An alternative approach for sustainable sheep meat production:implications for food security

Background:A pelleted diet containing camelina hay(CAMH)or camelina meal(CAMM)as a supplement along with a control pellet(CONT)diet formulated with commonly available feeds during summer was used to investigate an alternative pathway for sustainable meat *** meat production was based on a simple estimation of income from meat produced versus feed costs if animals were fed for an extended period over summer compared to early slaughter at the beginning of *** maternal composite wether lambs(Composite)based on Coopworth genetics and 80 pure Merino wether yearlings were divided into 10 groups within breed(n=8)using stratified randomisation based on *** 1 week of adaptation to experimental diets,animals were fed experimental diets for up to10 ***:Animals were slaughtered after either 8,9 or 10 weeks of full feeding when the average liveweight of diet/genetic combination reached a weight appropriate for either‘heavy lamb’or‘heavy hogget’production,which occurred between 8 and 10 weeks of full *** was no diet×breed interactions except for dressing percentage(DP),where Composite lambs fed the CAMH diet had the greatest DP(48.1±0.35)and the Merino yearlings fed the CAMM diet the lowest DP(45.8±0.33).Composite lambs gained 17.6–20.3 kg and Merino yearlings gained 10.7–12.9 kg *** on their DP,this resulted in the production of approximately 8.3–9.5 kg additional carcass weight in Composites and 4.9–5.7 kg in Merinos,which in turn produced greater profit per Composite lamb and a small profit per Merino ***:Composite lambs fed CAMM and CAMH had 5%greater carcass weights at slaughter compared to the CONT group,but dietary treatments did not change carcass weight of Merino yearlings at *** extended feeding approach offered the producer an estimated economic gain of AUD$20.00 to$25.00 when yearly average prices were used(Method 1)and AUD$40.00 to$47.70 when pre-and post-summer

Severe forms of pancreatitis account for 15-20%of acute pancreatitis cases,with a mortality rate approaching 20%(1,2).Patients with this condition manifest components of multisystem organ failure,rapid decompensation,and life-threatening complications arising both early and late in the disease *** clinical decline can be difficult to predict,and treatments are typically supportive and reactive,rather than preventative(3).These factors pose complex challenges during treatment,which has evolved over the past decade and requires a team approach to management.

Beta Gyres in Global Analysis Fields

A three-component decomposition is applied to global analysis data to show the existence of a beta gyre, which causes Tropical Cyclone （TC） to drift from a large-scale environmental steering current. Analyses from the Global Data Assimilation and Prediction System （GDAPS） of the Korea Meteorological Adminis- tration （KMA）, the Global Forecast System （GFS） of NCEP, and the Navy Operational Global Atmospheric Prediction System （NOGAPS） are used in this study. The structure of the beta gyre obtained in our analyses is in good agreement with the theoretical structure, with a cyclonic circulation to the southwest of the TC center, an anticyclonic circulation to the northeast, and a ventilation flow directed northwestward near the center. The circulation of the beta gyre is strongest at the 850-hPa level where the cyclonically swirling primary circulation is strongest, and decreases with height, in a pyramid shape similar to the primary circulation. The individual structure of the beta gyre is case- and model-dependent. At a certain analysis time, one model may clearly reveal a well-defined beta gyre, but the other models may not. Within one model, the beta gyre may be well defined at some analysis times, but not at other times. The structure of the beta gyre in the analysis field is determined by the nature of the vortex initialization scheme and the model behavior during the 6-h forecast in the operational data assimilation cycle.

Parallel Kinematic Machines(PKMs)are being widely used for precise applications to achieve complex motions and variable poses for the end effector *** are found in medical,assembly and manufacturing industries where accuracy is *** is often desired to have a compact and simple architecture for the robotic *** this paper,the kinematic and dynamic analysis of a novel 3-PRUS(P:prismatic joint,R:revolute joint,U:universal joint,S:spherical joint)parallel manipulator with a mobile platform having 6 Degree of Freedom(Do F)is *** kinematic equations for the proposed spatial parallel mechanism are formulated using the Modified Denavit-Hartenberg(DH)technique considering both active and passive *** kinematic equations are used to derive the Jacobian matrix of the mechanism to identify the singular points within the workspace.A Jacobian based sti ness analysis is done to understand the variations in sti ness for different poses of the mobile platform and further,it is used to decide trajectories for the end effector within the singularity free *** analytical model of the robot dynamics is presented using the Euler-lagrangian approach with lagrangian multipliers to include the system *** gravity and inertial forces of all links are considered in the mathematical *** analytical results of the dynamic model are compared with ADAMS simulation results for a pre-defined trajectory of the end effector.

