Electrochemical Fabrication and Electrocatalytic Properties of Nanostructured mesoporous Platinum microelectrodes

Electrodeposition from a lyotropic liquid crystal template medium was used to produce nanostructured platinum microelectrodes with high specific surface area and high mass transport efficiency. Compared to polished and conventional platinized microelectrodes, well-ordered nanostructured platinum microelectrodes exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic properties for oxygen and ascorbic acid, whilst well-ordered nanostructured platinum microelectrodes offered improved electrocatalytic properties for oxygen reduction compared to disordered nanostructured platinum microelectrodes.

The advancement of direct seawater electrolysis is a significant step towards sustainable hydrogen production,addressing the critical need for renewable energy sources and efficient resource ***,direct seawater electrolysis has to face several challenges posed by the corrosiveness of highly concentrated chloride and the competitive chlorine evolution reaction(ClER).To overcome these issues,we designed a novel NiP_(2)@CoP electrocatalyst on a porous titanium microfiltration(Ti mF)*** obtained bifunctional NiP_(2)@CoP catalyst outperforms the Pt/C and IrO_(2),as evidenced by its low overpotentials of 192 and 425 mV at a current density of 500 mA·cm^(-2) for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)in alkaline seawater(1 m KOH+0.5 m NaCl),***,only 231 and 569 mV overpotentials are required at the current density of 1500 mA·cm^(-2) towards HER and OER in alkaline seawater,*** importantly,no ClER was observed,demonstrating its excellent selectivity to *** selection of porous Ti mF membrane as an electrode substrate further enhances the performance by providing a robust structure that promotes the fast generation and release of gas *** promising outcomes obtained with NiP_(2)@CoP catalysts on Ti mF support,therefore,pave the way for the commercial viability of direct seawater electrolysis technologies at industrial-level current densities.

Liquid desiccant deep dehumidification(LDDD)is an excellent energy-saving technology for low-humidity *** liquids(ILs)are favored as optimal working fluids for LDDD,owing to their low vapor pressure,non-crystallization,and *** combined application of IL desiccant with the bubble column has been proven to effectively improve deep *** present work focuses specifically on the insights into air-liquid transfer processes in bubble column dehumidifier using ionic liquid *** effect of operating parameters on volumetric transfer coefficient is examined based on the experimental ***,the bubble swarms meso-scale flow structure is predicted using computational fluid dynamics coupled with a population balance model(CFD-PBm).Besides,the structure-activity relationship between meso-scale flow structure and transfer performance is *** results indicated a notable phenomenon of bubble aggregation/breakage in the moist air-IL desiccant bubbly deep dehumidification(mA-ILD BDD)system,with a specific interfacial area is basically less than 40 m^(-1).meanwhile,a decrease in solution temperature,correlated with a significant increase in viscosity,leads to larger turbulent eddies and a slower breakage ***,a high transfer potential difference enhances heat and mass transfer coefficients at lower solution temperatures,with the mass transfer coefficient at 4℃ being approximately three times that at 10℃.As the superficial velocity changes,the specific interfacial area and heat and mass transfer coefficients have a positive synergistic effect on volumetric transfer ***,this synergistic effect is reversed with variations in solution *** study aims to clarify the air-liquid transfer mechanism in bubble column dehumidifierusingILdesiccant.

Expression levels of aminopeptidase-N genes in the lightbrown apple moth, Epiphyas postvittana

Five aminopeptidase-N genes （EpAPN1-5） of the tortricid moth Epiphyas postvittana have been isolated from a midgut expressed sequence tag （EST） library. Relative RNA expression of these genes was measured by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction using actin as a reference gene. measurements were made on various tissues of fifth instar larvae, over all stages of the life cycle and under differing dietary conditions： different protein sources and levels, and in presence of trypsin and metalloprotease inhibitors. Gene expression for all five genes was the greatest in midgut tissue, but was also detected in the hindgut, fat body and malpighian tubules. EpAPN4 was consistently the highest expressed, with EpAPN3 at about half that level; EpAPN5 was the least expressed. During larval stages expression was high, generally increasing over the instars, after an early peak as neonates or first instars. Expression in other life stages was much lower. males and females showed differing expression in the pupal and adult stages： female expression was higher in the pupa, this reversed in the adult. Gene expression levels and ratios both changed with diet. A natural apple leaf diet depressed levels. Diets with the most impaired amino acid balance induced the greatest change; generally EpAPN1 increased by the greatest proportion. The addition of proteinase inhibitor also increased gene expression, and it was noteworthy that the trypsin inhibitor addition, which has been shown to double aminopeptidase activity, also doubled levels of gene expression.

