Analysis of the Spectral Line Emissions of the Hydrogen Atom with Paraquantum Logic

In this work we presented a study of the obtaining of the spectral line emissions of the hydrogen atom using equations that are originated from the foundations of the Paraquantum Logic (PQL). Based on a class of logics called Paraconsistent Logics with annotation of two values (PAL2v), PQL performs a logical treatment on signals obtained by measurements on physical quantities which are considered Observable Variables in the physical world. In the process of application of the PQL the obtained values are transformed in Evidence Degrees and represented on a Lattice of four Vertices where special equations transform these degrees into Paraquantum logical states ψ which propagate. This allows creating Paraquantum logical models of physical systems of the real world. Using the paraquantum equations, we investigated the hydrogen atom spectrum and his main series known. We performed a numerical comparative study that applies the Paraquantum Logical Model to calculate the wavelengths values. The values of wavelengths obtained by the Paraquantum Equations are compared by the results found by the Rydberg formula and are verified that the series of the spectral line emissions of the hydrogen atom can be identified with the representative Lattices of the Paraquantum Logic. Through the application of the Paraquantum equations it was found a numeric value relates the layers of Paraquantum model of the Hydrogen atom. This value represents a constant that relates the Lattices that compose the Paraquantum universe, and it was denominated Paraquantum Structure Constant, whose symbol is αψ. The obtained results of the comparison demonstrate that the Paraquantum Logic comes with good possibilities of being the ideal logic to model our physical reality.

The contribution of resources and capabilities to the competitiveness： The case of Port of Sines

The main objective of this paper is to analyse the competitiveness of the main maritime Port sited in Portugal - Port of Sines. This paper is developed under the resource-based view approach. A literature review about the resource-based view is presented with a special highlight on the contribution of organisation owns＇ resources to the competitiveness. With this study we intend to emphasize the applicability of a management theory to a different type of organisation which only recently starts to be preoccupied with its competitiveness. A case study methodology is used in order to collect all information needed about its main resources and capabilities of Port and also its competitiveness. The resources analysed in this paper are： The infrastructures, the accessibilities, the Port operations and also the information systems used on it. Also, a set of performance data is analysed as the main indicators of competitiveness. After that, a conceptual model is presented in order to systematise the main resources and capabilities under which the competitiveness of the Port of Sines is built on.

Paraconsistent Differential Calculus(Part II):Second-Order Paraconsistent Derivative

The Paraconsistent Logic (PL) is a non-classical logic and its main property is to present tolerance for contradiction in its fundamentals without the invalidation of the conclusions. In this paper, we use the PL in its annotated form, denominated Paraconsistent Annotated Logic with annotation of two values-PAL2v. This type of paraconsistent logic has an associated lattice that allows the development of a Paraconsistent Differential Calculus based on fundamentals and equations obtained by geometric interpretations. In this paper (Part II), it is presented a continuation of the first article (Part I) where the Paraconsistent Differential Calculus is given emphasis on the second-order Paraconsistent Derivative. We present some examples applying Paraconsistent Derivatives at functions of first and second-order with the concepts of Paraconsistent Mathematics.

Smoothing GNSS Time Series with Asymmetric Simple Moving Averages

There is an increasing trend to apply GNSS continuous observation of short baselines to the monitoring of engineering works, such as bridges and dams, for their structural analysis and safety control. In the case of large dams, one important application of the GNSS continuous observation is thc establishment of early warning systems that demand accurate, frequently updated information and where the analysis of the baseline time series, in order to separate signal from noise is mandatory. The paper presents a study on the performance of linear filters of the asymmetric moving average type to smooth baseline time series. The transfer function of the filter is adopted as a smoothing criterion to choose an adequate order for the moving average, in face of the spectral density function of the baseline time series. Onc series of measurements of a short test baseline （325 m）, materialized in the campus of the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering, is used as an example of the proposed strategy.

Nutritional and Health Benefits of Carrots and Their Seed Extracts

Carrot is a root vegetable with carotenoids, flavonoids, polyacetylenes, vitamins, and minerals, all of which possess numerous nutritional and health benefits. Besides lending truth to the old adage that carrots are good for eyes, carotenoids, polyphenols and vitamins present in carrot act as antioxidants, anticarcinogens, and immunoenhancers. Anti-diabetic, cholesterol and cardiovascular disease lowering, anti-hypertensive, hepatoprotective, renoprotective, and wound healing benefits of carrot have also been reported. The cardio- and hepatoprotective, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effects of carrot seed extracts are also noteworthy. All are discussed in this review article.