Aged Vacuum Packaged lamb Cuts Are less Brown than Fresh Muscle Cuts under Simulated Retail Display

Fifty four, seven month old lambs, that had grazed perennial or annual pasture, were slaughtered and at 24 h post mortem m. longissimus lumborum samples were collected. Half of the fresh muscle section was sliced into three pieces and overwrapped with 15 micron polyvinyl chloride film and displayed under light (lux = 1500) at 3℃ - 4℃. The remainder of the muscle section was vacuum packaged and aged for 4 weeks at 3℃, before slicing and display. Surface brownness and redness were measured over 3 days of simulated retail display. Aging in vacuum packs led to substantially less brownness and greater redness compared with fresh meat, over the entire three days of display. It was concluded that aging in vacuum packs could be a useful strategy for improving consumer acceptability of retail lamb in local markets, even where there is no logistical or transport need to extend the life of the meat.

Enzymatic recovery of glycopeptides from different industrial grades edible bird’s nest and its by-products:nutrient,probiotic and antioxidant activities,and physicochemical characteristics

This study was conducted to recover edible bird’s nest(EBN)hydrolysates from different grades of EBN,including the industrial by-products,using enzymatic *** nutrient,physicochemical properties and antioxidant activities of the recovered hydrolysates at different hydrolysis times were *** showed that the recovery yield of enzymatic hydrolysis was above 89%for all grades of EBN and the degree of hydrolysis increased over *** content(0.321-0.433 mg/l)was below the permissible tolerance level for all ***,the antioxidant activities(DPPH and ABTS scavenging activities and ferric reducing antioxidant powder(FRAP)activity)were significantly higher(P≤0.05)in hydrolysates recovered from EBN by-products(EBNhC and EBNhD)as compared to the high grade EBN hydrolysates(EBNhA and EBNhB).The in-vitro probiotic activity of EBN and its hydrolysates were examined using the probiotic bacterium lactobacillus ***,EBN by-products hydrolysate(EBNhD)recorded the highest number of ***(1.1×1011 CFU/ml),indicating that low grade EBN has the potential as prebiotic material that promotes probiotic *** study demonstrated the concept of using EBN by-products hydrolysates for various applications,such as functional ingredients with enhanced bioactivities,to improve its economic value.

Temporal changes in inflammatory mitochondria-enriched microRNAs following traumatic brain injury and effects of miR-146a nanoparticle delivery

MicroRNAs(miRNAs)are small non-coding RNA molecules that regulate post-transcriptional gene expression and contribute to all aspects of cellular *** previously reported that the activities of several mitochondria-enriched miRNAs regulating inflammation(i.e.,miR-142-3p,miR-142-5p,and miR-146a)are altered in the hippocampus at 3–12 hours following a severe traumatic brain *** the present study,we investigated the temporal expression profile of these inflammatory miRNAs in mitochondria and cytosol fractions at more chronic post-injury times following severe controlled cortical impact injury in *** addition,several inflammatory genes were analyzed in the cytosol *** analysis showed that while elevated levels were observed in cytoplasm,the mitochondria-enriched miRNAs,miR-142-3p and miR-142-5p continued to be significantly reduced in mitochondria from injured hippocampi for at least 3 days and returned to near normal levels at 7 days *** not statistically significant,miR-146a also remained at reduced levels for up to 3 days following controlled cortical impact injury,and recovered by 7 *** contrast,miRNAs that are not enriched in mitochondria,including miR-124a,miR-150,miR-19b,miR-155,and miR-223 were either increased or demonstrated no change in their levels in mitochondrial fractions for 7 *** one exception was that miR-223 levels were reduced in mitochondria at 1 day following *** major alterations were observed in sham operated *** temporal pattern was unique to mitochondria-enriched miRNAs and correlated with injury-induced changes in mitochondrial bioenergetics as well as expression levels of several inflammatory *** observations suggested a potential compartmental re-distribution of the mitochondria-enriched inflammatory miRNAs and may reflect an intracellular mechanism by which specific miRNAs regulate injury-induced inflammatory *** test this,we utilized a novel peptide-based

Non-linear materials are cornerstones of modern optics and *** dependence on the intrinsic properties of particular materials,however,inhibits the at-will extension of demanding non-linear effects,especially those second-order ones,to widely adopted centrosymmetric materials(for example,silicon) and te chnologically important burgeoning spectral domains(for example,terahertz frequencies).Here we introduce a universal route to efficient non-linear responses enabled by exciting non-linear Thomson scattering,a fundamental process in electrodynamics that was known to occur only in relativistic electrons in metamaterial composed of linear *** a mechanism modulates the trajectory of charges,either intrinsically or extrinsically provided in solids,at twice the driving frequency,allowing second-harmonic generation at terahertz frequencies on crystalline silicon with extremely large non-linear susceptibility in our proof-of-concept *** offering a substantially material-and frequency-independent platform,our approach opens new possibilities in the fields of on-demand non-linear optics,terahertz sources,strong field light-solid interactions and integrated photonic circuits.
