Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation: Effects on Motor and Non-Motor Symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease

Introduction: In the last thirty years, brain neuromodulation techniques have been used as an alternative to pharmacological treatment of neurological disorders. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder leading to bradykinesia, rest tremor, postural changes, and non-motor symptoms such as depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, pain, and cognitive decline that compromises executive functions (EFs), responsible for the orderly execution of behaviors and tasks of daily life and intentional and directed actions. To this date, a few studies with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) have shown beneficial effects in PD patients concerning specific motor and non-motor symptoms, targeting the motor cortex and/or prefrontal regions. Objective: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of left prefrontal tDCS across a broad spectrum of motor and non-motor symptoms of PD using established validated scales. Method: Single-blind randomized clinical trial with 18 volunteers with PD, aged between 45 and 80 years (66.1 ± 9.65), who met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Participants were submitted to assessments of motor and non-motor functions employing psychometric scales and tests to evaluate EFs and were randomly divided into two groups: control (sham stimulation) and experimental (active stimulation). All participants were involved in three separate tDCS sessions. The anode was positioned over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the cathode over the right supraorbital region, with a direct current intensity of 2 mA, lasting 20 minutes. At the end of the three sessions, all participants were reassessed. Results: Significant effects of tDCS on non-motor functions were observed for cognition (verbal fluency of actions, clock copy test, appointment by visual confrontation, and verbal memory with immediate free recall) and subjective assessment of sleep quality (overall restlessness and discomfort in the arms and legs at night, leg

Introduction In Brazil,approximately 5%are born with a congenital disorder,potentially fatal without *** study aims to evaluate the relationship between gastrointestinal congenital malformation(GICM)mortality,health indicators,and socioeconomic factors in *** GICM admissions(Q39-Q45)between 2012 and 2019 were collected using national *** demographics,socioeconomic factors,clinical management,outcomes,and the healthcare workforce density were also accounted *** Surgical Workforce density and the number of neonatal intensive care units in a region were extracted from national datasets and combined to create a clinical index termed'NeoSurg'.Socioeconomic variables were combined to create a socioeconomic index termed SocEcon'.Simple linear regression was used to investigate if the temporal changes of both indexes were *** correlation between mortality and the different indicators in Brazil was evaluated using Pearson's correlation *** Over 8 years,Brazil recorded 12804 GICM *** Southeast led with 6147 cases,followed by the Northeast(2660),South(1727),North(1427),and Midwest(843).The North and Northeast reported the highest mortality,lowest NeoSurg,and SocEcon Index ***,mortality rates declined across regions from 7.7%(2012)to 3.9%(2019),a 51.7%*** North and Midwest experienced the most substantial reductions,at 63%and 75%,*** significantly correlated with the indexes in nearly all regions(p<0.05).Conclusion Our study highlights the correlation between social determinants of health and GICM mortality in Brazil,using two novel indexes in the pediatric *** findings provide an opportunity to rethink and discuss new indicators that could enhance our understanding of our country and could lead to the development of necessary solutions to tackle existing challenges in Brazil and globally.

Surgical risk for patients with Chagasic achalasia and its correlation with the degree of esophageai dilation

AIM： To analyze the risk of cardiovascular complications in patients with indication for surgical treatment of Chagasic esophageal achalasia and to correlate the surgical risks with the degree of esophageal dilation, thereby proposing a risk scale index. METHODS： One hundred and twenty-four patients with Chagasic esophageal achalasia, who received surgical treatment at the Hospital das Clinicas of the Federal University of Goiás, were included in this study. The patients were mostly related to the postoperative complications due to the cardiovascular system. All the patients were submitted to：（1） clinical history to define the cardiac functional class （New York Heart Association）; （2） conventional 12-lead electrocardiogram at rest; and （3） contrast imaging of the esophagus to determine esophageal dilatation according to Rezende＇s classification of Chagasic megaesophagus. RESULTS： An assessment of the functional classification （FC） of heart failure during the preoperative period determined that 67 patients （54.03%） were assigned functional class Ⅰ （FC Ⅰ）, 46 patients （37.09%） were assigned functional class Ⅱ （FC Ⅱ）, and 11 patients （8.87%） were assigned functional class Ⅲ （FC Ⅲ）. None of the patients were assigned to functional class Ⅳ （FC Ⅳ）. There was a positive correlation between the functional class and the postoperative complications （FC Ⅰ×FC Ⅱ： P〈0.001; FC Ⅰ×FC Ⅲ： P〈0.001）. The ECG was normal in 44 patients （35.48%） and presented abnormalities in 80 patients （64.52%）. There was a significant statistical correlation between abnormal ECG （arrhythmias and primary change in ventricular repolarization） and postoperative complications （P〈0.001）. With regard to the classification of the Chagasic esophageal achalasia, the following distribution was observed： group Ⅱ, 53 patients （42.74%）; group Ⅲ, 37 patients （29.83%）; and group Ⅳ, 34 patients （27.41%）. 目前,人们对猪圆环病毒2型(porcine circovirus 2,PCV2)引起的猪圆环病毒病(porcine circovirus diseases,PCVDs)的认识是,该病包括PCV2的亚临床感染(porcine circovirus 2 subclinical infection,PCV2-SI)、全身性疾病(PCV2 systemic diseases,PCV2-SD)和繁殖障碍(PCV2 reproductive diseases,PCV2-RD)以及猪皮炎肾病综合征(porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome,PDNS)。多年来,确诊这些疾病的诊断标准没有变,因此,由临床症状、病变和病变组织中病毒的检测组成的三要素仍然是PCV2-SD和PCV2-RD确诊的标志。相比之下,正常情况下不对PCV2-SI进行诊断,因为这种疾病被默认通过接种疫苗就能得到控制。PDNS可以通过大体病变和组织病理学检查进行诊断,检测PCV2被认为不是该病的诊断标准。在过去十年中,分子生物学方法作为PCVDs诊断的替代方法已得到广泛使用,不过这些技术被视为监测工具,而不是诊断工具。多年来,PCV2的流行病学发生了很大的变化,由于大规模接种疫苗,猪群的感染压下降,猪群的整体免疫力降低。因此,近来来对PCVDs诊断的需求有所增加,尤其是接种疫苗后仍出现PCV2-SD症状的病例。本综述的目的是更新有关PCVDs诊断标准,并在PCV2感染的不同流行病学情况下,将分子生物学方法应用于这些疾病的整体诊断中。

