Patient-reported outcomes measures form the backbone of outcomes evaluation in orthopaedics,with most of the literature now relying on these scoring tools to measure change in patient health *** patient-reported information is increasingly collected routinely by orthopaedic providers but use of the data is typically restricted to academic *** in electronic data capture and the outcome tools themselves now allow use of this data as part of the clinical *** review evaluates the role of patient reported outcomes data as a tool to enhance daily orthopaedic clinical practice,and documents how developments in electronic outcome measures,computer-adaptive questionnaire design and instant graphical display of questionnaire can facilitate enhanced patientclinician shared decision making.

This contribution presents a novel wear dependent virtual flow rate sensor for single stage single lobe progressing cavity pumps. We study the wear-induced material loss of the pump components and the impact of this material loss on the volumetric efficiency. The results are combined with an established backflow model to implement a backflow calculation procedure that is adaptive to wear. We use a laboratory test setup with a highly abrasive fluid and operate a pump from new to worn condition to validate our approach. The obtained measurement data show that the presented virtual sensor is capable of calculating the flow rate of a pump being subject to wear during its regular operation.

Carbyne is an infinitely long linear chain of carbon atoms with sp1hybridization and the truly one-dimensional allotrope of *** obtaining freestanding carbyne is still an open challenge,the study of confined carbyne,linear chains of carbon encapsulated in carbon nanotubes,provides a pathway to explore carbyne and its remarkable properties in a well-defined *** this review,we discuss the basics and recent advances in studying single confined carbyne chains by Raman spectroscopy,which is their primary spectroscopic characterization *** highlight where single carbyne chain studies are needed to advance our understanding of confined carbyne as a material system and provide an overview of the open questions that need to be addressed and of those aspects currently under debate.

For more than six decades, chromic acid anodizing （CAA） has been the central process in the surface pre-treatment of aluminum for adhesively bonded aircraft structures. Unfortunately, this electrolyte contains hexavalent chromium （Cr（VI））, a compound known for its toxicity and carcinogenic properties. To comply with the new strict international regulations, the Cr（VI）-era will soon have to come to an end. Anodizing aluminum in acid electrolytes produces a self-ordered porous oxide layer. Although different acids can be used to create this type of structure, the excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance that is currently achieved by the complete Cr（VI）-based process is not easily matched. This paper provides a critical overview and appraisal of proposed alternatives to CAA, including combinations of multiple anodizing steps, pre- and post anodizing treatments. The work is presented in terms of the modifications to the oxide properties, such as morphological features （e.g., pore size, barrier layer thickness） and surface chemistry, in order to evaluate the link between fundamental principles of adhesion and bond performance.

Rice straw is supposed to be an environment-friendly biomaterial for inhibiting the growth of harmful blooms of the cyanobacterium microcystis aeruginosa. However, its potential mechanism is not well known. To explore this mechanism, the growth, cell viability(esterase activity, membrane potential, and membrane integrity), photosynthesis, and cell size of m. aeruginosa were determined using fl ow cytometry and Phyto-PAm after exposure to rice straw extracts(RSE). The results show that doses from 2.0 to 10.0 g/L of RSE effi ciently inhibited the alga for 15 days, while the physiologic and morphologic responses of the cyanobacteria were time-dependent. RSE interfered with the cell membrane potential, cell size, and in vivo chlorophyll- a fl uorescence on the fi rst day. After 7 days of exposure, RSE was transported into the cytosol, which disrupted enzyme activity and photosynthesis. The cyanobacteria then started to repair its physiology(enzyme activity, photosynthesis) and remained viable, suggesting that rice straw act as an algistatic agent.

In a series of seven papers in Nature and Nature medicine,the TRACERx study group presents multi-omic analyses of 421 non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)patients,which have yielded a comprehensive map of intratumor heterogeneity(ITH)and lung cancer evolutionary trajectories at an unprecedented level of detail.1–7 The in-depth molecular data,and their subsequent integrated analyses,hold the potential to not only shine light on lung cancer progression but also influence a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines,research fields,and clinical oncology,thereby enhancing our understanding of cancer in general.

Artificial neural network(ANN)potentials enable the efficient large-scale atomistic modeling of complex materials with near firstprinciples *** molecular dynamics simulations,accurate energies and interatomic forces are a prerequisite,but training ANN potentials simultaneously on energies and forces from electronic structure calculations is computationally ***,we introduce an efficient alternative method for the training of ANN potentials on energy and force information,based on an extrapolation of the total energy via a Taylor *** translating the force information to approximate energies,the quadratic scaling with the number of atoms exhibited by conventional force-training methods can be avoided,which enables the training on reference datasets containing complex atomic structures.
