Objective: To compare th. differences in intake and excretion between Musca domestica and oth.r th.ee species from families Muscidae and Calliph.ridae wh.ch.may h.lp explaining th. significance of h.use fly in th. transmission of ***: Th. four adult species were supplied with.two concentrations of sucrose via modified capillary feeder assay system. Th. two sucrose concentrations were applied to one adult male/each.experiment and th. elimination spots were counted. Using 0.25 mol/L sucrose + 0.25% bromoph.nol blue, one active non-starved male/cup was observed carefully for 1 h.to record its beh.vior. As a growing medium used in bacterial transmission experiments, undiluted trypticase soy broth.was used to feed 3-day-old females and males of Musca domestica following two different diets upon emergence and th. frequency of elimination spots was ***: Th. two Musca species h.ve h.lf th. weigh. of th. two Ph.rmia *** th. volume of intake per h.ur, h.use fly took as much.as th. oth.r species, all of wh.ch.were larger. h.use fly produced twice, or more, th. number of elimination spots/h.th.n th. oth.r th.ee species. Feeding th. flies a sugar liquid diet resulted in producing more fecal spots th.n regurgitation spots. Th. male h.use flies produced less elimination spots/h.wh.n fed with.trypticase soy broth.th.n with.th. two sucrose ***: h.use flies eliminated more th.n th. oth.r examined fly species and most of th.se elimination events were defecation wh.ch.implicates th. fecal route for path.gen transmission by th.s important vector.

Th. focus of th.s study was to investigate th. macroinvertebrate community in surface mine wetlands. Nine wetlands were sampled for macroinvertebrates from July 1993 th.ough.May *** sites represented a range of ph.sical,ch.mical, and biological parameters. Macroinvertebrates were found in all sites;a total of 14 orders, 40 families,and 70 genera were identified in th. samples. Insects were th. most common invertebrates,and most functional feeding groups were represented. Predators dominated with.63% of th. taxa, followed by th. collector/gath.rs with.20%,sh.edders 14%, and scrapers 3%. Sites differed in th. number of taxa inh.biting *** ranged from 10 genera to *** lowest rich.ess was found in two seasonal wetlands th.t were dry for th. majority of th. year. A permanently flooded site with.no water quality problems and a dense growth.of aquatic plants h.d th. h.gh.st rich.ess.

Spatial distributions of animals can affect interactions with.th.ir natural enemies,such.as parasites,and th.s h.ve important implications for h.st-parasite *** spatial variation in infection risk h.s been explored in many systems at th. landscape scale,less attention h.s been paid to spatial structure at smaller ***,we explore a h.poth.sized relationsh.p between a common spatial variable,vertical position,and risk of parasite infection in a model aquatic system,larval frogs(Rana)and trematode(Digenea)*** position is relevant to th.s system given evidence th.t th. densities of snail first intermediate h.sts,tadpole second intermediate h.sts,and trematode infective stages can vary with.*** test th. effects of depth.on infection risk of larval frogs by trematodes,we performed two enclosure experiments,one in th. laboratory and one in th. field,in wh.ch.larval frogs in cages just below th. water surface or near th. bottom of th. water column were exposed to *** with.near-surface cages,mean infection load(number of cysts)in tadpoles in near-bottom cages was 83%h.gh.r after 48-h.exposures in th. laboratory and 730%h.gh.r after 10-day exposures in th. *** findings th.s indicate th.t infection risk depends on depth.wh.ch.may h.ve adaptive significance,as tadpoles h.ve previously been sh.wn to ch.nge vertical position in response to parasite *** results motivate future work examining vertical variation in infection risk and may h.ve broader implications for h.st-parasite dynamics and evolution of h.st and parasite beh.vior.

At present,th.re is no reliable biomarker for th. diagnosis of traumatic brain injury(TBI).Studies h.ve sh.wn th.t extracellular vesicles released by damaged cells into biological fluids can be used as potential biomarkers for diagnosis of TBI and evaluation of TBI *** h.poth.size th.t th. genetic profile of salivary extracellular vesicles in patients with.h.ad trauma differs from th.t in uninjured *** from th.s h.poth.sis would h.lp investigate th. severity of *** study included 19 subjects,consisting of seven h.alth. controls wh. denied h.story of h.ad trauma,six patients diagnosed with.concussion injury from an outpatient concussion clinic,and six patients with.TBI wh. received treatment in th. emergency department with.n 24 h.urs after ***-time PCR analysis of salivary extracellular vesicles in participants was performed using TaqMan h.man Inflammation *** expression analysis revealed nine upregulated genes in emergency department patients(LOX5,ANXA3,CASP1,IL2RG,ITGAM,ITGB2,LTA4h.MAPK14,and TNFRSF1A)and 13 upregulated genes in concussion clinic patients compared with.h.alth. participants(ADRB1,ADRB2,BDKRB1,h.h.,h.h.,LTB4R2,LTB4R,PTAFR,CYSLTR1,CES1,KLK1,MC2R,and PTGER3).Each.patient group h.d a unique *** between groups sh.wed th.t 15 inflammation-related genes h.d significant expression *** results indicate th.t inflammation biomarkers can be used for diagnosis of TBI and evaluation of disease *** study was approved by th.
