SUMMARY Various case reports of patients with Dandy-Walker variant syndrome mimicking schizophrenia have been published in the last 20 years, suggest!ng that this neurodevelopment disorder should be part of the differential diagnosis for every patient with a first episode of psychosis. In this report, it is presented that a patient who was diagnosed and treated as a paranoid schizophrenic for 20 years and had four bone fractures secondary to ataxic gait impairment, before performing a neuroimaging examination that revealed Dandy-Walker variant syndrome.

ABSTRACT This paper discusses the adoption of Artificial Intelligence-based techniques to estimate seismic damage,not with the goal of replacing existing approaches,but as a mean to improve the precision of empirical *** such,damage data collected in the aftermath of the 1998 Azores earthquake(Portugal)is used to develop a comparative analysis between damage grades obtained resorting to a classic damage formulation and an innovative approach based on Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs).The analysis is carried out on the basis of a vulnerability index computed with a hybrid seismic vulnerability asssment methodology,which is subsequently used as input to both *** results obtained are then compared with real post-earthquake damage observation and critically discussed taking into account the level of adjustment achieved by each ***,a computer routine that uses the ANN as an approximation function is developed and applied to derive a new vulnerability curve *** general terms,the ANN developed in this study allowed to obtain much better approximations than those achieved with the original vulnerability approach,which has revealed to be quite ***,the proposed vulnerability curve expression was found to provide a more accurate damage prediction than the traditional analytical expressions.

We present a comprehensive theoretical study of conventional superconductivity in cubic antiperovskites materials with composition XYZ_(3) where X and Z are metals,and Y is H,B,C,N,o,and *** starting point are electron–phonon calculations for 397 materials performed with density-functional perturbation *** 43%of the materials are dynamically unstable,we discovered 16 compounds close to thermodynamic stability and with T_(c) higher than 5 *** these results to train interpretable machine-learning models,leads us to predict a further 57(thermodynamically unstable)materials with superconducting transition temperatures above 5 K,reaching a maximum of 17.8 K for ***,the models give us an understanding of the mechanism of superconductivity in *** combination of traditional approaches with interpretable machine learning turns out to be a very efficient methodology to study and systematize whole classes of materials and is easily extendable to other families of compounds or physical properties.

Uncovering the uncertainty: Risk factors and clinical relevance of P1 lesions on small bowel capsule endoscopy of anemic patients

AIM To identify risk factors for P1 lesions on small bowel capsule endoscopy(SBCE) and to describe the natural history of anemic patients with such type of *** one hundred patients were consecutively selected for a case-control analysis performed between 37 cases with P1 lesions and 63 controls with negative SBCE. Age, gender, comorbidities and regular medication were collected. Rebleeding, further investigational studies and death were also analyzed during the *** No significant differences on gender, median age or Charlson index were found between groups. Although no differences were found on the use of proton pump inhibitors, acetylsalicylic acid, anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents, the use of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs(NSAID) was associated with a higher risk of P1 lesions(oR = 12.00, 95%CI: 1.38-104.1). From the 87 patients followed at our center, 39 were submitted to additional studies for investigation of iron-deficiency anemia(IDA), and this was significantly more common in those patients with no findings on SBCE(53.7% vs 30.3%, P = 0.033). A total of 29 patients had at least one rebleeding or IDA recurrence episode and 9 patients died of non-anemia related causes but no differences were found between cases and *** P1 lesions are commonly found in patients with IDA submitted to SBCE. The use of NSAID seems to be a risk factor for P1 lesions. The outcomes of patients with P1 lesions do not differ significantly from those with P0 lesions or normal SBCE.

Incorporation of bioactive natural compounds like polyphenols is an attractive approach for enhanced functionalities of *** particular flavonoids have important pharmacological activities,and controlled release systems may be instrumental to realize the full potential of these *** presents interesting attributes for dermal and other biomaterial applications,and studies were carried here to support the development of polyphenol-loaded alginate *** of capillary viscosity indicated that ionic medium is an effective strategy to modulate the polyelectrolyte effect and viscosity properties of *** gelation,considerable differences were observed between alginate gels produced with Ca^2+,Ba^2+,Cu^2+,Fe^2+,Fe^3+and Zn^2+as crosslinkers,especially concerning shrinkage and morphological *** assays with different polyphenols in the presence of alginate-gelling cations pointed to the choice of calcium,barium and zinc as safer ***-based films loaded with epicatechin were prepared and the kinetics of release of the flavonoid *** results with calcium,barium and zinc alginate matrices indicated that the release dynamics is dependent on film thicknesses,but also on the crosslinking metal *** these grounds,an alginate-based system of convenient use was devised,so that flavonoids can be easily loaded at simple point-of-care conditions before dermal *** epicatechin-loaded patch was tested on an ex-vivo skin model and demonstrated capacity to deliver therapeutically relevant concentrations on skin ***,the flavonoid released was not modified and retained full antioxidant *** alginate-based system proposed offers a multifunctional approach for flavonoid controllable delivery and protection of skin injured or under risk.

Heusler compounds attract a great deal of attention from researchers thanks to a wealth of interesting properties,among which is *** we perform an extensive study of the superconducting and elastic properties of the cubic(full-)Heusler family using a mixture of ab initio methods,as well as interpretable and predictive machine-learning *** analyzing the statistical distributions of these properties and comparing them to anti-perovskites,we recognize universal behaviors that should be common to all conventional superconductors while others turn out to be specific to the material *** total,we discover a total of eight hypothetical materials with critical temperatures above 10 K to be compared with the current record of T_(c)=4.7 K in this ***,we expect most of these materials to be highly ductile,making them potential candidates for the manufacture of wires and tapes for superconducting magnets.

Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the fourth most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in both men and women in the United States,with about 142820 new cases and 50830 deaths expected in *** disease(mCRC)remains a challenge for oncologists worldwide due to its potential ***,chemotherapy regimens containing 5-fluorouracil,leucovorin,oxaliplatin and irinotecan combinations are a standard of care in the metastatic ***,biological therapies involving vascular endothelial growth factor and epidermal growth factor receptor pathways,such as bevacizumab and cetuximab,have emerged as good option for improving mCRC patient ***,aflibercept plus standard chemotherapy has also been approved in second line regimen for mCRC *** review will discuss novel biological drugs and their indications for mCRC patients and will bring future perspectives in this regard.

Influence of variables related to soil weathering on the geomechanical performance of tropical soils

This paper presents an experimental and analytical investigation of the influence of variables related to soil weathering on the geomechanical performance of sand-silt mixtures containing lateritic soils,*** weathered tropical soils with the influence of interparticle *** sand-silt mixtures containing different relative proportions between uniform sand and lateritic soil were produced,and geomechanical soil characterization tests were *** on the results,a transition from a primarily coarse-to a fine-grained prevailing soil structure was found to cause considerable impact on the geomechanical performance of these soils,as evidenced by design variables related to soil mineralogy and size distribution ***,fines contents of both individual soil particles and soil aggregations were found to correlate with experimental results,while the relative proportion between sesquioxides(aluminum,and iron oxides),and silica,***-silica ratios(SSR^(-1)),facilitated estimates concerning changes in geomechanical ***,the application of the sandsilt mixtures containing lateritic soil on soil walls reinforced with polymeric strips was also evaluated,further emphasizing the potential advantages of adopting variables related to soil weathering on design guidelines concerning tropical soils.
