Underground coal Gasification(UcG)is a mining-gasification process that produces synthesis gas from in situ coal by injecting air(or oxygen and steam)and extracting the produced gas via *** resulting synthesis gas(‘syngas’)produced by UcG can be used directly as a fuel-gas or deep-cleaned to produce many other products like chemicals,liquid fuels,hydrogen and synthetic natural *** has significant environmental,safety and practical advantages over conventional coal mining and utilization,foremost being cost and emissions *** South Africa,facilities of an industrial-scale Fischer-Tropsch(FT)have been operating for decades on coal-to-liquid and gas-to-liquid ***-blown UcG produces syngas,which contains a mixture of carbon monoxide(cO)and hydrogen,and these molecules can be conditioned to serve as feed for synthetic-crude-oil(‘syncrude’)conversion technologies based on the FT *** carbon Energy(Pty)Ltd.(Africary)completed a study integrating its UcG technology with mini gas-to-liquids *** from Africary’s Theunissen Underground coal Gasification(TUcG)project will be used for power production and synthesis of liquid fuels in a unique poly-generation *** TUcG process will consist of two parallel gasifiers,operated on different agents,making the component parts of UcG and coal-to-(any product)(ctX)tightly linked and interdependent,but reducing both cost and ***-ctX offers a lower capital investment to conventional underground mining and surface gasification due to the removal of the surface gasifier and coal-mine *** gas clean-up systems will remove undesirable components from each gasifier and blend the cleaned syngas for H2:cO ratio control and provide implementation of carbon capture and *** study has minimized the complexity and optimized the process flow to provide own-use electricity and about 4000 barrels/day equivalent fuels at a capital cost estimate(2017)of

Exploring well-being disparities between urban and rural areas:A case study in the Stavropol Territory,Russia

Rural areas are crucial for a country’s sustainable *** strategies are needed to develop rural areas to improve the well-being of rural population and generate new job *** is especially important in countries where agricultural production accounts for a significant share of the gross product,such as *** this study,we identified the key indicators of satisfaction and differences between rural and urban citizens based on their social,economic,and environmental backgrounds,and determined whether there are well-being disparities between rural and urban areas in the Stavropol Territory,*** collected primary data through a survey based on the European Social Survey framework to investigate the potential differences between rural and urban *** computing the regional well-being index using principal component analysis,we found that there was no statistically significant difference in well-being between rural and urban *** of key indicators showed that rural residents felt psychologically more comfortable and safer,assessed their family relationships better,and adhered more to traditions and ***,urban residents showed better economic and social conditions(e.g.,infrastructures,medical care,education,and Internet access).The results of this study imply that we can better understand the local needs,advantages,and unique qualities,thereby gaining insight into the effectiveness of government ***-makers and local authorities can consider targeted interventions based on the findings of this study and strive to enhance the well-being of both urban and rural residents.

The purpose of this study is to correlate demography and socio-economic aspects at Irrigated Smallholder Agricultural Enterprises and their association with the cultivation of Maize in order to determine its positive impacts at irrigated smallholders’ agricultural entrepreneurs’ household. chi-square test was used as descriptive analysis method. The Fischer Exact tests were employed to test demography (gender, age, education, and income) in winter and summer production season of irrigated smallholder agricultural enterprises and their association with the cultivation of selected field crop (i.e. maize). The results show that gender results were not being statistically significant, as measured by the Phi measure of effect size, φ = 0.149, p = 0.011, and φ = 0.05, p = 0.392 in summer. As far as age is concern, it appears to be a statistically significant association between cultivating maize and age in winter, φ = 0.046, p = 0.730 in winter and φ = 0.172, p = 0.013. Education winter result not being statistically significant, the effect size showed a weak association, as measured by the Phi measure of effect size, φ = 0.112, p = 0.305 and φ = 0.035, p = 0.948 in summer. Income result not being statistically significant, as measured by the Phi measure of effect size, φ = 0.049, p = 0.399 and φ = 0.081, p = 0.166 in summer. In conclusion, the study shows that the development of best management practices must be based on a comprehensive analysis of the livelihoods and irrigated smallholder agricultural enterprise farming styles of participating irrigated smallholder agricultural entrepreneurs.

Maximizing recovery time between knock-out races improves sprint cross-country skiing performance

Background:In a sprint cross-country(Xc)ski competition,the difference in recovery times separating the first and the second semi-final(SF)heats from the final(F)may affect *** aim of the current study was to compare the effects of longer *** recovery periods prescribed between the 3 knock-out races of a simulated sprint Xc ski competition involving a prologue(P),quarter-final(QF),SF,and ***:Eleven well-trained Xc ski athletes completed 2 simulated sprint Xc ski competitions on a treadmill involving 4×883-m roller-ski bouts at a 4°incline using the gear 3 ski-skating *** first 3 bouts were completed at a fixed speed(PFIX,QFFIX,and SFFIX)corresponding to~96%of each individual’s previously determined maximal *** final bout was performed as a self-paced sprint time trial(FSTT).Test conditions differed by the time durations prescribed between the QFFIX,SFFIX,and FSTT,which simulated real-world Xc ski competition conditions using maximum(MAX-REc)or minimum(MIN-REc)recovery ***:The FSTT was completed 5.4±5.5 s faster(p=0.009)during MAX-REc(179.2±18.1 s)compared to MIN-REc(184.6±20.0 s),and this was linked to a significantly higher power output(p=0.010)and total metabolic rate(p=0.009).The pre FSTT blood lactate(BLa)concentration was significantly lower during MAX-REc compared to MIN-REc(2.5±0.8 mmol/L vs.3.6±1.6 mmol/L,respectively;p=0.027),and the pre-to-post FSTT increase in BLa was greater(8.8±2.1 mmol/L vs.7.1±2.3 mmol/L,respectively;p=0.024).No other differences for MAX-REc ***-REc reached significance(p>0.05).conclusion:Performance in a group of well-trained Xc skiers is negatively affected when recovery times between sprint heats are minimized which,in competition conditions,would occur when selecting the last QF *** result is combined with a higher pre-race BLa concentration and a reduced rise in BLa concentration under shorter recovery *** findings may help inform decision making when

The aim of this study was to correlate plumage variation with the amount of genomic hybrid content in hybrids between Azure Tits cyanistes cyanus(Pallas,1770)and European Blue Tit cyanistes caeruleus(Linnaeus,1758),by re-sequencing the genomes of museum specimens of non-hybrids and presumed hybrids with varying *** project was funded by crowdsourcing and initiated when two presumed Azure Tits,observed by hundreds of Swedish birdwatchers,were rejected as hybrids based on minor plumage deviations assumed to indicate hybrid contents from the European Blue *** results confirm that hybrids with intermediate plumages,so called Pleske’s Tits,are first generation hybrids(F1 hybrids).Individuals,whose plumages are similar to Azure Tits,but assessed as hybrids based on minor plumage deviations,are all backcrosses but vary in their degree of hybrid ***,some individuals morphologically recognized as pure Azure Tits expressed similar degrees of hybrid *** results indicate that:(1)hybrid content may be widespread in Azure Tits in the western part of its habitat distribution;(2)plumage deviation in backcrosses is not linearly correlated with the genetic degree of hybrid origin;and(3)all Azure Tits observed in Europe outside its natural distribution may have some degree of hybrid *** therefore suggest that it is very difficult to phenotypically single out hybrids beyond first generation *** argue that decreased sequencing costs and improved analytical tools open the doors for museomic crowd-sourced projects that may not address outstanding biological questions but have a major interest for lay citizens such as birdwatchers.
