The bipartite begomoviruses (Geminiviridae family), which are DNA viruses that replicate in the nucleus of infected cells, encode the nuclear shuttle protein (NSp) to facilitate the translocation of viral DNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm via nuclear pores. This intracellular trafficking of NSp-DNA complexes is accessorized by the NSp-interacting guanosine triphosphatase (NIG) at the cytosolic side. Here, we report the nuclear redistribution of NIG by AtWWpI, a WW domain-containing protein that forms immune nuclear bodies (NBs) against begomoviruses. We demonstrated that AtWWpI relocates NIG from the cytoplasm to the nucleus where it is confined to AtWWp1-NBs, suggesting that the NIG-AtWWp1 interaction may interfere with the NIG pro-viral function associated with its cytosolic localization. Consistent with this assumpti on joss AtWWpI functi on cuased plants more susceptible to begomovirus infection, whereas overexpression of AWWp1 enhaneed plant resistance to begomovirus. Furthermore, we found that a mutant versi on of AtWWpI defective for NB formatio n was noIonger capable of interacti ng with and relocating NIG to the nucleus and lost its immune function against begomovirus. The antiviral function of AtWWp1-NBs, however, could be antagonized by viral infection that induced either the disruption or a decrease in the number of AtWWp1-NBs. Collectively, these results led us to propose that AtWWpI organizes nuclear structures into nuclear foci, which provide intrinsic immunity against begomovirus infection.

In modern volleyball,the middle blocker is regarded as one of the most important players for the tactical organization,because he is frequently requested for both defensive and offensive *** the block action,the coach must always consider the characteristics of the middle blocker,and his intervention should contemplate the ball tempo and the zone where the opposing attack *** purpose of this study is to understand what the movements are that precede the action of the technical gesture of the *** sample consisted of n=4,895 actions representing 30 footages of games from the 1st male volleyball division in the portuguese league from season 2013/*** have analyzed the movements that each middle blocker has performed during the pre-block *** have also recorded the ball tempo on the opposing setter and the zone where the opposing attack *** have established that there is a relationship between the movements performed and the attack zones(p≤0.001),as well as between the movements and the type of setting,in each attack zone(p≤0.001 in all of them).This way,we have determined that the Crossover Step is the most frequent movement,followed by the Drive Step.

Small wastewater treatment plants (WWTp) are frequently located, by necessity, in remote and isolated sites, which increases the difficulty of its energy supply. Some of them are located near the seaside, in environmental sensible zones, and due to tourism activity of these sites, seasonal effects related with population size fluctuation can occur, which can originate certain inefficiencies concerning WWTp design and energy supply. The objective of this paper is to describe a step by step procedure for evaluation of the wind potential of sites that are dependent of in-situ energy generation, as well as, a case study on the utilization of the potential wind energy in Magoito WWTp (5000 p.e.). The employed methodology comprised the collection of one year of in-situ wind data and its validation by comparison with historical data of about 10 years of a nearby anemometric station. The data provided by the two anemometric stations was statistically treated. It allowed the analysis of the results from the two stations are promissory in terms of wind availability and velocity. Finally, it comprised the simulation of the local wind conditions for a considerable larger area in order to find the best site for locating a wind turbine.

Zeta potential is one of the most relevant parameters controlling the rheological behavior of ceramic suspensions. In this work, it was observed that for pH values below the isoelectric point (IEp), the positive value of zeta potential of water suspensions of α-quartz and α-cristobalite, experiences a sudden steep increase with the increase in specific surface area of the powders. For pH values above the IEp, the zeta potential values of crystalline forms of silica (α-quartz and α-cristobalite), get gradually more negative with the increase in pH. Conversely in the case of vitreous silica, for pH values above 6, there occurs a steep change towards more negative values of zeta potential than those presented by quartz and cristobalite. These findings have not yet been accounted for in the DLVO theory but may provide subsidies for better understanding of how to stabilize and destabilize crystalline and vitreous silica water suspensions.

BACKGROUND Esophageal cancer(EC)is associated with a poor prognosis,particularly so in Africa where an alarmingly high mortality to incidence ratio prevails for this *** To provide further understanding of EC in the context of the unique cultural and genetic diversity,and socio-economic challenges faced on the African *** We performed a systematic review of studies from Africa to obtain data on epidemiology,risk factors,management and outcomes of EC.A non-systematic review was used to obtain incidence data from the International Agency for Research on Cancer,and the Cancer in Sub-Saharan *** searched EMBASE,pubMed,Web of Science,and Cochrane Central from inception to March 2019 and reviewed the list of articles *** effects metaanalyses were used to assess heterogeneity between studies and to obtain odds ratio(OR)of the associations between EC and risk factors;and incidence rate ratios for EC between sexes with their respective 95%confidence intervals(CI).RESULTS The incidence of EC is higher in males than females,except in North Africa where it is similar for both *** highest age-standardized rate is from Malawi(30.3 and 19.4 cases/year/100000 population for males and females,respectively)followed by Kenya(28.7 cases/year/100000 population for both sexes).The incidence of EC rises sharply after the age of 40 years and reaches a peak at 75 years ***-analysis shows a strong association with tobacco(OR 3.15,95%CI:2.83-3.50).There was significant heterogeneity between studies on alcohol consumption(OR 2.28,95%CI:1.94-2.65)and on low socioeconomic status(OR 139,95%CI:1.25-1.54)as risk factors,but these could also contribute to increasing the incidence of *** best treatment outcomes were with esophagectomy with survival rates of 76.6%at 3 years,and chemo-radiotherapy with an overall combined survival time of 267.50 *** Africa has high incidence and mortality rates of EC,with preventable and nonmodifiable ris

