The potential is considered for use of microalloyed bar steels,in conjunction with thermomechanical processing,to enhance the properties of steels heat treated at higher process temperatures than have been used *** examples are highlighted:microalloyed spring steels with enhanced resistance to tempering and Nb-modified gear steels for high temperature vacuum carburizing,*** the order of 1050℃ versus 930℃ for a typical gas carburizing *** the spring steel example,the Nb+V steel results in significantly finer prior austenite grain sizes than the other steels considered,enhanced fatigue performance,and improved *** the Nb-modified carburizing steel,Nb additions up to 0.1 wt pct to a Ti-modified 8620 steel,in conjunction with thermomechanical processing to control initial precipitate distributions prior to carburizing,are shown to lead to materials with improved resistance to abnormal austenitic grain growth at the higher process *** content and heating rate to the carburizing temperature were shown to be important variables and suppression of abnormal grain growth was correlated with the development of a critical distribution of fine NbC precipitates,stable at the austenitizing temperature leading to improved fatigue performance in steels with fine and uniform grain *** for extending the results of this study to alloy design and controlled rolling in bar mills are assessed.

Calcium plays a vital role as a second messenger in many signaling pathways in plants. The calcineurin B-like proteins （CBLs） represent a family of plant calcium-binding proteins that function in calcium signaling by interacting with their interacting protein kinases （CIPks）. In our previous study, we have reported a role for one of the CBLs （CBL9） and one of the CIPks （CIPk3） in ABA signaling. Here, we have shown that CBL9 and CIPk3 physically and functionally interact with each other in regulating the ABA responses. The CBL9 and CIPk3 proteins interacted with each other in the yeast two- hybrid system and when expressed in plant cells. The double mutant cbl9cipk3 showed the similar hypersensitive response to ABA as observed in single mutants （cbl9 or cipk3）. The constitutively active form of CIPk3 genetically complemented the cbl9 mutant, indicating that CIPk3 function downstream of CBL9. Based on these findings, we conclude that CBL9 and CIPk3 act together in the same pathway for regulating ABA responses.

Characteristics, development and utilization of geothermal resources- a Nordic perspective

Geothermal energy is classified as a renewable energy source and it utilizes the heat generated in the earth primarily from the natural radioactive decay of isotopes of uranium, thorium and potassium. Heat is extracted from the earth to generate geothermal energy via a carrier, usually water occurring either in the liquid or steam phase. In the late 19th century and the early 20th century, the first developments of geothermal resources for power generation and household heating got underway successfully. Many of these geothermal fields are still being utilized today, proving their sustainability. Today geothermal energy is being utilized in more than 72 countries around the world and of the Nordic countries Iceland and Sweden have been in the forefront in each of their respective fields. While geothermal heat pumps are widely used for space heating in Sweden, geothermal energy covers 55% of the primary energy consumption in Iceland where it is used for space heating, power generation and industrial purposes. Future developments aim at expanding the range of viable geothermal resources by improving the capabilities to generate electricity from geothermal resources at temperatures as low as 100℃, as well as developing geothermal resources where water needs to be introduced, so-called hot dry rock resources. But the biggest expansion is expected to continue to be in the installations of geothermal heat pumps.

Cardiovascular complications following medical termination of pregnancy: An updated review

BACkGROUND Around 1 million cases of medical termination of pregnancy(MTP)take place yearly in the United States of America with around 2 percent of this population developing *** cardiovascular(CVD)complications occurring post MTP or after stillbirth is not very well *** To help the reader better understand,prepare,and manage these complications by reviewing various cardiac comorbidities seen after *** We performed a literature search in PubMed,Medline,RCA,and google scholar,using the search terms“abortions”or“medical/legal termination of pregnancy”and“cardiac complications”or“cardiovascular complications”.RESULTS The most common complications described in the literature following MTP were infective endocarditis(IE)(n=16),takotsubo cardiomyopathy(TTC)(n=7),arrhythmias(n=5),and sudden coronary artery dissection(SCAD)(n=4).The most common valve involved in IE was the tricuspid valve in 69%(n=10).The most observed causative organism was group B Streptococcus in 81%(n=12).The most common type of TTC was apical type in 57%(n=4).Out of five patients de veloping arrhythmia,bradycardia was the most common and was seen in 60%(3/5)of the *** four cases of SCAD-P type presented as acute coronary syndrome 10-14 d post termination of pregnancy with predominant involvement of the right coronary *** was only reported following IE in 6.25%.Clinical recovery was reported consistently after optimal medical management following all these *** In conclusion,the occurrence of CVD complications following pregnancy termination is infrequently documented in the existing *** this review,the most common CVD complication following MTP was noted to be IE and TTC.

