Structured-illumination reflectance imaging for the evaluation of microorganism contamination in pork: Effects of spectral and imaging features on its prediction performance

Structured-illumination reflectance imaging provides a new means for food quality detection. This original work investigated the capability of Structured-illumination reflectance imaging technique coupled with multivariate chemometrics to evaluate the microbial contamination in pork inoculated with Pseudomonas fluorescens and Brochothrix thermosphacta during storage at different temperatures. The prediction performances based on different spectrum and the textural features of direct component and amplitude component images demodulated from the SIRI pattern images， as well as their data fusion were comprehensively compared. Based on the full wavelength spectrum (420 – 700) nm of amplitude component images， the orthogonal signal correction coupled with support vector machine regression provided the best predictions of the number of Pseudomonas fluorescens and Brochothrix thermosphacta in pork， with the Rp2values of 0.870 and 0.906， respectively. Besides， the prediction models based on the amplitude component or direct component image textural features and the data fusion models using spectrum and textural features from direct component and amplitude component images cannot significantly improve their prediction accuracy. Consequently， structured-illumination reflectance imaging can be further considered as a potential technique for the rapid evaluation of microbial contaminations in pork meat.

Does forest restoration influence soil infiltrability? A case study in the restored woodland of Sierra de ávila(Central Spain)

Infiltration,as a major component of the hydrological cycle,plays an important role in ecosystems,river flooding,and soil ***,this process has been studied on different soils,with different vegetation cover,and under different climate ***,it is still necessary to know how infiltration rates depend on land degradation,vegetation cover,forest management,and forest restoration,since soil infiltration is related to soil hydrological function and hydrological ecosystem *** aim of our study is to analyze the way reforestation and check dam construction have helped to improve soil infiltration rates in comparison with old,degraded land,different soils and vegetation covers in Central ***,three infiltration tests were carried out by means of a simple methacrylate infiltrometer ring,in four sampling plots,for five types of land use:(i) native holm oak forest,(ii) 60-year-old reforested pine wood,(iii) shrubs,(iv) sediment wedges of check dams,and(v) gullies and degraded *** results show much higher infiltration rates in the soil of 60-yearold pine reforestation sites(1198.00 mm·h^(-1)),and in the sediment wedges of check dams(1088.00 mm·h^(-1)),than in those of degraded hillslopes(365.00 mm·h^(-1)) and shrubland(420.80 mm·h^(-1)).The rates were also shown to be close to those from the remaining patches of native holm oak woodland(770.40 mm·h^(-1)).We also found that organic matter,humus and litter depth,and height of vegetation and cover,all improve soil infiltration rates,while slope degree,presence of coarse elements,stoniness,clay content,bulk density,and electric conductivity inhibit the *** was additionally seen that pine reforestation and check dam construction caused degraded land to recover its hydrological conditions to a level that is quite close to that of the ancient oak holm native forest,alongside ameliorating the hydrological cycle in the *** information will be very useful for decisi

Patient Safety in the Use of Mechanical Restraints: Regulatory Compliance among Hospitals in the City of Buenos Aires and Proposal for Its Improvement

Introduction: Mechanical or physical restraint is an exceptional therapeutic resource to immobilize a subject and thus guarantee the safety of the patient and/or third parties in the face of high-risk behaviors, but it entails multiple crossings (bioethical, philosophical, medical, psychological, legal). Framed in the so-called “safety culture” developed by the WHO, based on the Protocol for its implementation of the CABA and attentive to its frequent use in CABA by different hospital services (medical clinic, geriatrics, intensive care and medical guards) we consider it necessary its study in terms of compliance with the risks it entails and its management. Objectives: Identify regulatory compliance with the GCABA Mechanical restraint (MR) Protocol from a patient safety perspective, as well as describe the clinical and medicolegal aspects, and propose the usefulness of a tool for its management and control. Methodology: Observational, descriptive, transversal and prospective work through the analysis of clinical Records with indication of MR using a rubric-type form. 177 cases were analyzed between September-november 2023 from three hospitals of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, statistical parameters were applied and graphs were made. Results: Only 12.99% complied with the Protocol. In the mental health specialized hospital compliance was almost 5 times greater than in the general one, and in the emergency services compliance was 12 times greater than in Inpatient services. We found that the start or end time of MR was not recorded and only 43% described the causes/justifications for the indication (mostly in Emergency and Specialized hospitals), with the MR average time being shorter in Emergency. Conclusions: Only 1.3 out of 10 patients reliably completed the Protocol and it was mostly in the mental health specialized hospital and the emergency services. Single atom Cu-n-C catalysts for the electro-reduction of CO_(2) to CO assessed by rotating ring-disc electrode

The electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR) to controllable chemicals is considered as a promising pathway to store intermittent renewable energy. Herein, a set of catalysts based on copper-nitrogendoped carbon xerogel(Cu-n-C) are successfully developed varying the copper amount and the nature of the copper precursor, for the efficient CO_(2)RR. The electrocatalytic performance of Cu-n-C materials is assessed by a rotating ring-disc electrode(RRDE), technique still rarely explored for CO_(2)RR. For comparison, products are also characterized by online gas chromatography in a H-cell. The as-synthesized Cu-nC catalysts are found to be active and highly CO selective at low overpotentials(from -0.6 to -0.8 V ***) in 0.1 M KHCO_(3), while H_(2) from the competitive water reduction appears at larger overpotentials(-0.9 V vs. RHE). The optimum copper acetate-derived catalyst containing Cu-n_(4) moieties exhibits a CO_(2)-to-CO turnover frequency of 997 h^(-1) at -0.9 V vs. RHE with a H_(2)/CO ratio of 1.8. These results demonstrate that RRDE configuration can be used as a feasible approach for identifying electrolysis products from CO_(2)RR.
