Fast-neutron （FN） irradiation has been used to create mutagen- ized collections of many plant species （Bolon et al., 2014）, FN- induced mutagenesis has clear advantages： it is an efficient means of saturating the genome, and it does not involve time- consuming plant transformation or tissue culture. In rice, most mutant collections, although highly valuable, were generated us- ing either T-DNA insertion or transposon tagging approaches that often induce mutations unlinked to the insertion and complicating analysis （Wang et al., 2013）. Another disadvantage of some of these collections is that they were created in rice varieties that are photoperiod-sensitive and often have long generation times.

AIM To determine the frequency of bleeding source detection in patients with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding(OGIB) who underwent double balloon enteroscopy(DBE) after pre-procedure imaging [multiphase computed tomography enterography(MpcTE), video capsule endoscopy(VcE), or both] and assess the impact of imaging on DBE diagnostic *** Retrospective cohort study using a prospectively maintained database of all adult patients presenting with OGIB who underwent DBE from September 1^(st), 2002 to june 30^(th), 2013 at a single tertiary *** Four hundred and ninety five patients(52% females; median age 68 years) underwent DBE for OGIB. AVcE and/or MpcTE performed within 1 year prior to DBE(in 441 patients) increased the diagnostic yield of DBE(67.1% with preceding imaging vs 59.5% without). Using DBE as the gold standard, VcE and MpcTE had a diagnostic yield of 72.7% and 32.5% respectively. There were no increased odds of finding a bleeding site at DBE compared to VcE(OR = 1.3, p = 0.150). There were increased odds of finding a bleeding site at DBE compared to MpcTE(OR = 5.9, p patients with overt OGIB, diagnostic yield of DBE was not affected by preceding *** DBE is a safe and well-tolerated procedure for the diagnosis and treatment of OGIB, with a diagnostic yield that may be increased after obtaining a preceding VcE or MpcTE. However, inpatients with active ongoing bleeding may benefit from proceeding directly to antegrade DBE.

This article is devoted to the thermophysical and mechanical study of an eco-material, poto-poto. The objective is to study the influence of the addition of bamboo fibers on the thermophysical properties of the material, while verifying that it complies with the mechanical standards in cameroon. A double study is therefore carried out: a mechanical characterization whose objective is to determine the mechanical properties (compressive strength, flexural strength and Young’s modulus) and a thermophysical characterization whose objective is to determine the thermal conductivity. For the thermophysical characterization, the asymmetric hot plane experimental setup based on 1D quadrupole modelling was developed and simulated for the estimation of thermal effusivity E and volume heat capacity ρcp. The obtained experimental results show that the apparent thermal conductivity of the developed materials decreases with increasing fibers. Although the reference material (0% fibers) has a much higher conductivity than the ordinary sand block (1.15 Wmp>-1p> Kp>-1p>), the addition of fibers, already at 2%, contributes to decrease this conductivity (0.95 Wmp>-1p> Kp>-1p>). From the point of view of thermal insulation and energy savings, the thermal conductivity results obtained show that the use of these materials with a maximum fibercontent of 6% would be a better thermal insulator than sand block or compressed earth brick. The compressive strength obtained is such that Rc > 0.6 Mpa. All the materials developed meet the design standards when used as infill.

Genotype and agronomic management greatly influence crop growth and grain yield in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). To ensure sustainable production, seeding rate selection is important to maximize efficiency of every plant. Tillering can allow wheat plants to adjust growth relative to plant density and quality of growing conditions. This research sought to determine a method for assessing tillering of wheat cultivars and develop a standardized approach for characterizing cultivar tillering capacity. Nine cultivars with diverse genetic and phenotypic characteristics were seeded in 2017-2018 at prosper, ND using various seeding techniques at differing plant spacing arrangements to evaluate tillering habit and spikes plant-1. cultivars grown at population densities common in grower fields did not express full tillering potential. Spaced-plantings of cultivars promoted cultivar expression of tillering phenotype. The SOFATT (seed only a few, and then thin) method, where average spikes plant-1 was determined from multiple plants sampled from a cultivar grown at spaced-plantings (inter-row and intra-row spacing at 30 ± 12 cm), is recommended to properly assess tillering habits of wheat cultivars. Breeders and researchers can use results from SOFATT evaluations to determine tillering capacity rating for each cultivar based on raw or transformed z-score values for spikes plant-1.