MM： To investigate whether, under the influence of pol ypectomy, the incidence of adenoma decreases with age.METHODS： Consecutive patients with colonic adenomas identified at index colonoscopy were retrospectively selected if they had undergone three or more complete colonoscopies, at least 24 mo apart. patients who had any first-degree relative with colorectal cancer were excluded. Data regarding number of adenomas at each colonoscopy, their location, size and histological classification were recorded. The monthly incidence density of adenomas after the index examination was estimated for the study population, by using the person-years method. Baseline adenomas were excluded from incidence calculations but their characteristics were correlated with recurrence at follow-up, using the X^42 test.RESULTS： One hundred and fifty-six patients were included （109 male, mean age at index colonoscopy 56.8 ± 10.3 years）, with follow-up that ranged from 48 to 232 mo. No significant correlations were observed between the number, the presence of villous component, or the size of adenomas at index colonoscopy and the presence of adenomas at subsequent colonoscopies （p = 0.49, 0.12 and 0.78, respectively）. The incidence of colonic adenomas was observed to decay from 1.4% person-months at the beginning of the study to values close to 0%, at 12 years after index colonoscopy.CONCLUSION： Our results suggest the sporadic formation of adenomas occurs within a discrete period and that, when these adenomas are removed, all neoplasia-prone clones may be extinguished.

Hyperacusis and stapes surgery:An observation in fifty patients after stapedotomy

Objective:To assess hyperacusis after stapedotomy and its possible influencing *** design:prospective,interventional,and longitudinal ***:A tertiary referral ***:Fifty consecutive patients(35 females,mean age=46.8 years).Intervention:All patients underwent *** validated portuguese version of the“Hyperacusis Questionnaire”(HQ)was administered before and two weeks and one month after ***:No hyperacusis was reported by any patient before *** two weeks after surgery,all patients experienced hyperacusis,with a mean HQ at 16.88±6.54(range 4e25).One month after surgery,hyperacusis had already resolved in most ***,preoperative presentation or surgeon had no influence on HQ scores(p>0.05).patients with previous contralateral stapedotomy showed lower HQ scores(p=0.001).Audiological parameters improvement measured at one month after surgery(pTA,SRT and contralateral SRT)were associated with HQ higher ***:This study confirms that hyperacusis is a common complaint after stapedotomy that usually resolves in one month after *** HQ highest scores were registered among patients with the highest audiological gain after *** suggests that hyperacusis may be a positive prognostic factor for audiological success after stapedotomy.

Surface Modification on Ti-30Ta Alloy for Biomedical Application

Titanium and titanium alloys are currently being used for clinical biomedical applications due to their high strength, corrosion resistance and elastic modulus. The Ti-30Ta alloy has gotten extensive application as the important biomedical materials. The substrate surface of the Ti-30Ta alloy was altered either by chemical or topographical surface modification. The biocompatibility of an implant is closely related to its surface properties. Thus surface modification is one of effective methods for improving the biocompatibility of implants. The development status of biomedical materials has been summarized firstly, the biomedical application. In this study Ti-30Ta alloy surface was investigate as-casting (Group 1) modified with alkaline and heat-treatments in NaOH with 1.5M at 60°C for 24 hrs (Group 2), alkaline and heat-treatments with SBF-coatings by immersion in NaOH and SBFX5 for 24hrs (Group 3), anodization process was performed in an electrolyte solution containing HF (48%) and H2SO4 (98%) with the addition of 5% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) 35V for 40 min (Group 4) and ion beam etching with 1200 eV ions with a beam current of 200 mA for a 3 hrs etch (Group 5). SEM was used to investigate the topography, EDS the chemical composition, and surface energy was evaluate with water contact angle measurement. SEM results show different structure on the surface for each group. EDS spectra identified similarity on Group 1, 4 and 5. The results indicate for group 2 an amorphous sodium tantalate hydrogel layer on the substrate surface and for group 3 the apatite nucleation on substrate surface. The Group 4 shows unorganized and vertically nanotubes and Group 5 shows a little alteration in the topography on the substrate surfaces. Overall the contact angle shows Group 5 the most hydrophobic and Group 4 the most hydrophilic. The study indicates Group 3 and 4 with potential for biomedical application.