The importance of depression and alcohol use in coronary artery bypass graft surgery patients：risk factors for delirium and poorer quality of life

ObjectiveToinvestigate whether depression, anxiety and stress increase the risk for delirium and poor quality of life （QOL） after co-ronary artery bypass （CABG） *** total of 180 CABG patients （mean age of 63.5 ± 10.1 years, 82.2% males） completed baseline and postoperative self-report questionnaires to assess distress and QOL. Incident delirium was diagnosed postoperatively with a structured clinical interview and patients were monitored every day post-operatively for confusion and disturbance in *** Delirium developed in 63 persons （35% of sample）. After adjustment for covariates, delirium was significantly associated with depression [odds ratio （OR）： 1.08; 95% confidence interval （CI）： 1.03-1.13,P = 0.003], anxiety （OR： 1.07; 95% CI： 1.02-1.13,P= 0.01） and stress （OR： 1.05; 95% CI： 1.00-1.09,P= 0.03）. Preoperative depression scores were associated with poorer QOL including bodily pain （β =-0.39,P = 0.013）, vitality （β=-0.32,P = 0.020）, social functioning （β=-0.51,P≤0.001）, emotional role function （β=-0.44,P = 0.003） and general health （β=-0.33,P = 0.038）. Among the covariates, harmful levels of alcohol use was consistently associated with poorer *** Depression and harmful levels of alcohol use were consistently associated with poorer QOL whereas depression, anxiety and stress were associated with delirium risk. These findings point to further research examining depression and harmful levels of alcohol use in coronary heart disease populations undergoing coronary revascularization.

Production and characterization of highly transparent novel magneto-optical Ho_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7) ceramics with anion-deficient fluorite structures

Based on material design idea,we employ a co-precipitation strategy to obtain sinterable Ho_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7) flu-orite particles,successfully leading to novel transparent Ho_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7) ceramics with good optical/magneto-optical *** resulting precipitation precursor is identified to be hydrated basic carbonate upon calcination at the optimum temperature of 1250℃into near-spherical Ho_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7) nanopowder with an average size of~64 nm and unimodal narrow size *** crystal intrinsic oxygen defect in fluorite ceramic generally exists in the form of F+*** best bulk specimen achieved in this work exhibits a high refractive index of~2.1 and a high transparency of~74.4%at 1000 nm comparable with the corresponding defect-free single crystal(~76.4%in theory).In the Ho_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7) structure system,the elec-tronic polarizability of O_(2)-anion generally remains constant around 2.2?3 in the visible region and the corresponding optical basicity is approximately *** developed magneto-optical transparent Ho_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7) ceramic has Verdet constants of-180±3,-157±5,-87±2,-54±2,and-43±2 rad T^(-1) m^(-1) at 515,635,780,980,and 1064 nm,respectively,which are roughly 1.2-fold higher than the commercial TGG crystal.

The impetus for buildings to decarbonize and move towards radical energy and water efficiency is increasingly strong and identified as a priority within the green building *** tiny house movement offers an opportunity to both address the challenges of affordable housing and contribute to residential building *** houses de-emphasize mass consumption and excessive belongings and have potential to address equity issues such as gentrification by providing living spaces to low-income residents in desirable housing *** paper analyzes the Tiny House in my Backyard(THImBY)project,investigating building sustainability concepts through the design-build-occupy process in a three-year-old *** demonstrates energy and water efficiency technologies inside an award-winning small living space(18.5 m^(2)).THImBY was designed to reduce energy and water use by 87 and 82%compared to California residential *** practice,it has reduced site energy by 88%and has emitted 96%fewer carbon emissions than a 2100 square foot California Energy Commission 2016 Title 24 minimally compliant *** discuss the differences between design and performance of energy and water systems,which we find offer important lessons for the further expansion of the tiny house movement and other alternative and micro green housing *** find that optimizing such houses through integration of energy and water saving technologies,home energy management systems,and strong communication between modelers,builders and occupants will be essential to achieving dramatic energy(87%),water(82%),and carbon(96%)savings.

The aqueous rechargeable Zn-ion batteries based on the safe,low cost and environmental benignity aqueous electrolytes are one of the most compelling candidates for large scale energy storage ***,pursuing suitable insertion materials may be a great challenge due to the strong electrostatic interaction between Zn^(^(2+))and cathode ***,a novel NaV_(6)O_(15)/V_(2)O_(5) skin-core heterostructure nanowire is reported via a one-step hydrothermal method and subsequent calcination for high-stable aqueous Zn-ion batteries(ZIBs).The NaV_(6)O_(15)/V_(2)O_(5) cathode delivers high specific capacity of 390 m Ah/g at 0.3 A/g and outstanding cycling stability of 267 m Ah/g at 5 A/g with high capacity retention over 92.3%after 3000 *** superior electrochemical performances are attributed to the synergistic effect of skin-core heterostructured NaV_(6)O_(15)/V_(2)O_(5),in which the sheath of NaV_(6)O_(15) possesses high stability and conductivity,and the V_(2)O_(5) endows high specific ***,the heterojunction structure not only accelerates intercalation kinetics of Zn^(2+)transport but also further consolidates the stability of the layers of V_(2)O_(5) during the cyclic *** work provides a new perspective in developing feasible insertion materials for rechargeable aqueous ZIBs.