The beneficial effects of exercise have been recognized for many years yet the molecular mechanisms by which exercise show benefits on health are still elusive. A combination of experimental and bioinformatics approaches can be an invaluable tool to increase the cellular understanding of the molecular mechanisms that underlie the aerobic exercise in obese adolescents. Muscle skeletal proteins were separated by 2D-pAGE and changes in protein expression were revealed by ImageMaster 2D platinum analysis software. proteins with expression changes after aerobic exercise were identified by comparison with 2D maps from SWISS-2DpAGE and interactions of proteins were analyzed with STRING and DAVID databases. After aerobic exercise, all participants decreased glucose, insulin, total cholesterol, body mass index and waist circumference. proteomic differential analysis revealed 10 overexpressed proteins after aerobic training, which correspond to carbonic anhydrase III, beta enolase, creatine kinase, ATp synthase beta subunit, aldolase A, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, triosephosphate isomerase, pyruvate kinase, lactate dehydrogenase and adenylate kinase. Exercise increased glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation pathways, which is likely to be regulated by ubiquitin c protein. In conclusion, our analysis suggested that obese adolescents show changes in their body mass index, waist circumference and serum glucose after aerobic exercise through improved protein expression patterns that aid, especially, glucose metabolism and increase the oxidative phosphorylation. The most likely explanation for the observed pattern is that ubiquitin c protein keeps the glycolytic enzymes bound within skeletal muscle, obtaining a non-degradative role in cell signaling.

BAcKGROUND cytoreductive surgery(cRS)with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIpEc)for peritoneal carcinomatosis can be performed in two ways:Open or closed abdominal *** To evaluate the impact of HIpEc method on post-operative and long-term survival *** patients undergoing cRS with HIpEc from 2000-2017 were identified in the United States HIpEc collaborative ***-operative,recurrence,and overall survival outcomes were compared between those who received open vs closed *** Of the 1812 patients undergoing curative-intent cRS and HIpEc,372(21%)patients underwent open HIpEc and 1440(79%)underwent closed *** was no difference in re-operation or severe complications between the two *** HIpEc had higher rates of 90-d readmission while open HIpEc had a higher rate of 90-d *** multi-variable analysis,closed HIpEc technique was not a significant predictor for overall survival(hazards ratio:0.75,95%confidence interval:0.51-1.10,p=0.14)or recurrence-free survival(hazards ratio:1.39,95%confidence interval:1.00-1.93,p=0.05)in the entire *** findings remained consistent in the appendiceal and the colorectal *** In this multi-institutional analysis,the HIpEc method was not independently associated with relevant post-operative or long-term *** technique may be left to the discretion of the operating surgeon.

This study examined the effects of soil and switchgrass variety on sustainability and eco-friendliness of switchgrass-based ethanol production. Using the Agricultural Land Management Alternatives with Numerical Assessment criteria (ALMANAc) model, switchgrass biomass yields were simulated for several scenarios of soils and varieties. The yields were fed to the Integrated Biomass Supply Analysis and Logistics (IBSAL) model to compute energy use and carbon emissions in the biomass supply chain, which then were used to compute Net Energy Value (NEV) and carbon credit Balance (ccB), the indicators of sustainability and eco-friendliness, respectively. The results showed that the values of these indicators increased in the direction of heavier to lighter soils and on the order of north-upland, south-upland, north-lowland, and south-lowland varieties. The values of NEV and ccB increased in the direction of dry to wet year. Gaps among the varieties were smaller in a dry year than in a wet year. From south to north, NEV and ccB decreased for lowland varieties but increased for upland ones. Thus, the differences among the varieties decreased in the direction of lower to higher latitudes. The study demonstrated that the sustainability and eco-friendliness of switchgrass-based ethanol production could be increased with alternative soil and variety options.

Spring Wheat Response to Disease control and Subsurface Drainage Management in the Red River of the North Valley, USA

Increased variability in rainfall events and high production input costs are driving agricultural producers to consider subsurface water management in the flat Red River of the North Valley in Eastern North Dakota and Northwestern Minnesota, USA. Subsurface tile incorporated with water table control structures was utilized from 2009 to 2011 to investigate the response of hard red spring wheat (HRSW) (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Thell.) for yield, disease, and other agronomic characteristics to soil water management. A factorial arrangement of four cultivars, two seed treatments, and two foliar fungicide treatments in a split-plot design with closed and open tile as whole-plots was used. Mean wheat yields averaged across years were not significantly different with closed or open tile treatments. There existed an optimum management practice where plant useable water was not freely drained and analyzing the data with the optimum water management for each year found the optimum water table managed treatment yielded higher with 3812 kg ha-1 compared with limited water table management with 3679 kg ha-1. In 2011, the cultivars Faller and Howard were taller, and Traverse had lower root disease severity. In 2010 and 2011, Howard and Traverse had more leaf disease with open tile compared with closed tile. Across years, there was no difference in root disease, stand, number of spikes, crop height, or yield response to appli-cation of seed treatments with open or closed tile. In 2010, there was a 3.7% yield advantage with application of seed treatment on open tile. Across years, there was no yield response to application of foliar fungicides;however, wheat yield with foliar fungicide was 5% higher than without application in 2010. producers should be using water table control and disease management to maximize HRSW yield. Further research should investigate water table management throughout the season based on weather conditions.
