Water-Energy-Food Nexus： Comparative Scenarios and Public Policy Perspectives from Some Latin American Countries Regarding Biogas from Agriculture and Livestock

Latin American and the Caribbean countries have one of the world＇s largest sources of renewable energy. Nonetheless, it estimated that nearly three-quarters of their energy consumption relies on the use of fossil fuels, with most of the countries being net importers, ultimately imposing a marked economic and political dependence on those energy commodities. Therefore, the opportunity lies in a higher utilization of various renewable energy resources, which contribute to the country＇s energy security while promoting significant environmental benefits. This manuscript aimed to provide a comparative analysis of current energy scenarios of six Latin American countries （Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Brazil, Chile and Ecuador） to evaluate their policies, programs and strategies implemented in the search for greater participation of renewable energy, with a special attention to biogas. Given the importance of the water-energy-food nexus that could foment the use of renewable energies under conditions of water scarcity, a qualitative data comparison was accomplished, considering biogas production potential, biogas projects and CO2 emissions.

Comparison of methodologies for generation of future weather data for building thermal energy simulation

In the last decade,building energy simulation( BES)became a central component in building energy systems’ design and optimization. For each building location,BES requires one year of hourly weather data. Most buildings are designed to last50 + years,consequently,the building design phase should include BES with future weather files considering climate *** paper presents a comparative study of two methods to produce future climate hourly data files for BES: Morphing and typical meteorological year of future climate( F-TMY). The study uses data from a high-resolution( 9 km) regional climate atmospheric model simulation of Iberia,spanning 10 years of historical and future hourly data. This study compares both methods by analyzing anomalies in air temperature,and the impact in BES predictions of annual and peak energy consumption for space heating, cooling and ventilation in 4 ***, this study performs a sensitivity analysis of morphing method. The analysis shows that F-TMY is representative of the multi-year simulation for BES applications.A high-quality Morphed TMY weather file has a similar performance compared to F-TMY( average difference: 8% versus 7%). Morphing based on different baseline climates,low-grid resolution and/or outdated climate projections leads to BES average differences of 16%~20%.

At age 5,children with trisomy 21 have roughly 2 years of delayed motor *** aimed to verify if children with trisomy 21(AD)(N=6,7.67±1.51 years)had a similar performance to children with a typical development(TD)(N=37,5.19±0.40 years old),in a playful motor action(to spin on herself until she cannot get more).On average,ADs gave less laps,for less time,spending more time per rotation,but without significant *** the AD,one-third fell and rose to continue to spin;one-third stopped and resumed spinning(with intervals of 2.05±0.86s).Three ADs performed the action counterclockwise and the other three in clockwise *** results support the hypothesis that AD can perform the activity of spinning,with DT(significantly)younger,allowing to AD momentary pauses and conditions for their physical security.

Endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection in the treatment of sporadic nonampullary duodenal adenomatous polyps

Although uncommon, sporadic nonampullary duodenal adenomas have a growing detection due to the widespread of endoscopy. Endoscopic therapy is being increasingly used for these lesions, since surgery, considered the standard treatment, carries significant morbidity and mortality. However, the knowledge about its risks and benefits is limited, which contributes to the current absence of standardized recommendations. This review aims to discuss the efficacy and safety of endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) in the treatment of these lesions. A literature review was performed, using the Pubmed database with the query: "(duodenum or duodenal)(endoscopy or endoscopic) adenoma resection", in the human species and in English. Of the 189 retrieved articles, and after reading their abstracts, 19 were selected due to their scientific interest. The analysis of their references, led to the inclusion of 23 more articles for their relevance in this subject. The increased use of EMR in the duodenum has shown good results with complete resection rates exceeding 80% and low complication risk(delayed bleeding in less than 12% of the procedures). Although rarely used in the duodenum, ESD achieves close to 100% complete resection rates, but is associated with perforation and bleeding risk in up to one third of the cases. Even though literature is insufficient to draw definitive conclusions, studies suggest that EMR and ESD are valid options for the treatment of nonampullary adenomas. Thus, strategies to improve these techniques, and consequently increase the effectiveness and safety of the resection of these lesions, should be developed.

