Scanning electrochemical microscopy(SECM)and scanning vibrating electrode technique(SVET)were used to investigate the electrochemical behaviour of the top surface of the 2098-T351 alloy welded by friction stir welding(FSW).The SVET technique was efficient in identifying the cathodic and anodic weld *** welding joint(WJ),which comprises the thermomechanically affected zone(TMAZ)and the stir zone(SZ),was cathodic relative to the heated affected zone(HAZ)and the base metal(BM).The reactivities of the welding joint at the advancing side(AS)and the retreating side(RS)were analyzed and compared using SECM technique in the competition mode by monitoring the dissolved oxygen as a redox mediator in 0.005 mol L^-1 NaCl *** RS was more electrochemically active than the AS,and these results were correlated with the microstructural features of the welded alloy.

objectives: To verify the existence of difficulties throughout the course of dentistry clinical practices, identify musculoskeletal pain, and evaluate frequency and intensity of pain/discomfort (if existent) in different regions of the body, experienced by left- handed students in comparison to right-handed students of the odontology courses of the state of Rio Grande do Norte (Northeast Brazil). Methods: A general questionnaire was applied to identify left-handed students in a population of 750 students, enrolled in clinical courses. An adaptation of the Grad-Corllet Diagram and a specific questionnaire on clinical practices were applied to the selected students. Descriptive statistics was utilized to analyze data of the specific questionnaire, and Mann-Whitney statistics, chi-square or Fisher’s Exact tests (with a 5% significance level) were utilized for the Grad-Corllet Diagram, searching for an association be- tween discomfort/pain in different body regions and manual laterality. Results: All students presented higher percentage of pain in the lumbar and neck/cervical re- gions. However, left-handed students presented higher values, with statistical signifi- cance levels of p = 0.041 for lower back, p = 0.002 for neck and p = 0.003 for cervical region. Conclusions: The majority of left-handed students classified “moderate” the difficulty of working with equipment designed for right-handers. There was high frequency of musculoskeletal pain/discomfort, with relevant statistical results for left- handed students regarding intensity. It is suggested that the participating institutions evaluate the adoption of inclusion politics, re-adapt the infrastructure to include equipment designed for left-handers, and finally provide adequate work conditions for all students.

Cognitive Ability in Elderly in a City in Northeastern Brazil: An Analytical Study

To analyze the cognitive ability of elderly people assisted by the Family Health Strategy (FHS) in a northeastern Brazilian city, a cross-sectional, analytical study was conducted with 406 elderly assisted by the FHS in Mossoro-RN, Brazil, from March to May 2014. The data were collected through two validated questionnaires. For the data analysis, the Alpha Cronbach’s, Kruskal-Wallis test, chi-square and Pearson correlation statistical tests were applied. There was a predominance of women (67.98%) in the survey. Among the respondents, 50% had an index of up to 27 points in Pfeffer Instrument, identifying greater degree of dependence in performing instrumental daily activities related to mobility in the community (39.7%) and financial management (57.1%). on Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), 75% of seniors had an index above 27 points, with the scores classification as standard (50.99%), mild (25.12%), moderate (22.66%) and severe (1.23%). Although changes have been identified in cognitive performance and independence of elderly people in some areas, these difficulties do not completely affect the lives and daily activities of the elderly.

objective: We sought to investigate the efficacy of oral dosing in mice with imipramine(7mg/kg/day) via water or in food pellets, and to compare its effects in the paradigms of learned helplessness, locomotion, hedonic state, and anxiety. Methods: Water and food consumption were measured to determine daily imipramine dosage in C57BL/6N mice. Next, baseline scores for o-maze, dark/light box, and sucrose tests were measured. Mice were then subjected to a 4-week treatment of voluntary ingestion of drinking water or food pellets containing imipramine. Lastly, all groups were subjected to novel cage, open field, o-maze, dark/light box, sucrose test, and forced swim test to assess the effects of the treatment. Results: In na?ve mice, imipramine delivered via food, induced a reduction of total floating and increased latency in the forced swim test, i.e., antidepressant-like effects. No other significant effects were found. Dosing with water did not change behavior in the forced swim, sucrose preference test, anxiety, or locomotor paradigms, but increased exploration in the novel cage. Conclusions: Voluntary ingestion is an effective method of chronic dosing with imipramine in na?ve mice. Delivery of imipramine with food pellets elicits antidepressant-like effects in the forced swim test, with no effects on anxiety, locomotion, or preference behaviors. In contrast, no such effects were observed with treatment via drinking water, suggesting that a higher dose may be required. our work argues for a broader use of oral delivery using food-treated pellets, in small rodent models of pre-clinical depression. It may substantially improve animal welfare and overcome potential confounds in translational research, which are frequently associated with adverse chronic invasive pharmacotherapies.