Assembly of IMPDH2-Based,CTPS-Based,and Mixed Rod/Ring Structures Is Dependent on Cell Type and Conditions of Induction

Inhibition of guanosine triphosphate（GTP） and cytidine triphosphate（CTP） biosynthetic pathways induces cells to assemble rod/ring（RR） structures,also named cytoophidia,which consist of the enzymes cytidine triphosphate synthase（CTPS） and inosine-50-monophosphate dehydrogenase 2（IMPDH2）.We aim to explore the interaction of CTPS and IMPDH2 in the generation of RR *** La and COS-7 cells were cultured in normal conditions or in the presence of 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine（DON）,ribavirin,or mycophenolic acid（MPA）.Over 90% of DON-treated cells presented RR *** He La cells,35% of the RR structures were positive for IMPDH2 alone,26% were CTPS alone,and 31% were IMPDH2/CTPS mixed,while in COS-7 cells,42% of RR were IMPDH2 alone,41% were CTPS alone,and 10% were IMPDH2/CTPS *** and MPA treatments induced only IMPDH2-based *** were also transfected with an N-terminal hemagglutinin（NHA）-tagged CTPS1 *** 95% of NHA-CTPS1 transfected cells with DON treatment presented IMPDH2-based RR and almost 100% presented CTPS1-based RR;when treated with ribavirin,over 94% of transfected cells presented IMPDH2-based RR and 37% presented CTPS1-based RR,whereas 2% of untreated transfected cells presented IMPDH2-based RR and 28% presented CTPS1-based *** results may help in understanding the relationship between CTP and GTP biosynthetic pathways,especially concerning the formation of filamentous RR structures.

Numerous clinical and research applications necessitate the ability to interface with peripheral nerve fibers to read and control relevant neural pathways. Visceral organ modulation and rehabilitative prosthesis are two areas which could benefit greatly from improved neural interfacing approaches. Therapeutic neural interfacing, or ‘bioelectronic medicine’, has potential to affect a broad range of disorders given that all the major organs of the viscera are neurally innervated. However, a better understanding of the neural pathways that underlie function and a means to precisely interface with these fibers are required. Existing peripheral nerve interfaces, consisting primarily of electrode-based designs, are unsuited for highly specific （individual axon） communication and/or are invasive to the tissue. Our laboratory has explored an optogenetic approach by which optically sensitive reporters and actuators are targeted to specific cell （axon） types. The nature of such an approach is laid out in this short perspective, along with associated technologies and challenges.

The fields of behavioral ecology, conservation science, and environmental toxicology individually aim to protect and manage the conservation of wildlife in response to anthropogenic stressors, including widespread anthropogenic pollution. Although great emphasis in the field of toxicology has been placed on understanding how single pollutants affect survival, a comprehensive, interdis- ciplinary approach that includes behavioral ecology is essential to address how anthropogenic compounds are a risk for the survival of species and populations in an increasingly polluted world. We provide an integrative framework for behavioral ecotoxicology using Tinbergen＇s four postu- lates （causation and mechanism, development and ontogeny, function and fitness, and evolution- ary history and phylogenetic patterns）. The aims of this review are： 1） to promote an integrative view and re-define the field of integrative behavioral ecotoxicology; 2） to demonstrate how study- ing ecotoxicology can promote behavior research; and 3） to identify areas of behavioral ecotoxicol- ogy that require further attention to promote the integration and growth of the field.

Nutritional and vitamin status in patients with neuroendocrine neoplasms

Symptoms of gastroenteropancreatic located neuroendocrine neoplasms(GEPNENs) are often related to food intake and manifest as abdominal pain or diarrhoea which can influence patients nutritional status. Malnutrition is common in cancer patients and influences quality of life, treatment options and survival but is also present in up to 40% of patients with GEP-NENs. As part of malnutrition there are often deficiencies in fat-soluble vitamins, mainly vitamin D. Little knowledge exists on trace elements. Several factors influence the development of malnutrition such as size and localisation of the primary tumour as well as metastases, side effects from treatment but also hormone production of the tumour itself. One of the main influencing factors leading to malnutrition is diarrhoea which leads to dehydration and electrolyte disturbances. Treatment of diarrhoea should be guided by its cause. Screening for malnutrition should be part of routine care in every GEP-NEN patient. Multidisciplinary treatment including dietician support is necessary for all malnourished patients with GEP-NENs.
