calculated cumulative,contemporaneous,and changes in NDVI values over *** used all-cause mortality,excluding accidental death,as our *** The mean age at baseline was 92(sD:7.6) years *** 3839 subjects totaling 13253 person-years,we observed 3244 deaths during 14 years of follow *** used cox-proportional hazard models,adjusted for age,gender,ethnicity,urban/rural residence,geographical region,education years,main occupation before the age of 60,marital status,smoking status,alcohol consumption,exercise,financial status,co-residence status,and PM 2.5 *** to the lowest quartile of contemporaneous NDVI values,those in the highest quartile had a hazard ratio(HR)of 0.78(95%CI:0.70,0.87) for the 250-m radius,and 0.76(95%CI:0.69,0.85) for the 1250-m *** clear relationship was found for cumulative NDVI *** to subjects living in regions with decreasing greenness,subjects in regions with increasing greenness had an HR of 0.89(95%CI:0.79,1.00)for the 250-m radius,and 0.88(95%CI:0.78,0.99) for the 1250-m radius NDVI *** Our research suggests that more green space may promote healthy longevity,which has policy implications for eco-civilization and preparing for aging societies in China.

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic increased the burden on many healthcare systems and in the process,exposed the need for medical resources and physical *** few studies discussed the efficient utilization of medical resources and physical space so ***,this study aimed to summarize experiences related to facilities used for centralized isolation for medical observation and treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic in China and to provide suggestions to further improve the management of confirmed cases,suspected cases,and close *** China,three types of facilities for centralized isolation(Fangcang shelter hospitals,refitted non-designated hospitals,and quarantine hotels)underwent retrofitting for the treatment and isolation of confirmed and suspected *** facilities mitigated the immediate high demand for ***,in order to minimize infection risks in these facilities,regulators and governmental agencies implemented new designs,management measures,and precautionary measures to minimize infection *** countries and regions could refer to China’s experience in optimally allocating social resources in response to the COVID-19 *** a conclusion,government should allocate social resources and construct centralized isolation and quarantine facilities for an emergency response,health authorities should issue regulations for centralized isolation facilities and pay strict attention to the daily management of these facilities,a multidisciplinary administration team is required to support the daily operation of a centralized isolation facility,in-depth studies and international collaboration on the centralized isolation policy are encouraged.
