In endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD),the narrow gastrointestinal space can cause difficulty in surgical *** ablation apparatuses with high-power CO_(2) lasers or Nd:YAG lasers have been developed to facilitate endoscopic surgical *** studied the interaction of 808-nm laser light with a porcine stomach tissue,with the aim of developing a therapeutic medical device that can remove lesions at the gastrointestinal wall by irradiating a near-infrared laser light incorporated in an endoscopic *** perforation depths at the porcine fillet and the stomach tissues linearly increased in the range of 2–8mm in proportion to the laser energy density of 63.7–382 kJ/cm^(2).Despite the distinct structural and compositional di®erence,the variation of the perforation depth between the stomach and the fillet was not found at 808-nm wavelength in our *** further studied the laser–tissue interaction by changing the concentration of the methyl blue solution used conventionally as a submucosal fluidic cushion(SFC)in ESD *** temperature of the mucosal layer increased more rapidly at higher concentration of the methyl blue solution,because of enhanced light absorption at the SFC *** insertion of the SFC would protect the muscle layer from thermal *** confirmed that more effective laser treatment should be enabled by tuning the opto-thermal properties of the *** study can contribute to the optimization of the driving parameters for laser incision techniques as an alternative to conventional surgical interventions.

Osteoporosis is a systemic bone disease that affects more than 200 million people worldwide and is caused by the disruption of the equilibrium between osteoclastic bone resorption and osteoblastic bone formation. Sphingosine-1-phosphate(S1 P) is a natural,bioactive sphingolipid that has been shown to play a major role in cardiovascular and immunological pathologies by regulating biological and cellular processes, including migration, differentiation, proliferation and survival. Recent studies also suggest a central role for S1 P in bone diseases, including osteoporosis;however, the effects of S1 P, particularly in bone metabolism, remain to be further elucidated. In this review, we summarize the available literature on the role of S1 P in bone metabolism with a focus on osteoporosis. On the cellular level, S1 P acts as an osteoclast-osteoblast coupling factor to promote osteoblast proliferation and bone formation. moreover, the recruitment of osteoclast precursors to resorption sites is regulated by the interplay of S1 P gradients and S1 P receptor expression. From a clinical perspective, increasing evidence suggests that systemically elevated S1 P blood levels may serve as an independent risk factor for osteoporosis-related fractures. Taken together, S1 P signaling is a potential therapeutic target and may serve as a novel biomarker in patients with systemic bone disease.

This study investigated the deterioration of a lubricant-infused anodic aluminium oxide surface in a 1m NaCl solution for~200 *** observation by cryo-SEm and quantitative analyses by UV spectroscopy and EIS revealed that the long-term deterioration of the lubricant-infused surface was divided into two stages:the surface-adhered lubricant layer gradually dissolved at a constant rate until the substrate was exposed;afterwards the lubricant infused in the nanochannels began to diffuse and was depleted after~200 *** EIS results also revealed that the defects reduced the corrosion resistance of the lubricant-infused surface considerably.

Almost every experimental treatment strategy using non-autologous cell, tissue or organ transplantation is tested in small and large animal models before clinical translation. Because these strategies require immunosuppression in most cases, immunosuppressive protocols are a key element in transplantation experiments. However, standard immunosuppressive protocols are often applied without detailed knowledge regarding their efficacy within the particular experimental setting and in the chosen model species. Optimization of such protocols is pertinent to the translation of experimental results to human patients and thus warrants further investigation. This review summarizes current knowledge regarding immunosuppressive drug classes as well as their dosages and application regimens with consideration of species-specific drug metabolization and side effects. It also summarizes contemporary knowledge of novel immunomodulatory strategies, such as the use of mesenchymal stem cells or antibodies. Thus, this review is intended to serve as a state-of-the-art compendium for researchers to refine applied experimental immunosuppression and immunomodulation strategies to enhance the predictive value of preclinical transplantation studies.

Orthognathic surgery in general addresses young patients and aims to improve their bite function and to harmonize their facial aesthetics. Secure surgical standards and a defined post-surgical protocol of after-care are indispensable to reduce surgical as well as anaesthesiological risks in this area of complex elective surgery. The development of pneumomediastinum is a rare incident but threatens the patients’ physical integrity. The case of a young healthy male who underwent Le Fort I osteotomy in combination with bilateral mandibular sagittal split osteotomy and postoperatively developed pneumomediastinum is presented, together with a discussion of the possible reasons for this rare complication of orthognathic surgery. The avoidance of life-threatening coincidences must be one main focus in the preparation and aftercare in elective orthognathic surgery.

Background: Within the framework of close-to-nature forestry, oak forest(Quercus robur, Q. petraea) regeneration techniques that consider both silvicultural and nature conservation demands have become a very important *** there are many experimental and local studies that aim at disentangling the relationships between different environmental and silvicultural factors and the success of oak regeneration, systematic supra-regional studies at the greater landscape level are missing so *** this background, the first objective(a) of this study was to present an efficient and sufficiently accurate sampling scheme for supra-regional forest regrowth inventories, which we applied to young oaks stands. The second, and major, objective(b) was to identify the crucial success factors for high-quality oak forest regeneration in northwest ***: Objective(a): Factors that have been identified as potentially crucial for the success or failure of oak regeneration were either included in a field inventory procedure or extracted from forest inventory databases. We found that the collected data were suitable to be analyzed in a three-step success model, which was aimed at identifying the crucial success factors for high-quality oak forest ***(b): Our modeling procedure, which included a Bayesian estimation approach with spike-and-slab priors,revealed that competitive pressure from the secondary tree species was the most decisive success factor;no competition, or low competition by secondary tree species appeared to be particularly beneficial for the success of high-quality oak regeneration.