Analysis of Physical Systems with Paraconsistent Annotated Logic: Introducing the Paraquantum Gamma Factor γ_(ψ)

In this paper we use a non-classical logic called ParaQuantum Logic (PQL) which is based on the foundations of the Paraconsistent Annotated logic with annotation of two values (PAL2v). The formalizations of the PQL concepts, which is represented by a lattice with four vertices, leads us to consider Paraquantum logical states ψ which are propagated by means of variations of the evidence Degrees extracted from measurements performed on the Observable Variables of the physical world. In this work we introduce the Paraquantum Gamma Factor γPψ which is an expansion factor on the PQL lattice that act in the physical world and is correlated with the Paraquantum Factor of quantization hψ whose value is associated with a special logical state on the lattice which is identified with the Planck constant h. Our studies show that the behavior of the Paraquantum Gamma Factor γPψ, at the time of reading the evidence Degrees through measurements of the Observable Variables in the physical world, is identical to that one of the Lorentz Factor γ used in the relativity theory. In the final part of this paper we present results about studies of expansion and contraction of the Paraquantum Logical Model which correlate the factors γPψ, and γ. By applying these correlation factors, the lattice of the PQL suitable for the universe understudy can be contracted or expanded, allowing the quantization model to cover the several study fields of physics.

An Introductory Study of the Hydrogen Atom with Paraquantum Logic

Paraquantum Logics (PQL) has its origins in the fundamental concepts of the Paraconsistent Annotated Logics (PAL) whose main feature is to be capable of treating contradictory information. Based on a class of logics called Paraconsistent Logics with annotations of two values (PAL2v), PQL performs a logical treatment on signals obtained by measurements on physical quantities which are considered Observable Variables in the physical world. In the process of application of the PQL the obtained values are transformed in Evidence Degrees and represented on a Lattice of four Ver- tices where special equations transform these degrees into Paraquantum logical states ψ which propagate. The propagation of Paraquantum logical states provides us with results which can be interpreted and modeled through phenomena studied in physics. Using the paraquantum equations, we investigate the effects of balancing of Energies and the quantization and transience properties of the Paraquantum Logical Model in real Physical Systems. As a demonstration of the usage of the paraquantum equations we perform a numerical comparative study that applies the PQL to the Bohr’s model to find the energy levels of the Hydrogen atom. It is verified that the values of energy in each level of the Paraquantum logical model of the Hydrogen atom are close to the values found by the conventional way. The results through the Paraquantum Logic allow considering other important properties of the atom, as the forecast of number of electrons in each layer.

Dynamic Capacity Allocation in OTN Networks

A dynamic Optical Transport Network (OTN) has the advantage of being able to adjust the connection capacity on demand in order to respond to variations on traffic patterns or to network failures. This feature has the potential to reduce operational costs and at the same time to optimize networks resources. Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) and Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) are two techniques that when properly combined can be used to provide improved dynamism in OTN networks. These techniques have been previously standardized in the context of Next Generation SDH/SONET networks. VCAT is used to tailor the capacity of network connections according to service requirements, while LCAS can adjust dynamically that capacity in a hitless manner. This paper presents an overview of the application of VCAT/LCAS techniques in the context of OTN. It explains in detail how these techniques can be employed to resize the connection capacity and analyses its use in network protection solutions. Furthermore, a detailed analysis of the time delays associated with different operations is provided and its application to some reference networks is undertaken. The obtained results provide an idea about the time delays of the capacity adjustment processes and define potential scenarios for implementing VCAT/LCAS techniques.

Advances in Transgenic Vegetable and Fruit Breeding

Vegetables and fruits are grown worldwide and play an important role in human diets because they provide vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and phytochemicals. Vegetables and fruits are also associated with improvement of gastrointestinal health, good vision, and reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, chronic diseases such as diabetes, and some forms of cancer. Vegetable and fruit production suffers from many biotic stresses caused by pathogens, pests, and weeds and requires high amounts of plant protection products per hectare. United States vegetables farmers are benefiting from growing transgenic squash cultivars resistant to Zucchini yellow mosaic virus, Watermelon mosaic virus, and Cucumber mosaic virus, which were deregulated and commercialized since 1996. Bt-sweet corn has also proven effective for control of some lepidopteran species and continues to be accepted in the fresh market in the USA, and Bt-fresh-market sweet corn hybrids are released almost every year. Likewise, transgenic Bt-eggplant bred to reduce pesticide use is now grown by farmers in Bangladesh. Transgenic papaya cultivars carrying the coat-protein gene provide effective protection against Papaya ring spot virus elsewhere. The transgenic “Honey Sweet” plum cultivar provides an interesting germplasm source for Plum pox virus control. Enhanced host plant resistance to Xanthomonas campestris pv. musacearum, which causes the devastating banana Xanthomonas wilt in the Great Lakes Region of Africa, was achieved by plant genetic engineering. There are other vegetable and fruit crops in the pipeline that have been genetically modified to enhance their host plant resistance to insects and plant pathogens, to show herbicide tolerance, and to improve features such as slow ripening that extends the shelf-life of the produce.