AIM To investigated the real-world effectiveness and safety of various regimens of interferon-free treatments in patients infected with hepatitis C virus(HCV).METHODS We performed an observational study to analyze different antiviral treatments administered to 462 HCV-infected patients, of which 56.7% had liver cirrhosis. HCV RNA after 4 wk of treatment and at 12 wk after treatment sustained virologic response(SVR) as well as serious adverse events(SAEs) was analyzed first for the whole cohort and then separately in patients who met or did not meet the inclusion criteria of a clinical trial(CT-met and CT-unmet, respectively).RESULTS The most frequently prescribed treatment was simeprevir/sofosbuvir(36.4%), followed by sofosbuvir/ledipasvir(24.9%) and ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir(r)/dasabuvir(19.9%). Ribavirin(RBV) was administered in 198 patients(42.9%). SVRs occurred in 437/462 patients(94.6%). The SVRs ranged between 93.3% and 100% for genotypes 1-4. SVRs were achieved in 96.2% patients in the CTmet group vs 91.9% patients in the CT-unmet group(P = 0.049). Undetectable HCV RNA at week 4 occurred in 72.9% of the patients. In the univariate analysis, the factors associated with SVRs were lower liver stiffness, absence of cirrhosis, higher platelet count, higher albumin levels, no RBV dose reduction, undetectable HCV RNA at week 4 and CT-met group. In the multivariate analysis, only albumin was an independent predictor of treatment failure(P = 0.04). Eleven patients(2.4%) developed SAEs; 5.2% and 0.7% of the patients in the CT-unmet and CT-met groups, respectively(P = 0.003).CONCLUSION A high proportion of patients with HCV infection achieved SVRs. For patients who did not meet the CT criteria, treatment regimens must be optimized.

PillCam~ SB3 capsule: Does the increased frame rate eliminate the risk of missing lesions?

Since its emergence in 2000, small bowel capsule endoscopy(SBCE) has assumed a pivotal role as an investigation method for small bowel diseases. The PillCam SB2-ex offers 12 h of battery time, 4 more than the previous version(SB2). Rahman et al recently found that the PillCam SB2-ex has a significantly increased completion rate, although without higher diagnostic yield, compared with the SB2. We would like to discuss these somewhat surprising results and the new potentialities of the PillCam SB3 regarding the diagnostic yield of small bowel studies. PillCam SB3 offers improved image resolution and faster adaptable frame rate over previous versions of SBCE. We recently compared the major duodenal papilla detection rate obtained with PillCam SB3 and SB2 as a surrogate indicator of diagnostic yield in the proximal small bowel. The PillCam SB3 had a significantly higher major duodenal papilla detection rate than the PillCam SB2(42.7% vs 24%, P = 0.015). Thus, the most recent version of the PillCam capsule, SB3, may increase diagnostic yield, particularly in the proximal segments of the small bowel.

This paper address the modeling and experimental damping of a cantilevered beam. Its objectives are to describe the design and the implementation of an experiment to study the dynamics and the experimental identification of the beam’s damping matrix. To perform the procedure an experimental setup was assembled composed by a cantilevered beam an impact hammer and an accelerometer. The dynamic modeling and an experimental modal analysis identification in the frequency domain was applied to obtain the vibrations modes of the beam and a procedure to the identification of the system damping matrix based on genetic algorithms method’s was used do complete the model. The results are quite good and show a good agreement between the real and experimental systems.

Brain Abscess after COVID-19: Case Report

As the COVID-19 pandemic progresses, complications and unusual presentations of the disease have been described. Among them, the involvement of distinct parts of the neuroaxis. We report a rare case of brain abscess in elderly after SARS-Cov-2 infection readmitted in our health unit. Patient was treated with ceftriaxone, metronidazole and vancomycin with good clinical and therapeutic response. The satisfactory conduct of the case was only possible by the involvement of a multiprofessional team, which sought early diagnosis, surgical intervention and adequate duration of treatment.

Patients with diabetes mellitus(DM) frequently develop electrolyte disorders,including *** most important causal factor of chronic hyperkalemia in patients with diabetes is the syndrome of hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism(HH),but other conditions may also ***,as hyperkalemia is related to the blockage of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system(RAAS) and HH is most common among patients with mild to moderate renal insufficiency due to diabetic nephropathy(DN),the proper evaluation and management of these patients is quite *** its obvious relationship with diabetic nephropathy,HH is also related to other microvascular complications,such as DN,particularly the autonomic *** confirm the diagnosis,plasma aldosterone concentration and the levels of renin and cortisol are measured when the RAAS is *** addition,synthetic mineralocorticoid and/or diuretics are used for the treatment of this ***,few studies on the implications of HH in the treatment of patients with DM have been conducted in recent years,and therefore little,if any,progress has been *** comprehensive review highlights the findings regarding the epidemiology,diagnosis,and management recommendations for HH in patients with DM to clarify the diagnosis of this clinical condition,which is often neglected,and to assist in the improvement of patient care.
