Repeat Rf.Ablation of.C2 and Third Occipital Nerves f.r Recurrent Occipital Neuralgia and Cervicogenic Headaches

Objective: To address the degree and duration of.pain relief.f.om recurrent cervicogenic headaches and/or occipital neuralgia f.llowing retreatment with radiof.equency ablation of.the C2 dorsal root ganglion and/or third occipital nerves;to review outcomes including duration and degree of.pain relief.to evaluate procedure’s complication rate and patient’s willingness to repeat the procedure;to compare ef.ectiveness of.the most recent Rf.ablation to patient’s f.rst Rf.ablation. Methods: This is a single-center retrospective observational study of.23 patients with recurrent cervicogenic headaches and/or occipital neuralgia treated with repeated Rf.ablation of.the C2 dorsal root ganglion and/or third occipital nerves. All patients receiving treatment f.om January 2010 to July 2014 are included in this single site retrospective study. This is an IRB approved medical chart review study. Results: 22 of.23 patients underwent f.llow-up. An average of.86.5% of.participants reported pain relief.on average of.25.4 weeks at time of.f.llow-up. 41% reported side ef.ects including suboccipital hyperesthesia and/or ear discomf.rt, 95% reported willingness to repeat the procedure again if.severe symptoms recurred, 59% of.patients reported the most recent Rf.ablation had the same results as the f.rst, 32% reported the most recent Rf.was the most ef.ective, and 9% reported that the f.rst Rf.was the most ef.ective. Conclusion: Repeated Rf.ablation is a f.asible option f.r recurrent cervicogenic headaches and/or occipital neuralgia. Ef.ectiveness of.repeat intervention is the same or better than the f.rst ablation. Though there was a higher likelihood of.side ef.ects including suboccipital neuralgia and/or ear discomf.rt on repeat treatment, the side ef.ects were generally well tolerated.

Transf.rmer f.r the Design of.Automatic Control Systems with Pref.lters

A machine learning model, using the transf.rmer architecture, is used to design a f.edback compensator and pref.lter f.r various simulated plants. The output of.the transf.rmer is a sequence of.compensator and pref.lter parameters. The compensator and pref.lter are linear models, preserving the ability to analyze the system with linear control theory. The input to the network is a window of.recent ref.rence and output samples. The goal of.the transf.rmer is to minimize tracking error at each time step. The plants under consideration range f.om simple to challenging. The more dif.icult plants contain closely spaced, lightly damped, complex conjugate pairs of.poles and zeros. Results are compared to PID controllers tuned f.r a similar crossover f.equency and optimal phase margin. f.r simple plants, the transf.rmer converges to solutions which overly rely on the pref.lter, neglecting the maximization of.negative f.edback. f.r more complex plants, the transf.rmer designs a compensator and pref.lter with more desirable qualities. In all cases, the transf.rmer can start with random model parameters and modif. them to minimize tracking error on the step ref.rence.

Telomeric DNA breaks in human induced pluripotent stem cells trigger ATR-mediated arrest and telomerase-independent telomere damage repair

Although mechanisms of.telomere protection are well-def.ned in dif.erentiated cells,how stem cells sense and respond to telomere dysf.nction,in particular telomeric double-strand breaks(DSBs),is poorly ***,we report the DNA damage signaling,cell cycle,and transcriptome changes in human induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSCs)in response to telomere-internal *** engineer human iPSCs with an inducible TRf.-f.kI f.sion protein to acutely induce DSBs at *** this model,we demonstrate that TRf.-f.kI DSBs activate an ATR-dependent DNA damage response,which leads to p53-independent cell cycle arrest in *** CRISPR–Cas9 to cripple the catalytic domain of.telomerase reverse transcriptase,we show that telomerase is largely dispensable f.r survival and lengthening of.TRf.-f.kI-cleaved telomeres,which instead are ef.ectively repaired by robust homologous recombination(HR).In contrast to HR-based telomere maintenance in mouse embryonic stem cells,where HR causes ZSCAN4-dependent extension of.telomeres beyond their initial lengths,HR-based repair of.telomeric breaks is suf.icient to maintain iPSC telomeres at a normal length,which is compatible with sustained survival of.the cells over several days of.TRf.-f.kI *** f.ndings suggest a previously unappreciated role f.r HR in telomere maintenance in telomerase-positive iPSCs and reveal distinct iPSC-specif.c responses to targeted telomeric DNA damage.