Nutritional Contribution Model of Litterfall for Adjacent Areas According to the Distance of Forest

The goal of this study is to evaluate the drift of litterfall from forest to adjacent areas, validate a method to estimate the drift with water balance, direction and speed of winds and quantify the nutrients of litterfall in nearby area of the forest patch as function of distance. This phenomenon can be considered an ecosystem service to improve soil quality of the agriculture crops around the forests by nutrient input coming from the litterfall. The experiment was installed in adjacent areas of the tropical forest at central region of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The branches, reproductive material and leaves which fell were measured for three years into the forest and adjacents areas. The sampled nets were located on edge and equal distances from the edge. It＇s analyzed and estimated the contribution of the litterfall components to adjacent areas by air. The quantity of litterfall by distance had large variation between adjacent areas. And it was confirmed that model estimated the leaf drift by distance with good precision.

Quality of Drugs Based on Ferrous Sulfate Dispensed in a Basic Health and Commercial Pharmacy in a City in the Amazon Region

Background: For the WHo, anemia is a serious public health problem, with an emphasis on deprivation anemia, which has socioeconomic conditions as determining factors for its development. Among nutritional anemias, the most relevant is iron deficiency, whose main form of prevention and treatment is supplementation with ferrous sulfate dispensed in the public health system, with the need to periodically check whether the drug has the quality required by regulatory health agencies. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the quality of the ferrous sulfate medication, from the same laboratory, and dispensed in a basic health unit (BHU) and a commercial pharmacy (CF). Materials and Methods: An analytical, qualitative and quantitative study of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate (25 mg/mL in 100 mL syrup), carried out on 20 BHU and 10 from CF, both from the same laboratory, but in different batches. Samples were subjected to organoleptic analysis and verification of iron content, pH, volume and density. Data were compared with values recommended by the Brazilian pharmacopoeia 5th edition. Results: Three batches were evaluated: 4659 of from the CF;4574 from the BHU1, and 4576 from the BHU2, stored in accordance with RDC 304/19 of ANVISA. All showed compliance with some organoleptic characteristics;and stable values in pH (3.61 - CF;3.67 - BHU1;3.65 - BHU2), density (1.079 - CF;1.088 - BHU1;1.086 - BHU2) and individual volume (not less than 95% of the declared value). However, it was not possible to detect the odor of herbs;the average volume of batch BHU1 was below the declared value, and the iron content of both BHUs was above the maximum value of pharmacopoeia standards. Conclusion: Samples did not show full compliance with the physical and chemical parameters evaluated, suggesting deviation in the quality of the medication.

BACKGRoUND Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is becoming the most common chronic liver disease worldwide,with significant morbidity associated with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH).Genome-wide association studies demonstrated that the variants rs738409 C/G in the PNPLA3 and rs58542926 C/T in the TM6SF2 genes are determinants of inter-individual and ethnicity-related differences in hepatic fat content and NAFLD *** To investigate PNPLA3 and TM6SF2 genotype frequency and their association with NAFLD development and progression in Brazilian *** This cross-sectional case-control study enrolled 285 individuals from the Gastroenterology and Hepatology clinics at a university hospital in *** case patients(n=148)were confirmed to have NAFLD by the identification of hepatic steatosis on ultrasonography and exclusion of other causes of liver *** to the clinical protocol,patients underwent liver biopsy when at high risk for NASH and/or advanced fibrosis(n=65).Steatohepatitis was confirmed in 54 *** who did not have biopsy indication or NASH on histology were considered to have simple steatosis(n=94).The control group(n=137)was selected among patients that attended the Intestinal Disease clinic and was composed of subjects without abnormalities on abdominal ultrasonography and normal liver biochemical *** individuals underwent PNPLA3 and TM6SF2 genotype *** PNPLA3 CC,CG and GG genotype frequencies were 37%,44%and 19%,respectively,in NAFLD patients and were 58%,31%and 10%in controls(Podel adjusted for gender,age,body mass index and type 2 diabetes mellitus,the G allele increased the chance of NAFLD(oR=1.69,95%CI:1.21-2.36,P=0.002)and NASH(oR=3.50,95%CI:1.84-6.64,Pof NASH was even higher with GG homozygosis(oR=5.53,95%CI:2.04-14.92,P=0.001).No association was found between G allele and the features of metabolic *** histological assessment,PNPLA3 genoty

State’s Technical Cartography and Social Cartography’s Participatory Mapping: Contributions to a Contemporary Reflection on the Use of Maps

The use of cartography in geographical approaches, notably in those focused on territorial discussions, is gaining more and more importance. However, the use of technical maps still prevails, which often act to hinder its use and appropriation by traditional communities. Based on this assumption, this article seeks to show that, in addition to technical cartography, there are other methodologies, which should also be used, in both elaboration and representation of territories, such as the participatory mapping. For that, some recommendations and suggestions are presented in this paper, aiming to subsidize the application and the collaboration of maps, through the mentioned methodology. These suggestions and contributions are the result of both theoretical debates and in loci observations, in workshops held in traditional communities of Brazilian Amazonia. From these discussions, it is concluded that the adoption of participatory mapping in the process of valuing and understanding the knowledge of traditional communities is of great value, in addition to serving as a subsidy for the claims of rights of both appropriation and possession of the territory.
