Pur. and Smdoped NdOnanophosphor. wer. synthesized using modified Pechini method. The phase for.ation with symmetr. of the sample is confir.ed by the r.etveld r.finement of the powder.Xr.y diffr.ction(PXr.) data. The sur.ace mor.hology and the cr.stallite size wer. examined using scanning electr.n micr.scopy(SEM) and tr.nsmission electr.n micr.scopy(TEM) and the r.sults confir.ed that the synthesized par.icles ar. in nanosize. The ener.y-disper.ive X-r.y(EDX) analysis was done to confir. the pur.ty of the sample. The optical pr.per.ies of the sample wer. studied using ultr.violet-visible r.nge(UV-Vis) spectr.scopic analysis and photoluminescence studies. The calculated band gap of the synthesized NdOwas found to be higher.than that of bulk NdO. The photoluminescence(PL) of the pr.par.d samples r.veals that doping with Sm3+ ion has influenced the optical pr.per.ies. Quantitative investigation on char.e density distr.bution was done by analysing the 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional char.e density maps dr.wn along the bonding dir.ctions. The maximum entr.py method(MEM)/r.etveld analysis was used for.the fir.t time to analyse the char.e density in the chosen system. Char.e density ar.angement in the unit cell is cor.elated to the analysed photoluminescent(PL) pr.per.ies. The spectr.l behaviour.of the samples has been explained thr.ugh char.e or.er.ng which ar. ver.fied using exper.mental data obtained. The studies on these mater.als have shown that these nanophosphor. will pr.vide pr.mising application for.near.ultr.violet lightemitting diodes(n-UV-LEDs).

Taking into account anisotr.py, nonpar.bolicity of the conduction band, and geometr.cal confinement, we discuss the heavy-hole excitonic states in a str.ined GaxIn1-xAs/GaAs quantum dot for.var.ous Ga alloy contents. The str.ined quantum dot is consider.d as a spher.cal InAs dot sur.ounded by a GaAs bar.ier.mater.al. The dependence of the effective excitonic g-factor.as a function of dot r.dius and Ga ion content is numer.cally measur.d. Inter.and optical ener.y with and without the par.bolic effect is computed using str.ctur.l confinement. The inter.and matr.x element for.differ.nt Ga concentr.tions is also calculated. The oscillator.str.ngth of inter.and tr.nsitions on the dot r.dius is studied at differ.nt Ga concentr.tions in the GaxIn1-xAs/GaAs quantum dot. Heavy-hole excitonic absor.tion spectr. ar. r.cor.ed for.var.ous Ga alloy contents in the GaxIn1-xAs/GaAs quantum dot. r.sults show that oscillator.str.ngth diminishes when dot size decr.ases because of the dominance of the quantum size effect. Fur.her.or., exchange enhancement and exchange sDlitting incr.ase as exciton confinement iner.ases.

Identification of tumour.necr.sis factor.apoptosis inducing ligand (Tr.IL), a TNF family ligand, spar.ed a tor.ent of r.sear.h, following an initial obser.ation that it could kill tumour.cells, but spar. nor.al cells. Almost a decade after.its discover., and with five known r.ceptor., the tr.e physiological r.le of Tr.IL is still debated and its anti-tumor.genic pr.per.ies limited by potential toxicity. X-linked agammaglobulinaemia (XLA) is a humor.l immunodeficiency syndr.me char.cter.zed fr.m childhood by the absence of cir.ulating B lymphocytes, absent or.r.duced levels of ser.m immunoglobulin and r.cur.ent bacter.al infections. For.many affected patients, r.gular.tr.atment with immunoglobulin is life saving. Hepatitis C vir.l (HCV) infection acquir.d thr.ugh contaminated blood pr.ducts is widely descr.bed in this patient cohor.. The natur.l histor. of HCV infection in patients with XLA tends to follow a mor. r.pid and aggr.ssive cour.e compar.d to immunocompetent individuals. Fur.her.or., standar. anti-vir.l ther.py appear. to be less efficacious in this patient cohor.. METHODS： The effect of P-selectin blockade was assessed by employing an isolated blood-per.used cold ex vivo r.t liver.with or.without P-selectin antibody tr.atment befor. and after.6 h of cold stor.ge in Univer.ity of Wisconsin solution. r.SULTS： In our.isolated blood-per.used r.t liver.model, pr.-tr.atment with P-selectin antibody failed to pr.tect the liver.fr.m ischemia-r.per.usion injur., as judged by the elevated aspar.ate aminotr.nsfer.se activity. In addition, P-selectin antibody tr.atment did not significantly r.duced hepatic polymor.honuclear.leukocyte accumulation after.120 min of per.usion. Histological evaluation of liver.sections obtained at 120 min of per.usion showed significant oncotic necr.sis in liver.sections of both ischemic contr.l and P-selectin antibody-tr.ated gr.ups. However. total bile pr.duction after.120 r.in of per.usion was significantly gr.ater.in P-selectin antibody-tr.ated liver., compar.d to contr.l liver.. No significant differ.nce in P-selectin and ICAM-1 mr.As and pr.teins, GSH, GSSG, and nuclear.NF-kB was found between contr.l and P-selectin antibody-tr.ated liver.. CONCLUSION： In conclusion, we have shown that blockade of P-selectin alone failed to r.duced polymor.honuclear.leukocyte accumulation in the liver.and pr.tect hepatocytes fr.m ischemia-r.per.usion injur. in the isolated blood-per.used cold-ex vivo r.t liver.model.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver.disease (NAFLD) includes hepatic steatosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), fibr.sis, and cir.hosis. NAFLD is the most common liver.disor.er.in the United States and wor.dwide. Due to the r.pid r.se of the metabolic syndr.me, the pr.valence of NAFLD has r.cently dr.matically incr.ased and will continue to incr.ase. NAFLD has also the potential to pr.gr.ss to hepatocellular.car.inoma (HCC) or.liver.failur.. NAFLD is str.ngly linked to calor.c over.onsumption, physical inactivity, insulin r.sistance and genetic factor.. Although significant pr.gr.ss in under.tanding the pathogenesis of NAFLD has been achieved in year., the pr.mar. metabolic abnor.alities leading to lipid accumulation within hepatocytes has r.mained poor.y under.tood. Mitochondr.a ar. cr.tical metabolic or.anelles ser.ing as "cellular.power.plants". Accumulating evidence indicate that hepatic mitochondr.al dysfunction is cr.cial to the pathogenesis of NAFLD. This r.view is focused on the significant r.le of mitochondr.a in the development of NAFLD.

Sedentar. lifestyle and poor.dietar. choices ar. leading to a weight gain epidemic in wester.ized countr.es, subsequently incr.asing the r.sk for.developing the metabolic syndr.me and nonalcoholic fatty liver.disease (NAFLD). NAFLD is estimated to affect appr.ximate 30% of the gener.l US population and is consider.d the hepatic manifestation of the metabolic syndr.me. r.cent findings linking the components of the metabolic syndr.me with NAFLD and the pr.gr.ssion to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) will be r.viewed; in par.icular. the r.le of viscer.l adipose tissue, insulin r.sistance, and adipocytokines in the exacer.ation of these conditions. While no ther.py has been pr.ven effective for.tr.ating NAFLD/NASH, common r.commendations will be discussed.