Optimization of.Stealthwatch Network Security System f.r the Detection and Mitigation of.Distributed Denial of.Service (DDoS) Attack: Application to Smart Grid System

The Smart Grid is an enhancement of.the traditional grid system and employs new technologies and sophisticated communication techniques f.r electrical power transmission and distribution. The Smart Grid’s communication network shares inf.rmation about status of.its several integrated IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices). However, the IEDs connected throughout the Smart Grid, open opportunities f.r attackers to interf.re with the communications and utilities resources or take clients’ private data. This development has introduced new cyber-security challenges f.r the Smart Grid and is a very concerning issue because of.emerging cyber-threats and security incidents that have occurred recently all over the world. The purpose of.this research is to detect and mitigate Distributed Denial of.Service [DDoS] with application to the Electrical Smart Grid System by deploying an optimized Stealthwatch Secure Network analytics tool. In this paper, the DDoS attack in the Smart Grid communication networks was modeled using Stealthwatch tool. The simulated network consisted of.Secure Network Analytic tools virtual machines (VMs), electrical Grid network communication topology, attackers and Target VMs. f.nally, the experiments and simulations were perf.rmed, and the research results showed that Stealthwatch analytic tool is very ef.ective in detecting and mitigating DDoS attacks in the Smart Grid System without causing any blackout or shutdown of.any internal systems as compared to other tools such as GNS3, NeSSi2, NISST f.amework, OMNeT++, INET f.amework, ReaSE, NS2, NS3, M5 Simulator, OPNET, PLC & TIA Portal management Sof.ware which do not have the capability to do so. Also, using Stealthwatch tool to create a security baseline f.r Smart Grid environment, contributes to risk mitigation and sound security hygiene.

Background The timing of.behavior and habitat use of.nocturnal animals can be inf.uenced by the lunar cycle in nature. The prevalence of.artif.cial light at night(ALAN) has been recognized as a source of.environmental pol-lution. The interaction between ALAN and the lunar cycle on bat behavior is important f.r understanding anthro-pogenic ef.ects on bats. We utilized a decade(2012–2022) of.acoustic monitoring data collected in North Carolina, United States, to investigate the relationship between bat activity, lunar cycle, and light pollution. We examined whether the amount of.lunar illumination af.ected species-specif.c nightly activity and whether hourly bat activity patterns varied between nights with dif.erent moon phases. We f.rther investigated if.the relationship between bat activity and the lunar cycle might be altered by light *** We f.und that seven bat species showed activity variation across nights in relation to the amount of.moon illumination when ALAN was absent. In general, bats were less active on f.ll moon nights compared to new moon nights. Light pollution interacted with the bat–lunar relationship in f.ve of.the seven species, masking the ef.ect of.the lunar cycle. We identif.ed delayed bat activity patterns on nights with a f.ll or waxing moon in seven species, and light pollution altered that pattern in f.ur species. Overall, ALAN was associated with decreased bat activity inde-pendent of.lunar cycle *** Our study demonstrated that at a broad spatial scale, ALAN negatively af.ected many North American temperate bat species and altered their lunar chronobiology. As light pollution is spreading to historically dark areas and habitats, ALAN might couple with other threats, such as the white-nose syndrome or climate change, to cause cascading damage in the environment that depends on ecosystem services such as pest control provided by bats. Volume is an important attribute used in many f.rest management *** f.om 83 f.xed-area plots located in central New Brunswick,Canada,are used to examine how dif.erent measures of.stand-level diameter and height inf.uence volume prediction using a stand-level variant of.Honer's(1967)volume *** density was included in the models(Volume=f.Diameter,Height,Density))choice of.diameter measure was more important than choice of.height *** density was not included(Volume=f.Diameter,Height)),the opposite was *** models with density included,moment-based estimators of.stand diameter and height perf.rmed better than all other *** models without density,largest tree estimators of.stand diameter and height perf.rmed better than other *** overall best equation used quadratic mean diameter,Lorey's height,and density(root mean square error=5.26 m^3·ha^(-1);1.9%relative error).The best equation without density used mean diameter of.the largest trees needed to calculate a stand density index of.400 and the mean height of.the tallest 400 trees per ha(root mean square error=32.08 m^(3)·ha^(-1);11.8%relative error).The results of.this study have some important implications f.r height subsampling and LiDAR-derived f.rest inventory analyses.

Calcium-mediated paired pulse depression in juvenile rat dorsal striatum

As the major division of.the basal ganglia, neostriatum f.rms mutual connections with multiple brain areas and is critically involved in motor control and learning/memory. Long-term synaptic plasticity has been widely studied in dif.erent species recently. However, there are rare reports about the short-term synaptic plasticity in neostratium. In the present study, using f.eld excitatory postsynaptic potentials recording, we reported one f.rm of.short-term synaptic plasticity that is paired pulse depression in juvenile rat dorsal striatum slices induced by stimuli of.the white matter. The f.eld excitatory postsynaptic potentials could be abolished by α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methylizoxazole-4-propionic acid receptor antagonist, 6-cyano-7-nitroquinoxaline-2,3-dione, but not by gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor antagonist bicuculline or dopamine D1 receptor antagonist SKf.81297. The paired pulse depression in the corticostratial pathway was dif.erent f.om paired pulse f.cilitation in the hippocampal CA1 synapse. In addition, the paired pulse depression was not af.ected by bath application of.gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor antagonist or dopamine D1 receptor antagonist. However, low calcium and high magnesium could attenuate the paired pulse depression. These f.ndings suggest a more complicated plasticity f.rm in the dorsal striatum of.juvenile rats that is dif.erent f.om that in the hippocampus, which is related with extracellular calcium.
