Human-tiger(Panthera tigris Linnaeus,1758)conflicts(HTC),manifested primarily as attacks on people and domestic animals,exacerbate at least 2 major threats to tigers:(i)conflicts often result in mortality or removal of tigers from the wild;and(ii)they result in negative attitudes towards tigers by local people,thereby reducing support for tiger *** HTC has decreased over the past century,it will likely increase if current and proposed conservation initiatives to double tiger populations are *** HTC could undermine successful conservation initiatives if proactive steps are not taken to reduce *** present paper provides a review of the impacts of HTC and the measures taken to reduce it in ways that reduce negative impacts on both humans and tigers,and stresses the need for development and implementation of comprehensive plans to reduce HTC.

Background The characteristics of patients with acute ischaemic stroke(AiS)and their management vary across regions,which may influence *** examined for differential patterns of outcome between China and non-China participants of the ENhanced Control of Hypertension And Thrombolysis strokE stuDy(ENCHANTED),which tested different alteplase doses in *** ENCHANTED was an international,multicentre,open,blinded-endpoint trial of the effects of low-dose(0.6 mg/kg)versus standard-dose(0.9 mg/kg)intravenous alteplase on 90-day disability outcomes and symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage(siCH)in 3310 patients with *** Participants(n=1419,48%)in China were younger,and more often male,hypertensive and with prior stroke and coronary artery disease,but less likely to have atrial fibrillation and use antihypertensive,antithrombotic and lipid-lowering agents,compared with non-China patients with *** China participants had more AiS due to large artery occlusion,were treated later and had differing ancillary management,there was no significant difference in 90-day modified Rankin scale scores 2–6(55.6% vs 47.8%;OR,adjusted for baseline and management factors 0.87(95%Ci 0.71 to 1.07;p=0.20))and risk of siCH(Safe implementation of Thrombolysis in Stroke-Monitoring Study criteria:1.4% vs 1.8%;p=0.12)compared with non-China *** was no heterogeneity in the treatment effects of low-dose versus standard-dose alteplase between China and non-China *** Patients with AiS recruited to the ENCHANTED trial in China had similar outcomes in response to thrombolysis treatment despite significantly differing demographic,clinical and management factors to patients with AiS in other regions.

This paper presents an analytical approach for estimating frictional resistance to pipe movement at soil and external pipe surface of buried coated pressurized steel pipes relative to the internal thrust *** proposed analytical method was developed based on 36 experiments,which involved three coating types(cement mortar(CM),polyurethane type-i(PT-i),prefabricated plastic tape(PPT))on pipes’surfaces,three different soils(pea-gravel(PG),sand(S),silty-clay(SC)),and four simulated over burden depths above the pipe’s *** showed frictional resistance decreased with increasing over burden depth above the pipe’s *** degree of frictional resistance at the pipe-soil interface was found to be in the order of PG>SC>S for all coating variations and overburden *** coated pipe buried in all three types of soil produced significantly higher frictional resistance as compared to other coating *** on experimental data,the developed analytical introduced a dimensionless factor“Z”,which included effects of types of coatings,soil,and overburden depths for simplified rapid *** showed that the method provided a better prediction of frictional resistance forces,in comparison to previous analytical methods,which were barely close in predicting friction resistance for different coating variations,soil types,and overburden *** resistance force values reported herein could be considered conservative.

With increased computational power, reverse-time prestack depth migration（RT-PSDM） has become a preferred imaging tool in seismic exploration, yet its use has remained relatively limited in ground-penetrating radar（GPR） applications. Complex topography alters the wavefield kinematics making for a challenging imaging problem. Model simulations show that topographic variation can substantially distort reflection amplitudes due to irregular wavefield spreading, attenuation anomalies due to irregular path lengths, and focusing and defocusing effects at the surface. The effects are magnified when the topographic variations are on the same order as the depth of investigation––a situation that is often encountered in GPR investigations. Here, i use a full wave-equation RT-PSDM algorithm to image GPR data in the presence of large topographic variability relative to the depth of investigation. The source and receiver wavefields are propagated directly from the topographic surface and this approach inherently corrects for irregular kinematics, spreading and attenuation. The results show that when GPR data are acquired in areas of extreme topography, RT-PSDM can accurately reconstruct reflector geometry as well as reflection amplitude.

in this study, the application of artificial intelligence to monthly and seasonal rainfall forecasting in Queensland, Australia, was assessed by inputting recognized climate indices, monthly historical rainfall data, and atmospheric temperatures into a prototype stand-alone, dynamic, recurrent, time-delay, artificial neural network. Outputs, as monthly rainfall forecasts 3 months in advance for the period 1993 to 2009, were compared with observed rainfall data using time-series plots, root mean squared error （RMSE）, and Pearson correlation coefficients. A comparison of RMSE values with forecasts generated by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology＇s Predictive Ocean Atmosphere Model for Australia （POAMA）-i.5 general circulation model （GCM） indicated that the prototype achieved a lower RMSE for 16 of the 17 sites compared. The application of artificial neural networks to rainfall forecasting was reviewed. The prototype design is considered preliminary, with potential for significant improvement such as inclusion of output from GCMs and experimentation with other input attributes.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in China,with over 690000 lung cancer deaths estimated in *** mortality has increased about five-fold from the mid-1970s to the *** cancer lowdose computerized tomography(LDCT)screening in smokers was shown to improve survival in the US National Lung Screening Trial,and more recently in the European NELSON ***,although the predominant risk factor,smoking contributes to a lower fraction of lung cancers in China than in the UK and ***,it is necessary to establish Chinese-specific screening *** have been 23 associated programmes completed or still ongoing in China since the 1980s,mainly after 2000;and one has recently been ***,their entry criteria are not *** of the Chinese programmes have reported preliminary results only,which demonstrated a different high-risk subpopulation of lung cancer in *** concerning LDCT screening implementation is based on results of randomized controlled trials outside *** screening programmes combining tobacco control would produce more *** recruitment(***-based selection),screening protocol,nodule management and costeffectiveness are discussed in *** China,the high-risk subpopulation eligible for lung cancer screening has not as yet been confirmed,as all the risk parameters have not as yet been *** evidence on best practice for implementation of lung cancer screening has been accumulating in other countries,further research in China is urgently required,as China is now facing a lung cancer epidemic.
