Dear Editor, Since February 2013, infections with several novel avian- origin influenza viruses have occurred in Taiwan and the Mainland of China. The H7N9 influenza virus has caused 136 human infections with 44 deaths in the first influenza season, and has continued to cause infections during the current influenza season （Li et al., 2014）. As of February 11th, 2014, a total of 331 human infections with 101 deaths in China have been reported （http：//***）. During the outbreak of H7N9 in the Mainland of China, Tai- wan reported the first human infection of avian H6N1 influ- enza virus, which again hit the public （Shi et al., 2013a; Wei et al., 2013）. In November 2013, the first infection of H10N8 influenza virus was reported by Nanchang Center for Dis- ease Control and Prevention （Chen et al., 2014）.

Herbicides are vital formodern agriculture,but their utility is threatened by genetic or metabolic resistance in weeds,as well as regulatory *** the known herbicide modes of action,7,8-dihydropterin synthase(DHPS),which is involved in folate biosynthesis,is targeted by just one commercial herbicide,asulam.A mimic of the substrate para-aminobenzoic acid,asulam is chemically similar to sulfonamide antibiotics,and although it is still in widespread use,asulam has faced regulatory *** an entire mode of action represented by just one commercial agrochemical,we sought to improve the understanding of its plant *** we solve a 2.3A°resolution crystal structure for Arabidopsis thaliana DHPS that is conjoined to 6-hydroxymethyl-7,8-dihydropterin pyrophosphokinase(HPPK),and we reveal a strong structural conservation with bacterial counterparts at the sulfonamide-bindingpocket of *** demonstrate that asulamand the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole have herbicidal as well as antibacterial activity,andwe explore the structural basis of their potency by modeling these compounds in mitochondrial HPPK/*** findings suggest limited opportunity for the rational design of plant selectivity fromasulamand indicate that pharmacokinetic or delivery differences between plants andmicrobesmight be the bestways to safeguard thismode of action.

We present the first search for pulsed CH maser emission potentially stimulated by PSR J1644-4559,conducted using the ultra-wide-bandwidth low-frequency receiver on Murriyang,CSIRO's Parkes Radio *** targeted three CHΛ-doublet transitions at 3264,3335,and 3349 MHz,with a variability timescale of78 *** detected ten CH emission features at 3335 and 3349 MHz,and seven features at 3264 MHz,during both pulsar-ON and pulsar-OFF *** observed velocities align with the OH emission and absorption reported by a previous study,suggesting a close spatial association between CH and OH *** derived column densities for CH clouds within the Parkes beam range from 0.05 to 9.8×1013cm-2,indicating that these clouds are likely in diffuse and translucent *** limits for CH column densities within the pulsar beam ranged from 0.3 to 9.8×*** of these column densities suggests that CH clouds may exhibit clumpiness and *** significant stimulated emission feature was detected in the optical depth ***,as part of our search for pulsed stimulated emission,we investigated the potential CH absorption of the pulsar signal and found none,in agreement with astrophysical *** upper limits for the potential maser amplification factors towards PSR J1644-4559 at 3264,3335,and 3349 MHz are 1.014,1.009,and 1.009,*** study demonstrates the feasibility of detecting pulsed CH maser emission in the interstellar medium stimulated by pulsar photons.

Swept laser interferometry is an extremely powerful solution embedded in several recent technologies such as absolute distance measurement,light detection and ranging (LiDAR),optical frequency domain reflectometry,optical coherence tomography,microresonator characterization,and gas *** in the optical frequency sweeping of tunable lasers is a fatal drawback in gaining the expected outcome from these ***,we introduce an on-chip,millimeter-scale,7 m spiral resonator that is made of ultralow-loss Si3N4to act as a frequency ruler for correction of the tunable lasers sweeping *** sharp 2 MHz frequency lines of the 8.5×107high-quality factor resonator and the narrow-spaced 25.566 MHz frequency ticks of the 7 m spiral allow unprecedented precision for an on-chip solution to correct the laser sweeping *** measurements of the ruler’s frequency spacing,linewidth,and temperature and wavelength sensitivities of the frequency ticks are performed here to demonstrate the quality of the frequency *** addition,the spiral resonator is implemented in an frequency-modulated continuous-wave LiDAR experiment to demonstrate a potential application of the proposed on-chip frequency ruler.

秘鲁位于南美洲西岸,作为安第斯成矿带的重要组成部分,矿产资源丰富,铜矿资源储量和产量位居世界第二。本文首次对秘鲁开展全国范围全球尺度地球化学调查工作,获得汇水域沉积物样品共416件,秘鲁全境铜元素含量为2.38~495μg/g,背景值(中位数)为24.0μg/g。秘鲁全境、沿海带、安第斯山区和亚马孙平原的表层(深层)汇水域沉积物中铜元素平均含量依次为31.4(31.6)、45.6(32.2)、47.5(48.2)和21.3μg/g(24.9μg/g)。地球化学图显示,秘鲁铜空间分布整体呈现出西高东低的趋势,西部沿海带和中部安第斯山区含量较高,东部亚马孙平原区含量较低的特征。本文选用75%累积频率作为异常下限值,圈定出5处铜地球化学异常,其中两处达到地球化学巨省规模,两处达到地球化学域规模。同时,讨论铜地球化学异常的来源和影响因素,解析与之对应的矿产资源响应,秘鲁良好的构造演化环境,为大型、超大型铜矿床的形成提供有利条件。太平洋纳斯卡板块向南美大陆不断俯冲变换,致使洋壳发生部分熔融,产生强烈而广泛的中酸性岩浆活动,且岩浆中铜含量大规模富集,局部地区在特定环境下富集成矿。这一构造运动导致铜元素在秘鲁空间分布上呈现出多个地球化学块体,可能也是铜地球化学异常形成的原因之一。这些巨大的地球化学块体发现可用于未来寻找铜矿集区或大型、超大型铜矿床,圈定找矿远景区,并可以降低找矿风险,提高找矿效率,缩短找矿周期。研究圈定的地球化学找矿远景区,可为秘鲁铜矿勘查开发利用提供基础资料和数据。

The Impact of Tornadoes and Damaging Winds on County-Level Income Growth in the United States

This study investigated the economic impact of tornadoes and damaging winds on county-level income growth in the United States from 1969 to 2023. Using a fi xed eff ect regression methodology, the analysis showed that an average damaging storm and an average tornado reduced income growth in the aff ected counties by 0.16–0.23% and 0.21–0.23%, respectively, translating into a one-time growth loss of approximately USD 5.6 million and USD 6.3 million. The fi ndings also indicate that tornadoes have a 20% greater economic impact than damaging winds. This study underscored the unique challenges posed by tornadoes and damaging winds, which are characterized by their unpredictable nature and concentrated but extreme damage.