An alternative practical design method for structures with viscoelastic dampers

Viscoelastic dampers（VEDs） are one of the most common passive control devices used in new and retrofit building projects which reduce the structure responses and dissipate seismic energy during an *** methods to design this kind of dampers have been proposed based on the desired level of additional damping,eigenvalue assignment,modal strain energy,linear quadratic regulator control theories,and other *** the current engineering practice,the popular method is the one based on the modal strain energy that uses the inter-story lateral stiffness as one of the main variables for damper ***,depending on the configuration of the structure,in some cases the resulting interstory lateral stiffness can be very ***,the dampers size would also be large producing much more damping than that effectively necessary,resulting in an increase of the overall cost of the supplemental damping system and causing excessive stress on the structural elements connected to the *** this paper an alternative practical design method for structures with VEDs is *** method uses the inter-story shear forces as one of the main variables to accomplish the damper design compared to what was done in previous *** time-history analyses were conducted on a 7-story reinforced concrete（RC） structure to check the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed *** on the seismic performance between the structure without dampers and that equipped with VEDs were carried *** is concluded that the proposed method results in a very suitable size of dampers,which are able to improve the performance of the structure at all levels of earthquake ground motions and satisfying the drift requirement prescribed in the codes.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth performance of Litopenaeus vannamei juveniles reared under biofloc and clear-water conditions fed with different inclusion levels of tilapia processing waste silage(TPWS)*** experiment was performed in two individual systems:biofloc(BS)and clear-water systems(CWS).The trial used forty 40 L rectangular plastic bins(twenty per system)in a density of 63 shrimp/m^(2).The juveniles were distributed in a factorial completely randomized experimental *** treatments were based on the percentage of silage inclusion(control or 0,1.5%,3.0%,4.5%and 6.0%of inclusion)in BS or CWS,totalizing ten treatments and four *** was above 80%in all treatments and was not affected by both systems and *** final weight and SGR were statistically influenced by system(P<0.05)but not by the diet;and presented high values in *** inclusion of TPWS in *** diets did not affect shrimp *** addition,shrimp raised in BS demonstrated better growth performance as compared to CWS.

Experimental Study on Split-Ring Resonators with Different Slit Widths

Metamaterial one-dimensional periodic structures are composed of split-ring resonators, which can display electric permittivity and magnetic permeability simultaneously negative, are studied experimentally. In the present study, each resonator is made up of two concentric circular copper rings patterned on a substrate of kapton, with slits diametrically opposite each other and with the line of the splits along the longitudinal direction of the periodic array containing seven split rings evenly spaced. The experiments consist in inserting the metamaterial slab into a square waveguide of side length 6 mm, corresponding to a cutoff frequency of 25 GHz. Transmission bands due to magnetic and electrical responses are identified for slits with aperture widths of 1 mm and 2 mm, centered at 5.67 and 6.12 GHz frequencies, respectively, values well below the 25 GHz frequency cutoff, so characterizing a medium with negative permeability and permittivity.

On the Jebsen-Birkhoff Theorem in a Born-Infeld Type Theory of Gravity

In this paper we work with a special theory of gravity|the Novello-Di Lorenci-Luciane (hereby called NDL theory) which extends the Feynman-Deser standard theoretical-fi eld approach to General Relativity. In the so-called NDL theory, matter interacts universally with gravity in accordance with the Weak Equivalence Principle, while gravitons have a nonlinear self-interaction. Our main aim in this work is to show that, though the NDL theory does not admit a Schwarzschild solution, the Jebsen-Birkhoff theorem is still valid in this framework.
